Herlings Crashes Days Before GP Opener
Tuesday, February 26, 2013 | 2:20 PM
Red Bull KTM's Jeffrey Herlings suffered a big crash today at Lommel just days before the opener of the 2013 GP season in Qatar (starts this weekend, on March 2). Herlings, the heavy favorite to repeat in the MX2 Class, tweeted the following today:
Might have f*&^ed it up 3 days before the season starts. #badluck #crash
I'll give all you guys a update tomorrow when I have seen the doc.
Our friends at MOTO have film of the crash which can be viewed here.
We will continue to update this developing story.

Lommel bits back!! hope he is fine.
He tweets "Might have f@#%&d it up 3 days before the start" Real professional and classy...
@ bd200, in Holland we don't get our panties in a bunch when someone swears on television or if some nudity is shown on television.
Not every country thinks the same about these topics as Americans (thank god).
On topic: hopefully he can defend his title and if he misses the first race he'll probably can still become a repeat MX2 champion.
@Lars - there is a big difference between "someone" swearing or showing nudity on TV and a "role model" for young motocross riders all over the world swearing about an injury. I don't give a crap what he said. I'm just saying I can see bd200's point about a role model needing to look professional and classy
@bd200 ,, I agree..
Hannah and the boys had it so much easier back in the day without unofficial 'tweeter' releases. Kids, looking for a role model, take a good look at your folks and let the big boys pin-it to win it, rather than watching their Ps n Qs.
@ Kxpwr18, still there is a huge difference how we see it and how most of the Americans see it.
I am not saying it is a good thing when he swears in a tweet, but absolutely no one in Holland would make a thing out of it and nor will his fan base . Also, it is just how the kid is and probably will be for a while.
He's the anti-Dunge.
F#$k me, I'd be p!$$#d too if I crashed days before the start of a championship...
When you might have ruined your season before it starts and your a title contender. I'd say that's more than an appropriate time to swear. It's called emotion bd200. Go shine your cross!
Bring back Benny Hill you BOOBS ! LOL
@Nivek - What if a kids parents are janitors who drink too much or something like that? There's nothing wrong with looking up to people in the public light. How many kids didn't want to be a fireman or policemen growing up. having role models is good for kids; and they can't be just their parents, or everyone would end up the same and too many people would be doing things that didn't make them happy.
I love cussing. And dirt bikes. Shows dude is real, not a front
bd200--your not to professional or classy, but showing emotion, something folks here always complain about......always the same ol PR line and sponsor list and not what they are realy feeling.
Kxpwr18-- if you are looking at any Athlete as a role model, based on the fact that they are in the publics view I'm sorry. I have not and will not let me kids think just because someone does a sport and makes a lot of money at it, that they are a good person......
So who here has never cussed in front of their kids when something has gone terribly wrong????
BD200----It should read YOUR RIGHT, not to professional or classy......I forgot a word
or even YOU'RE RIGHT
lol
had to...
or even YOU'RE RIGHT
lol
had to...
Cry because the kid swears in a typed message? What a bunch of wussies... Your grandfathers would laugh at what a bunch of women you have all become, unless they were Liberal.
@Lars...yes you can see tits...but you also are fed horse, while mosques are built everywhere and Muslims riot in your streets. This happens while all you sissy men walk around with a slingshot in your back pocket...Stop pointing fingers as you bend over for your own ruling class screwing.
Dang, hope he heals up quick! Sure he is a punk but dang can he rip it up. Plus I want him to be at the MXdN so the good ol red white and blue can show him whats up this year! Hehehe...
As for his message, who cares? People need to stop judging others on every little thing and watch out for themselves a bit more and focus on the truly large issues... Sad.
@pizzacorner--whats wrong with a Mosque?? What makes you think everyone believes and has the same religious faith as you?? You are one of the guys who screams "Its my constitutional right" correct?? One of those constitutional rights in this country is freedom of religion.. This Nation was built on freedom of religion..Clown...
@Lars--we can see nudity and hear cursing on TV here in the states too--so what??? Just watch FX Channel at night.. LOL!!!
My post was strictly on this guy being very unprofessional--he has had several problems with being a little radical... He has shoved a female official down at one race, and a host of other incidents.. Stefen Everets called him a "Bast0rd" once.. thats pretty bad..
He's the trailer park guy's champion. lol. The good thing for him is there shouldn't be much compitition for him in that class this year. It's not like he is racing the Nationals.
@therealmofo,, hahaha,, and I'm "trolling." More name calling I see.. You are a piece of work...
@Lars,, When you come on an American website, and bad mouth America,, probably not a wise decision..
@ pizza
Lol. The Truth!!!
Hope he heals up before MXoN.
I can only try to appreciate the frustration JH1 must have felt as he tried to get all his emotion into 140 characters. He is a very dedicated young rider, and is obviously a tad frustrated. As no-one knows (including him) the extent of his injuries as of this writing, I will remain optimistic and hope for the best...
See you this weekend at Qutar, Champ! I'll be the one on the couch with the frosty cold PBR ....cheering!
@caseypons ,,, "PBR?" Holy moly man......
@caseypons ,,, "PBR?" Holy moly man......
If I'm looking at the schedule right, and the TBAs don't end up getting cancelled, the series has 19 rounds, and only 2 in March. If he's that dominant, he should be able to concede a round or two and still win the series. That is unless they changed to some weird point system like AMA Superbikes, where first is 2000 points, last is 100, and DNS is of course 0.
I hope PBR stands for something better tasting in Europe than it does in the US.
@mxmofo1....What's wrong with Herlings tweeting "f@#%&d"?........and what does "mofo" stand for? Am I being too cryptic for you? Or do you see the irony and hypocrisy in your agreeing with bd200? ROFLMAO!
@mxmofo--Trolling for ME again.. my post had nothing to do with you and isnt your concern, yet you direct a post towards me...get my point weirdo... That makes about 7 or 8 post today directed towards me for no other reason than starting crap or creeping.. You have issues dude, and are creepy too.. Go away..
Honestly, when are people going to quit expecting these kids to act like adults? It doesn't matter that they are professional athletes, role models, or brand spokespeople, at the end of the day they are still kids and will swear once in a while. Who cares, and why would you?
Hopefully not injured to bad, All you see this kid ride in is sand, you'd think he'd be training on other surfaces, or maybe its all he's got by his home. Every video you watch of this sandmaster is him holding it WFO in a nasty sand track, not the least surprised to see this bite him. That Lommel might be nice soft landing if you crash but what a sketchy track, when you push like him. Hopefully he heals up quick, def. tuff luck.
Lol!!!! Thats what happens when your head is bigger than a watermelon
@Lars go eat some garbage pud wacker.
@Lars go eat some garbage pud wacker.
I remember when Ryan Villopoto swore on tv after he lost the 2008 Supercross Lites East Championship. Was that classy?
Funny thing is he was upset about Trey Canard unintentionally taking him out but then Villopoto INTENTIONALLY went and took out Ryan Dungey in St Louis in 2010.
Do you guys come on here scouting talent as a suitable English teacher for your children? Or is the ONLY reason we pay attention to any of these guys is because they can haul ass on a dirt bike?
@motoxdoc Someond needs a timeout-both mofos are hypocrits! I hope JH1 is gets healthy. I also hope he would come race the nationals -he is a beast!!
mommy!!! a bad man said words that scaaaaree meeeeeee!!! *waaa*
@motoxdoc,, maybe you should read the ACTUAL tweet by Herlings?? Maybe you should actually do a little research before you spew an answer...
@therealmofo ,, you mean like my post talking to Welker about SX laps had nothing to do with you??? Your 3 minute memory strikes again... Put the drugs down for a little while...
Hey bd200 - tell us where the bad man touched you...
I know a Chinese guy who calls that track "ROMMER."
be your own kids role model, these racers don't owe sh!t to you or your children..a racers job is to win the race and that is it!
bd200 we don't need you to repeat his tweet you twit, no go poor yourself a tea and get back to you F@#%&ng; needle point. Man some people.
Get well soon Mr Herlings, the sport needs you.
@ pizzacorner, I think you are accidentally mistaking Holland (Europe) for Iraq or Afghanistan (Middle East). Muslims riots in Holland haha? Great fanatasy. Look at a map.
He's to the point. No bullshit. Says what he thinks. And backs it up with wins in the GPs and beating (in Lommel: lapping) the world's best at the MXONs on occasion.
It really isn't that big of a deal the he swore,, but, he still shouldn't have done it..
@canadianmxfan,, you must realize that part of his pay comes from the fans,, so he might want to use his words a little more closely if he wants to keep,, his fans..
@Lars ,, Yep,, he did smoke the Americans at the "sand track." He's more than welcome to come here and race the Nationals. Roczen can beat Herlings on any track, but sand.. So that might tell you something...
I understand getting mad and cussing, sure.. But to finally get to the sidelines, get checked by a physician, and then get your phone and take the time to "tweet" a cuss word!! Really?? After all that time?? How old is he 15.. Its immature and silly, typing a cussword is so juvenile its ignorant, but just my opinion...
@newman963--"poor myself a tea?? I'm a "twit" Hahahahaha!! You just went all British on me didnt you??? LOL!!!

x2
He should ´ve thanked god for this crash and tweet how much he loves the soil that bruised him, like TC would´ve done it.
@Mxmofo1 I claim this site for South Africa / Switzerland!!!
He's sooooo Dutch the Herlings. The dutch always speak their mind, whether you asked them for it OR NOT. Some of these comments on here are classic. Some take it waaay too seriously whilst other eat them alive. Great entertainment.
Oh...even though I don't watch the GPs that much anymore...I'll still say the Yanks are gonna get it handed to them AGAIN! hehehehe. Man....why didn't I start doing this earlier? We only have like.....9 or 8 months to use the word "again". Gotta enjoy it whilst we can!
He's fine, some bruises, no problem for this weekend.
Somobody here is still pissed off at 84 because he beat everyone in Lommel. (except 222, at least last year), even RacerX dedicated just a few pages on just one number, it was too much to swallow I guess
@manes ,, Who's mad that Herlings beat everyone except Cairoli on here? We all know that he was extremely fast in the sand.. It really wasnt a shock to me. I would guess that Roczen has beaten Herlings more times than Herlings has beat Roczen..
@manes--get real--nobody is "mad " at anyone for beating anybody.. The Euros put way more into the Des Nations than us here in the States anyways.. We enjoy the race, but it isnt near as big a deal here as some in Europe may think.... But Herlings will win the GP's again, because all his competetion who can beat him is here--Musquin--Roczen.. Maybe he should come here and face some competetion.. We would enjoy it here..
@manes.....I'll respect him more when he comes here and beats anyone...or any Yank top 5 on a NORMAL un cat box like track like Caroli did...OH WAIT he didn't.........I do like him more for his tweet...and I have no idea why the total pussification of modern man wimps think he needs to raise their children in a certain manner ,...isn't that the parents job...hes a racer not their damn nanny...waaaa waaa...geezus f*&^king PC correct wimps , its a real world OUT there...ask your wife or mommy if you can go play in it.....GO RV 51 41......
@motoxdoc: Bingo! & Touché...
@tonewall; You hate all cats too??? Or is just "Euro Cats"
@Tonewall: PS RACER X RACE REPORT: ATLANTA 7:20PM Feb 25, You've got mail...
I saw MC geat upset and say something to some drunks who were gratuitously F bombing in ear shot of some kids he was signing autgraphs for in the pits. Maybe some people would say he was pussificating the sport. I respect people who will say something in a situation like that.
@tonewall--You think cussing makes a guy a man?? Really?? So some spoiled kid walks around throwing F-bombs makes the kid NOT a pu$$y?? I disagree.. So you think men from the past were tougher.. Those tough guys from the past were taught respect for others growing up, and they taught their children the same.. If I was a young guy and yelled cuss words in public around some Ladies or children, my Dad would have corrected me, believe me..in his own way.. That DOES NOT make him or me pu$$ies, it makes us respectful.. Like MEN used to be, these spoiled young kids now are vulgar, disrespectful, and pus$ies in my opinion..They have been spoiled their whole lives, and never had to be responsible for their actions.. Its why they are vulgar and disrespectful.. Young Men were taught class back in the day, not now.. I think you have it backwards tonewall..
@bd200,, well said... Less respect, and more entitlements now-a-days,, you know, like Holland has become...
f*ck Herlings
Update twitter:
Jeffrey Herlings @JHerlings84
Sorry for the late update. Made my way to Qatar. Knee pritty bad damaged and my leg is really badly bruised. Will try to make the best of it.
Jeffrey Herlings @JHerlings84
Deffinetly wont fight for the win. Top 5 in mx2 is my goal if I can make it to the gate anyway.2 more days to heal up..Will be in big pain.
Jeffrey Herlings @JHerlings84
My way of cooling my leg as there is no ice for the moment. Missing my favourite drink 'Red-Bull' in this fridge
last time i checked that was his twitter just like if you have your own facebook it is yours to do with what you like he didnt ask to be on the evening news and go spouting off cuss words. People follow you on twitter because they want to hear what you got to say if they dont like it dont follow. you saying he shouldnt cuss on his personal twitter account is just like him saying you shouldnt walk around your house in your undewear....
@jeramey,, you are comparing social media to the privacy of the inside of your house? Hmmmmm..
the point is you or any of these other clowns have no right telling him what he should or should'nt say on his twitter account
I talk how I want to talk and if some guy overheard be dropping the f-bomb and said something to me i'd probably lay them the f ** k out and the moral of that story would be is to mind your own business
I still don't understand why RacerX magazine didn't give any space to the 2012 Des Nations, just a few pages on one number. It was different in other years.
BD200: it's his business if he wants to stay in Europe, he is still young and anyway he is not an SX rider, moving to the US he would just race for 3 months a year, too little.
Tonewall: come dude, I have a cage for your cat, there is a small hook on which you can put a slice of cheese or salami, as soon as your American cat tries to eat it, the front door locks up. Herlings likes to use it, especially in Lommel. Only Cairoli222 escaped that trap...
Is this forum a religious & political debate or about motox? I can't blame Herlings for being mad about that, anybody would be, but maybe he should keep it to himself and not post it, but he's young and doesn't get the role model thing yet. I hope he does get healthy for the MX of Nations as I would like to see somebody kick his & Caroli's a.. at the Nations this year!
@manes, you are right--it is his business if he wants to stay in Europe--but he cant sit back and say he is the best in the world, and neither can anyone else claim that.. Because staying there he isnt beating the best.. The guys who beat him and the fromer GP Champs are here in the USA, and even those two havent beaten the guys here for a title, and only one win between the two of them.. But if he wants to stay there he can I guess.. And if you ar a great rider, you can ride anything, period.. Including supercross.. Our guys race all year here, not just a few months like in Europe, the season ends at the end of August, then the Monster Cup, then all the training anf testing for Supercross.. Our season runs from January until September...9 months dude..
@tricky--it has nothing to do with being a role model--just having class...Even
Everts said the kid acts like a Ba$tard...
Is this a religeous & political site or about MX? I can't blame JH for being mad about the crash, anybody would be, maybe he should'nt post it, he's young & doesn't get the role model thing yet. I hope he gets healthy for the MX of Nations so somebody can kick his & Caroli's a.. this year!
ok so he doesn't have any class either & he's not a very good role model, i don't like him anyway
BD200: here the season starts in early February and ends in October. It's not just the World Championship, there are the various national championships.
Most of our riders make a full season, most of US riders suffer of injuries, especially from January to May, which sucks bad.
Herlings is entering the World Championship, he is paid a lot to do so, he is not fast on SX tracks, why should he move to the US? It's a choice of life, but he is still young, everything can happen.
Anyway, for the 1000th time, I feel like to say that Italy is far from being as wide as California but it has to challenge against USA in the Des Nations. Same goes for other European countries. And sometimes they don't do that bad.
"I talk how I want to talk and if some guy overheard be dropping the f-bomb and said something to me i'd probably lay them the f ** k out and the moral of that story would be is to mind your own business"
-----------------------
lol. Glad you said probably. I'm sure you would size them up first and if you weren't sure you could do it you would back down with your tail between your legs. I know some really bad dudes who just look for people like you.
I hope Jeffrey Herlings wil race a season Super-cross once. Everyone seems to now how fast he is on a SX track. All these tracks are the same. So the american racers can practice on their home track, and race those races blindfolded, in a manner of speaking. The GP's however are 18 totally different tracks, and yes, I believe 4 or 5 are sand tracks. So I think you be amazed how fast he is on hard pack, and SX tracks. On his 1st GP season in MX2 he was slightly slower than Ken, what was his 2nd season.
I'l think you not yet finished with this young man, If he's done with GP's.
The only thing what I don't like about it is, I can't watch him live anymore.
f*&k! :)
O yeah, I saw this video, I hope this is not a reflection of the American people.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gvoLlG68Fs&feature=player_embedded
Maybe we better type some words with punctuation in it.
like Jeffrey Herlings does. :)
@manes---I hope you arent going to start a USA is way bigger crap now about the Des Nations.. We dont send all 300 million people there, just 3, like every other Nation does..Only 3 guys go..
@fastwil...our outdoor series is on 12 "Totally Different " tracks also.. So what.. Our outdoor tracks are on totally different sections of the US, all with different soil textures and all.. We have hard pack, soft rutted dirt, a sand track, all different like anywhere else.. You cant compare outdoor tracks to supercross tracks, which are all different also, with different dirt too.. Out west the dirt is similar, but once the series moves east it all changes..
If anyone wants to prove how fast Herlings is, send him over.. We can teach him just like we are teaching Roczen.. Who said of our outdoor Nationals "I couldnt believe how fast everyone was, how hard it was, and how hard and rough the tracks were, it was hot, I thought my conditioning was up to par.. But I completely was not ready for it.. I got very tired as the season wore on" ..." The guys here (in the USA) charge from the time the gate drops all the way to the end, relentless, and they are all fast" From a former GP World Champ.. Ken Roczen..
@bd200
How cute he says WE
WE can teach him
good job forum champ
@Alwin--GOON whatever you call yourself--yes I said "WE" its how we are here in the States.. All Brothers in arms here.. And its nice you think I am cute, but I'm not like that dude, you will have too look elsewhere.. sorry.. I am married..
@bd20..
It's very easy to burn every one down, on every thing they say.
You, and I main You as in You personally, has nothing to do with the racers and their improvement or results on the track. So don't tab yourself on the shoulder. Even Rocsen can without YOU!
These are your words:
"And if you ar a great rider, you can ride anything, period.. Including supercross.. "
So I responded with this:
"I hope Jeffrey Herlings wil race a season Super-cross once. Everyone seems to now how fast he is on a SX track. All these tracks are the same. So the american racers can practice on their home track, and race those races blindfolded, in a manner of speaking. The GP's however are 18 totally different tracks, and yes, I believe 4 or 5 are sand tracks. So I think you be amazed how fast he is on hard pack, and SX tracks."
I don't now why You are bringing up Outdoors now, that of course, is easy to Jeffrey Herlings! Tracks he is racing every weekend.
In the years there are several euro racers successful in different competitions in USA. I mean real champs. This year the next one. I think a lot more Euro racers where successful in the USA. Then USA racers in Europe
I don't gonna say now that WE can teach USA racers how to race. Send them over!
But don't be a crybaby if there are races in sand. Because what did you say again?:
"And if you ar a great rider, you can ride anything, period"
This is not wat I saw at the MXON 2012. Is it that YOU with your: "All Brothers in arms" failed.....to teach.....
You and you Brothers seeing things true glasses, USA glasses. Not reality.
Even can you see its very simple to burn some one down. Sorry for that.
I think Euro riders get a lot better treatment when they come to the states to race than American racers get when they go over seas. That is a big reason not many Americans go over to race GPs.
Euro riders get good bikes and awsome support in the states. They have just as good a chance as our riders. That's why they get better here. It's called the land of opportunity for a reason.
@Please don't hate us. (I don't, but I think you do)
Yeah yeah, so you now how the Euro riders being supported in the States??
And more imported, how the USA riders being treated in Europe??
What you say is nonsense.
Its for every racer the same, if Euro racers go to USA for 8 months racing without family and friends, far from home, its hard. But it isn't harder as USA racers come over to Europe. And trust me the USA racers get the same material as Euro racers, The best there is!
So it is Nonsense that the Euro riders get better in USA because they get good bikes. They get better because they want to win races, like they did in Europe.
If I read your lines, I believe you think we don't have proper MX bikes in Europe. I heard the most MX bikes are coming from Japan! NOT USA. But.....wait, not all of them, there is one brand, that comes from...mmhh..Yeah Europe! I believe they are orange, and winning almost every race in GP and maybe they do this in the feature in USA as well.
Land of opportunity...
