Herlings Crashes Days Before GP Opener

Tuesday, February 26, 2013 | 2:20 PM
Red Bull KTM's Jeffrey Herlings suffered a big crash today at Lommel just days before the opener of the 2013 GP season in Qatar (starts this weekend, on March 2). Herlings, the heavy favorite to repeat in the MX2 Class, tweeted the following today:

Might have f*&^ed it up 3 days before the season starts. #badluck #crash

I'll give all you guys a update tomorrow when I have seen the doc.

Our friends at MOTO have film of the crash which can be viewed here.

We will continue to update this developing story.

@ bd200, in Holland we don't get our panties in a bunch when someone swears on television or if some nudity is shown on television.

Not every country thinks the same about these topics as Americans (thank god).

On topic: hopefully he can defend his title and if he misses the first race he'll probably can still become a repeat MX2 champion.

@Lars - there is a big difference between "someone" swearing or showing nudity on TV and a "role model" for young motocross riders all over the world swearing about an injury. I don't give a crap what he said. I'm just saying I can see bd200's point about a role model needing to look professional and classy

Hannah and the boys had it so much easier back in the day without unofficial 'tweeter' releases. Kids, looking for a role model, take a good look at your folks and let the big boys pin-it to win it, rather than watching their Ps n Qs.

Profile Picture
Lars wrote: 3:37pm February 26, 2013

@ Kxpwr18, still there is a huge difference how we see it and how most of the Americans see it.

I am not saying it is a good thing when he swears in a tweet, but absolutely no one in Holland would make a thing out of it and nor will his fan base . Also, it is just how the kid is and probably will be for a while.

@Nivek - What if a kids parents are janitors who drink too much or something like that? There's nothing wrong with looking up to people in the public light. How many kids didn't want to be a fireman or policemen growing up. having role models is good for kids; and they can't be just their parents, or everyone would end up the same and too many people would be doing things that didn't make them happy.

Kxpwr18-- if you are looking at any Athlete as a role model, based on the fact that they are in the publics view I'm sorry. I have not and will not let me kids think just because someone does a sport and makes a lot of money at it, that they are a good person......

If I'm looking at the schedule right, and the TBAs don't end up getting cancelled, the series has 19 rounds, and only 2 in March. If he's that dominant, he should be able to concede a round or two and still win the series. That is unless they changed to some weird point system like AMA Superbikes, where first is 2000 points, last is 100, and DNS is of course 0.

I hope PBR stands for something better tasting in Europe than it does in the US.

Hopefully not injured to bad, All you see this kid ride in is sand, you'd think he'd be training on other surfaces, or maybe its all he's got by his home. Every video you watch of this sandmaster is him holding it WFO in a nasty sand track, not the least surprised to see this bite him. That Lommel might be nice soft landing if you crash but what a sketchy track, when you push like him. Hopefully he heals up quick, def. tuff luck.

Those tough guys from the past were taught respect for others growing up, and they taught their children the same.. If I was a young guy and yelled cuss words in public around some Ladies or children, my Dad would have corrected me, believe me..in his own way.. That DOES NOT make him or me pu$$ies, it makes us respectful.. Like MEN used to be, these spoiled young kids now are vulgar, disrespectful, and pus$ies in my opinion..They have been spoiled their whole lives, and never had to be responsible for their actions.. I still don't understand why RacerX magazine didn't give any space to the 2012 Des Nations, just a few pages on one number. It was different in other years.
BD200: it's his business if he wants to stay in Europe, he is still young and anyway he is not an SX rider, moving to the US he would just race for 3 months a year, too little.
Tonewall: come dude, I have a cage for your cat, there is a small hook on which you can put a slice of cheese or salami, as soon as your American cat tries to eat it, the front door locks up. Herlings likes to use it, especially in Lommel. Only Cairoli222 escaped that trap...

The guys who beat him and the fromer GP Champs are here in the USA, and even those two havent beaten the guys here for a title, and only one win between the two of them.. But if he wants to stay there he can I guess.. And if you ar a great rider, you can ride anything, period.. Including supercross.. BD200: here the season starts in early February and ends in October. It's not just the World Championship, there are the various national championships.
Most of our riders make a full season, most of US riders suffer of injuries, especially from January to May, which sucks bad.
Herlings is entering the World Championship, he is paid a lot to do so, he is not fast on SX tracks, why should he move to the US? It's a choice of life, but he is still young, everything can happen.
Anyway, for the 1000th time, I feel like to say that Italy is far from being as wide as California but it has to challenge against USA in the Des Nations. Same goes for other European countries. And sometimes they don't do that bad.

I hope Jeffrey Herlings wil race a season Super-cross once. Everyone seems to now how fast he is on a SX track. All these tracks are the same. So the american racers can practice on their home track, and race those races blindfolded, in a manner of speaking. The GP's however are 18 totally different tracks, and yes, I believe 4 or 5 are sand tracks. So I think you be amazed how fast he is on hard pack, and SX tracks. On his 1st GP season in MX2 he was slightly slower than Ken, what was his 2nd season.

I'l think you not yet finished with this young man, If he's done with GP's.
The only thing what I don't like about it is, I can't watch him live anymore.

@manes---I hope you arent going to start a USA is way bigger crap now about the Des Nations.. We dont send all 300 million people there, just 3, like every other Nation does..Only 3 guys go..

@fastwil...our outdoor series is on 12 "Totally Different " tracks also.. So what.. Our outdoor tracks are on totally different sections of the US, all with different soil textures and all.. We have hard pack, soft rutted dirt, a sand track, all different like anywhere else.. You cant compare outdoor tracks to supercross tracks, which are all different also, with different dirt too.. Out west the dirt is similar, but once the series moves east it all changes..

If anyone wants to prove how fast Herlings is, send him over.. We can teach him just like we are teaching Roczen.. Who said of our outdoor Nationals "I couldnt believe how fast everyone was, how hard it was, and how hard and rough the tracks were, it was hot, I thought my conditioning was up to par.. But I completely was not ready for it.. I got very tired as the season wore on" ..." The guys here (in the USA) charge from the time the gate drops all the way to the end, relentless, and they are all fast" From a former GP World Champ.. Ken Roczen..

It's very easy to burn every one down, on every thing they say.

You, and I main You as in You personally, has nothing to do with the racers and their improvement or results on the track. So don't tab yourself on the shoulder. Even Rocsen can without YOU!

These are your words:
"And if you ar a great rider, you can ride anything, period.. Including supercross.. "

So I responded with this:
"I hope Jeffrey Herlings wil race a season Super-cross once. Everyone seems to now how fast he is on a SX track. All these tracks are the same. I don't now why You are bringing up Outdoors now, that of course, is easy to Jeffrey Herlings! Tracks he is racing every weekend.

In the years there are several euro racers successful in different competitions in USA. I mean real champs. This year the next one. I think a lot more Euro racers where successful in the USA. Then USA racers in Europe
I don't gonna say now that WE can teach USA racers how to race. Send them over!

But don't be a crybaby if there are races in sand. Because what did you say again?:

"And if you ar a great rider, you can ride anything, period"

This is not wat I saw at the MXON 2012. Is it that YOU with your: "All Brothers in arms" failed.....to teach.....

You and you Brothers seeing things true glasses, USA glasses. Not reality.

Even can you see its very simple to burn some one down. Sorry for that.

I think Euro riders get a lot better treatment when they come to the states to race than American racers get when they go over seas. That is a big reason not many Americans go over to race GPs.

Euro riders get good bikes and awsome support in the states. They have just as good a chance as our riders. That's why they get better here. It's called the land of opportunity for a reason.

@Please don't hate us. (I don't, but I think you do)

Yeah yeah, so you now how the Euro riders being supported in the States??
And more imported, how the USA riders being treated in Europe??
What you say is nonsense.
Its for every racer the same, if Euro racers go to USA for 8 months racing without family and friends, far from home, its hard. But it isn't harder as USA racers come over to Europe. And trust me the USA racers get the same material as Euro racers, The best there is!
So it is Nonsense that the Euro riders get better in USA because they get good bikes. They get better because they want to win races, like they did in Europe.
If I read your lines, I believe you think we don't have proper MX bikes in Europe. I heard the most MX bikes are coming from Japan! NOT USA. But.....wait, not all of them, there is one brand, that comes from...mmhh..Yeah Europe! I believe they are orange, and winning almost every race in GP and maybe they do this in the feature in USA as well.

Land of opportunity...
