Wake up every morning and say to yourself. Self what would RC or Jeff Stanten do? Then go do that and you will be as good as you can be.
Depends on which rider in particular we are talking about. Each has a different situation.
Some are are still trying to make a name for themselves and get a position on a premier team and earn some money. For them Europe seems to make alot of sense.
Some maybe aren't extremely disciplined about training and have had time off with injury and need to race themselves back into shape in the comfort of their homeland. Australia calling.
Others are sitting on a fat paycheck from a premier team and cashing plenty of checks from endorsements and disciplined in their training efforts and can really use the downtime to recharge and come out at there best when the money is on the line.
So it really depends ...

have to say stay home and train. it would probably be best for most riders, but @Over_the_bars you are right, it depends on the rider
Yeah it's a bit of a difficult question really - I'm sure what's best for Chad Reed, isn't necessarily best for Eli Tomac, which isn't what's best For Bam Bam etc etc. Definitely needs to be treated on a case-by-case basis. The obvious answer is 'whatever will yield the best results for the rider and the team.' I think in this day and age, the riders and teams are in the best position to work out what that is, year on year...
