MX Sports Pro Racing Announces
2013 Women's Pro Motocross Triple Crown

WMX to be Featured at Three Rounds of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship

MORGANTOWN, W. Va.-- MX Sports Pro Racing has announced that professional women's motocross racing will again be featured at the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. WMX racing will be hosted at three select rounds next summer, with the Hangtown Motocross Classic (Sacramento, Calif.), the High Point National (Mt. Morris, Pa.) and Moto-X 338 National (Southwick, Mass.) selected to compose what will be officially known as the Women's Pro Motocross Triple Crown.

"The number of 2013 events featuring women's pro motocross has been reduced from past years due to operational demands associated with both the live events and the television and internet broadcasts for the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship," said Roy Janson, Director of Competition for MX Sports Pro Racing. "This limits the ability to feature women's pro motocross as often as we did during the 2012 season. Even though there will be fewer events featuring women's professional motocross racing, MX Sports is pleased to be able to include the competition at these three great venues."

The Hangtown Motocross Classic, hosted mere minutes from the California State Capitol, serves as the traditional season opening round for Lucas Oil Pro Motocross and will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2013. The season's East Coast debut at the High Point National will follow three weeks later on June 8, 2013, with the third and final leg of the Women's Pro Motocross Triple Crown set to take place on June 29 in the sand at the Moto-X 338 National.

In addition to providing competitive opportunities for pro women riders, the AMA and MX Sports, Inc. also continue to offer a line-up of amateur classes for girls 9-11 years of age, 12-15 years of age, as well as a class for all female riders ages 14 and older as part of the annual Red Bull AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, held at the Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., from July 29 - August 3, in 2013. The Red Bull AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship has been crowning Women's Amateur National Motocross Champions since 1982, the first year of the event.

Entry and race information for the professional women's class events within the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship will be available after January 1, at www.mxsportsproracing.com. The Local and Regional Qualifier Schedule for the Red Bull AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, will be available at the www.mxsports.com website.

This is a joke, i mean the women don't get to do supercross, and even before that, they only did 8 rounds. Now only 3, when these women work as hard if not harder then the guys... i say this is a joke and not looking good for the future of women's motocross. Just my 2 cents.

Probably 1 moto of 3 minutes with 1 30 second practice. A series worth attending? No so much... I apoligize to all the hard working pro woman for the discrimination being leveled at you.

This truly blows, especially if you are like me and have a young daughter that loves to ride and race. I thought the series was only getting better but I guess the writing has been on the wall.

Now that the election is over, I guess the 'war on women' is aimed directly at these racers. AF67 the last champion? The one day national, really sucks.

the women at southwick...this will be better than endurocross!

i guess they could go back to not having them at all at the nationals? I agree it sucks they cant do a full series but look around at the situation pro motocross is in. I have faith that MX Sports is trying everything they can to keep WMX alive with out costing us a relatively decent TV package. I am angry but not at MX Sports. To think this is discrimination is insane... how many other sports has the women/men compete on the same day? does WNBA play right before/after an NBA game? If they have trouble with it there is a series they could run... its called AMA motocross ZERO rules in that rule book that discriminate them from competing.

At least the name, "Triple Crown", is cool. But a 3 round series is much less than they deserve. It does make for a very long day of racing and trying to keep the track somewhat rideable for them, but there has to be a better answer.

Why don't the best women simply work toward qualifying with the men? It's not against the law/rules for them to do so....and some of these top women (especially in Europe) are pretty fast. Other than that, they can compete equally across the amateur ranks with boys/men and work their way up from there. I can understand perhaps a women's class for beginners....but after that, gender shouldn't matter.

I think some of the top chicks should try to qualify and run with the guys.

I think this is not fair and not good for the sport. The women have been increasing in skill and in numbers and are really followed by a lot of people. the gates are much fuller now than just 6 years ago and cost the promoters almost nothing. more and more girls are getting closer to the podium and I think we should all write the AMA and let them know what we think. Why would the ama screw themselfs out of $10,000 in entry fees and 15 times that in money spent for family and friends of the riders ? STUPID STUPID move. heres to yet another thousand people who wont be at each race the women don't race at

How come every time when we try to move forward in this sport, something gets whacked. MX Sports has really dropped the bomb on this one. It's always the same excuse, so we can get a better TV package? 2014, one moto format? Well hope some of these gals do qualify for the men's round, they have the speed.

Does this mean there is only 3 races to their championship? Why not add some other races to the series but not have them at a Pro National. Maybe have them run at other big races such as amateur nationals or large one off races like Mammoth or whatever. It adds to their series and it compliments the triple crown (or vise versa).

And why 3 races spread across the country? It isn't really a series any longer and would be better to just not have it in my opinion.

TanyaRoberts wrote: 9:38pm November 28, 2012

I am so disappointed with this decision. You have not only under cut the girls that have worked so hard for the series as it has been established for 3 years. You have taken away opportunities for all the young girls competing for Loretta's now, and you'll see the number of girls there dwindle again if they have no higher goals to shoot for. It is also a kick in the teeth to the women in the past who put up with much more for much less, it was a consolation that at least someone else was getting a shot that some of my peers didn't have, and some of them were able to continue to ride. Your "plan" lacks foresight, it excludes a whole portion of your fanbase, and it sells short every little girl that just wants to ride while you communicate to them that they aren't even close to important while you negotiate your tv deals. And what of sponsors? Why should a sponsor pick up a chick racing in 3 high profile races a year? That can't compare to your guys getting TV time. BAD DEAL.

MORE of the current riders need to speak out about this and be their own best advocate, instead of being afraid of losing more. You can continue to change the industry, but you can't be complacent and you can't stop working for it. I guess the fight is never over.

This isn't discrimination, that is ridiculous to claim. A very very small percentage of the people watching the Outdoor Nationals are interested in the WMX. I'm sorry to those that are fans of the series but that's the truth. What people do want is better racing and a more condensed program for live TV.

I'm sure some of these girls put in a lot of hard work but that doesn't entitle them to anything. The sport is in a tough spot right now and they need to focus on their core product. You are kidding yourself if you don't think this is in the best interest of the sport for everyone.

What a ridiculous business decision. I guess its not surprising in an industry that continues to promote a circus act like Josh Hill. How exactly did the women's motos in 2012 occurring first and last, impact TV coverage?

Which gals have the speed to qualify for a men's National? Don't the men have to earn the right to try to race a National by placing in select A class races? I wonder if that would apply to the women.

mxguy7 wrote: 12:51pm November 29, 2012

First of all the women need their own class just like tennis, basketball etc.. The WMX class turned out to be the closest battle for the title, even more so than the lites class. The only reason my daughter and I traveled 700 miles to attend the Lake Elsinore race was for her to watch the womens race. Don't get me wrong, I was thrilled to be there for the lites battle but I would have been fine with watching on TV. This is a slap in the face to Ashley, Jessica and Tarah for putting on one heck of a battle.

Being the grandfather to two granddaughters who have made it to Loretta Lynns, I find three WMX motos very disheartening. I understand MX Sports is a business and is there to make profits and Men's Motocross will never grow without TV. To the Japanese manufacturers, as a person actively involved in promoting motocross series, girls/womens has been the only classes that have grown during the past five years. Harley Davidson realizes women motorcyclist are the fastest growing portion of their sales. I sometimes wonder if the Japanese manufacturers understand their markets. They've lost sales to KTM, on every size bike due to better R&D, never heard from on youth lead law lobbying, and now their only growing market just took a step backwards. It would be nice for my 9 & 13 year old granddaughters to have role models to look up too and dream about competing against one day. Time will tell, it might even be better in the long run if women stop playing second fiddle to men's at the Nationals. Go somewhere where they are the main event with real purses.

Didn't quite finish, MX Sports owns WMX and it is their business to see that the WMX has a proper series to ride. MX Sports has completely dropped the ball and failed the WMX...

There are some die hard female MX racers. But I just have to ask what is Harley doing for women motorcyclists and why is this Japansse manufactures fault? Is Harley helping women make it in the world of riding Harleys. Or are they just willing to sell them over priced stuff [junk] too. What is it the Japanese manufacturers are not doing for women. Is it Honda... paying Ashley to race their factory bikes and giving her comercial exposure. How about the fact that the Japanesse brands pay contingincy to the womens class. Is that it. How much does Harley pay women who ride their bikes.

These Ladies are very fast and train hard, but I don't go to a National to see them. It's like going to a Laker game and having to watch an WNBA game at half time. There is not enough demand for them to have a stand alone series. Maybe some day, but not in this economy. I'm not hating on them but it is what it is.

markoktmer wrote: 12:24pm November 30, 2012

This is a slap in the face to the Women Riders and their fans. I've seen them at Southwick and enjoyed their races. They should have been the first motos instead of sticking them with the roughest track of the day, and having to deal with the disrespect of the fans who bail the second a 450 moto is over. The Nationals are not packaged as well for entertainment as a Supercross. A little more effort could have accomodated the Women, filled out the days schedule with nonstop entertainment, and made the events that much better. I have been a moto fan for 40 years and the more racing I see on any given day, the better.
Additionally there are plenty of young girls out their racing at the amatuer level-Are we asking them to work hard, make sacrifices and aspire to a 3 race series when the hit the top of their sport?
This was a bad decision.

PapPap wrote: 6:09pm November 30, 2012

to please dont hate us. because racings bottom line is to sell respective bikes. The manufacturers should be putting the pressure on MX Sports to run a real series.to keep their bike sales from dropping further.

How do you know thay didn't try? What kind of pressure can they put on them anyway. I don't think the guys in Japan have much say about our MX series. What is their leverage point?

Kind of messed up how you guys continue to disrespect the WMX racers, seems like people would embrace the fact that they love this sport and choose to race even when people think they shouldn't!! And what's even crazier is that you will get a hard leg when you see the scantily clad trophy girls/models who don't give two squats about you!!! It's a sad state of affairs when a group of women who potentially can help the sport grow are continually put on the back burner in this sport. And for those who think the WMX racers are boring to watch, you fail to realize that this year they had more intense races that either of the 250 or 450 races..., but no one would really know because no one usually stays to watch them race, because guys still have the notion that women are bad for the sport, which is absolutely not true!!! Maybe they should have their series run by women again as a standalone series, and prove everyone wrong about their growing talent pool!! And the legends of the past too time to increase their speeds and abilities, its called progression!! Much respect to you WMX racers... one day may you all disprove all of the nay sayers!!
