Thunder Valley 250 Moto 1 Report
Saturday, June 2, 2012 | 5:20 PM250 Moto 1
After experiencing a delay due to inclement weather, the start of the first 250 moto saw Justin Barcia take the holeshot and jump out to an early lead. He would stay there largely unchallenged for the entire moto. Barcia experienced a little pressure from Ken Roczen roughly halfway through the moto, but was able to open the gap back up. Roczen started reeling Barcia in during the closing stages of the moto, but slid out in a turn, giving Barcia all the room he needed to take the moto win.
Blake Baggett was forced to put on a charge after a small crash in the first half of the moto, and ended up finishing in third just behind Roczen. Eli Tomac went down early in the moto as well and put on a charge of his own from quite a ways back that would see him end up in fourth place. Marvin Musquin rounded out the top five.

Called it. I did. ...just sayin...
I bet it doesn't happen in the second moto.
I have a tip to make the MX/SX programs better. Get a new Technical Director. The technical direction is so misguided. I just watched the 250 class at Thunder Valley.. In the waning moments of the moto, we watched Barcia circle the track unchallenged, we watched "the one to watch" Nicoletti meander around without a brake, while Bagget was fighting through the pack late in the moto and challenging Roczen. I was getting that information by listening closely to the TRACK ANNOUNCER! What was the TD doing???
Will you or someone tell the TD to stay on the action even in the last lap. We don't need to see (pick any)
a) another guy starting his bike
b) an unchallenged leader circling the track
c) an interview with a rider who isn't finishing
while elsewhere on the track there is a good battle for the podium going on.
Okay, I feel better now...
PS While I'm complaining, no shot of Stewart going down? Bad TD again.
@Danrad : I couldn't agree more, the coverage on the net left a lot to be desired. The tweets were saying Bagget on Roczen's rear wheel and we got to watch Barcia riding alone for the whole last lap and even into the pits. WTF is that?
I'm picking Baggett for the second moto win. He was flying out there. He needs a much better start and he'll be gone.
DanRad you are right.Race coverage was terriable. It was great watching Baggett move up then they doing everything that you mentioned.
Generally in a live or "live to tape" event like sports or even a talk show, there is a person known as the Technical Director. They tell each camera what to shoot then they make the choices as to which camera to cut to. That is what is sent to the live output or a "live to tape" situation. If it is to tape for later broadcast, they can "fix" it and put in a different camera view if they have it. It's a tough job and a lot is riding on them... but this has been going on for years and it seems that the TD doesn't really understand what fans would like to see.
M 2.5 cents.
OK @ Dan Rad good info, I dont have TV and just got rid of company. So I gotta ketchup. "pun intended"
@mr-mx hey thanks for being an a**hole and posting the overall results in the moto 1 results comments i didnt get to see the second moto yet because it hasnt aired and was looking forward to watching it....maybe some people just wanted to check and see how moto 1 finished because the rain delay took so long my DVR didnt get it
Hey MrMx, reepicherp98 has a point about posting moto 2 scores in the moto 1 thread, although he could have been a bit more civil about it though.
Tomac did the same in moto 2 as he did moto 1 hangtown. Rides as fast as bagget. than pace fades at the end. He is so close to being the complete package. But right now its looking like Bagget got a handle on this.
Metcalfe is lucky Alessi passed him in moto 2. He was not riding fast enough thru the pack. once 800 got by, it got him going.
@DanRad - although i agree the bagget roczen thing is what we should of been watching. However from what I can gather (from pulpmx podcast) is they are trying to give more people a little air time. Therefore more peoples sponsors are plugged, leading to more sponsors being drawn to the sport.
One of the best things that could be done for the pleasure of the viewing audience.....Dan Rad for new NBC Sports Technical director.
Since he no longer does the triples (he can just barely clear the doubles), he has thrown himself into all the advanced moto broadcasting technologies.
If the NBC T.D. had half the talent you demonstrated taking all those fast outside lines at the old Rawhide track, no one would have anything to complain about. (until you missed that shift)
Behind you for now, but knockin on the door.........
Well it was Justins turn this week and called as well. The fact of the matter is i really think BB is in the best shape out off the top four in the 250 class and is fast ,But not the fastest.that belongs to Bam Bam.Justin is the fastest rider out in the class, but justin doesnt train hard off the track at all. the only training he does is on the track witch and does put the time in riding .if Justin spent the time off the track training he would be untouchable .When it comes to moto cross it takes more than just riding .30 minutes and two laps is hell to ride as fast as you can if your not in extreme shape If you look back at R.C ,SW7,RV,BB all had or have one thing in common ,A HARD CORE TRAINER.Its not how you start.!!!!!!! Ya it helps to get a good start.Oh one last thing the T.V coverage and times really blows.
Hey Hen the stop watches say Barcia is like the 4th fastest in the class. If he did not get hole shots he would not even podium.
