Super Spoiler Race Report: Anaheim 2

Sunday, February 5, 2012 | 1:15 AM
In Lites West, Cole Seely and Eli Tomac dueled for the holeshot, but Seely emerged with the lead. The two hooked up and quickly pulled a lead on Marvin Musquin, Nico Izzi and Dean Wilson, until Seely lost his traction with his rear tire on a big sweeper a crashed, handing Tomac the lead. It was set to be a big battle between Seely and Tomac, but instead turned into a Tomac runaway. Seely got up in time to salvage second, while Wilson passed Izzi and went after Musquin. Wilson pushed and pushed but the Frenchman held tough against the Scotsman, enough to hold him off to the finish for the final podium spot. Izzi took a solid fifth.

In the SX class, a great battle seemed set up when Ryan Villopoto and Chad Reed went bumping and banging through the first few turns. Reed grabbed the lead, but Villopoto came back to pass him midway through the first lap. James Stewart was on the move from behind, as he had crashed hard in his heat race and had to qualify with a win in the LCQ. He suffered a bad start with his bad gate pick, but managed to climb to third and then pass Reed. At about the halfway mark, it seemed like Stewart was going to try to challenge Villopoto, but the defending SX Champion was having none of that as he logged unmatchable 55 second laps and pulled away. Later, Reed mounted one last charge on Stewart, but came up short, making the top three Villopoto, Stewart and Reed.

Ryan Dungey suffered a bad start and took fourth, ahead of Justin Brayton, who tussled for the holeshot and ended up fifth.

Look for a full race report later tonight.

Congrats to RV on being the first 2 time winner......good ride by JS to get a second with what was probably a crap gate pick!! This will tighten up the points spread between the top four even more!! Good stuff!!

Profile Picture
whatever wrote: 1:32am February 5, 2012

...actually it wont tighten up the spread from 1st to 4th, it opens it up by one point....but it does move JS closer to second and third.....my bad!

GO RV!!!! JS you would be right there w RV if you would quit doing stupid stuff (heat race) Is this how the season will go ???????????????

Profile Picture
whatever wrote: 1:36am February 5, 2012

It's not so much stupid stuff he's doing, it's pretty impressive really, but he needs to learn when enough of it is enough to achieve the desired results......then he goes out and uses the same move that cost him in the heat to make the pass on Reed in the main....ballsy!!

its hard to make judgements on the crash when we haven't seen it yet. chances are it could have been prevented or maybe it was just a weird incident. we will see tomorrow though. great rides nonetheless. can't say that i'm surprised or glad that RV won, he put in solid laps. I am surprised that Stewart pulled off a second. Bad start or not, I was expecting another crash.

Chillmatic, its a pretty bad crash, took him a little to get up. he had like a 8second lead too.

Whatever, you'r right but man it pisses me off and it is stupid to keep doing that ballsy incrideblly tallanted shit that he should save for when he needs it. NOT when he has a 8 second lead in a heat race. I will hate the day when he crashes himself out of racing but I feel it coming if he doesn't get his shit together.
Most of RV's bad races came from shitty luck, Milsaps taking him out and the race red flagged while he was in the lead. JS has gone down on his own every time so far this year and if he hadn't everyone else would be in trouble. This guy has 9 lifes and he has used up ?????

JS loves to entertain and when he hears the crowd roaring their approval, as on that wheel tap move in his heat race, he just can't control hmself to back away from it despite having an 8 second lead and it being very dangerous. My sense is he won't be with us too much longer as his nine lives have to be about used up.

RV on the other hand is much smarter and only uses what he must to win, not races, but championships, as he wisely showed last week by not pushing the issue in the main. A lack of self control is the differences between the two for sure.

This was the best race of the season to guage the riders speed since they were up front from the start. RV by a bit over JS, JS by smidget over CR, CR by lot over RD. Speed wise it is definately between RV and JS of this there is no doubt. But with JS propensity for crashing it looks like RV is a prohibitive favorite to win it all.

It should have been obvious to all last night that RV has the ability to pull away when he wants and secure a good lead then back it down on the last 3 laps. RD better step it up however he is beginning to look like one of the back markers on that KTM. RV is still and RC knock off but a darn good one I would say.

Hey tracks, get your time keeping together dude JS did not have an 8 second lead in 3 laps. It was 3 seconds but slow or fast James is going to crash out now and then as we all know. So how did JS fair in the main did he best RV by 8 seconds too? Bubba did good after his crash getting second but he is learning there is a new Man in supercross now. So in order to be the Man he has to beat the Man, gum rattling don't get it done. I think it's safe to say Mac's win record is safe for another 10 years.

Js7 rode a really good main. Props to him for a great main. RV1 looked impressive also. Im hoping Reed licks the flu bug and steps up in San Diego.

@Whatever?? Whats so impressive about a guy having a huge lead in a heat race and crashing?? Its not very impressive to me.. He made the main of course, he should. But it has been done a number of times, guys coming through the LCQ, 2 guys do it every week.. Why is it more impressive when Stewert does it??

JS7 Entertainment for sure , funny to listen to RC and Emig give James such high praise , and than your average fan seems to know all the answers, The FMOTP does not allways win the race , but He sure is fun to watch , and well worth the ticket price ,

Most of the fans at Supercross races are there to see a side show , just like Monster Trucks , they have no idea what they are really seeing or know anything about the riders , The real Fans go outdoors !!!!!!

@Preston, So Stewart is the FMOTP?? Really?? He finished last year in 4th place, and is in 4th place now, and couldnt catch RV in 2 races already this year. RV consistantly turns the fastest lap times at every race, including A2, so how is Stewart faster than him??

@joemotocross589, hey you are right, it does look like Wheelsmith Maico gear. He would have looked better in a CZ jersey though!

Has anyone even noticed that the only guys on Kawasakis in the 250 class are the Pro Circuit riders.

is the 250 that bad for privateers?

Profile Picture
rvfan wrote: 5:40pm February 5, 2012

looks like rv is back on a 250, smoken!!!!! js7 is washed up, he can't hang with the boy's anymore on the outdoor moto's cause he can't run riders off the track for the win!!!!!

I noticed there weren't too many Kawis out there in the lites class. Maybe all of their resources are tied up with their factory team, PC and Team Green so theres not much money left for the privateers?

@porcupine

Who cares what color he is, its about how arrogant he is an how ENTITLED he acts. Not a lot of people liked Reed up until last year when he became a privateer and acted a lil humble(sorta) I still don't like Reed. People like giving everyone on the Stewart rollercoaster a hard time because they get so offended, and always say well if he didn't crash.............

Well since Pro Circuit only hires Europeans to ride for them the young American riders are riding other brands in hopes of getting a ride from them. Let the Euro's buy the Kawi's and those pro circuit pipes.

bd200 wrote: 10:03pm February 5, 2012

@Claxton--Bagget, Tickle, Stewie, Carmicheal, all rode or ride for Pro Circut.. All from the USA.

Profile Picture
Not4show wrote: 10:57pm February 5, 2012

But who is on their roster now?

I really don't care where they hire the riders from. If they are the best in the world thats all i care about seeing. I kinda think its good that they do hire from outside the US. That way it helps spread how much better the riders in the US are when everyone comes here to race.

Then again I'm sure the money has alot to do with if they come here or go to Europe.

yeah , that Bob Hannah , who does he think he is , Talking smack all the time , he is so arrogant , and thinks he can run people off the track , no respect for the other riders , allways playing head games with the riders , and giving his mechanics a hard time , He will soon be a has been , and no one will remember him. Point is , most of you posters , have no clue , as to what goes on behind the scenes of pro racing , Js7 , third most winningist rider of all time , yeah , he is washed up , cant hang with Rv , wait , did he just not beat him straight up last week , followed up by a second , after a hard crash , if he is washed up , than so is REED Dungy , KW , and all the rest , ..... Just sayin !

well said Preston. Props to JS for getting off his Asssssssssssssssss and winning the lcq and then running down CR for second in the main.......now they are off to Reedy's House SD !

ctrefz wrote: 4:50pm February 6, 2012

Stop talking about Stewart already. What do you folks have to say about Dungey. I think hes where he should be the fourth fastest guy period.

You cant take his championships away but you sure can critize how he obtained them. If Villopoto, Stewart,Reed and Hill for that matter were not injured in 2010 Dungey would have never won those championships. Sad part is Dungey wont get aggressive and try to go faster and prove he deserved those titles.

Profile Picture
Retardcross wrote: 6:46pm February 6, 2012

@ ctrefz........Dungey deserved those titles as much as any other champion. Part of racing is staying healthy and consistent and he was the man in those situations. Racing is unpredictable and there is no such thing as an accidental or "gift" title at the end of a series. You have to be there until the end. If we really wanted to we could come up with an asterisk for every single title ever awarded. As far as I'm concerned right now, Dungey is just as much in this hunt as anyone still.

Profile Picture
WFO_UFO wrote: 2:18am February 7, 2012

I thought Dungey silenced the 2010 doubters in 2011- give him a break- new team, new bike.

Profile Picture
bd200 wrote: 9:35am February 7, 2012

@ctrefz, dont know what series you are watching, but Dungey is in the top 3 in points, and finished there last season also, and has the same number if wins as anyone besides RV1-- you are watching the wrong series or you are just blind to the guys talent.
