Holeshot line is getting more ridiculous! I have mixed feelings on this track.
Sand whoops could be a line line joke again..If they keep it prepped who knows!! Water the hell out of it!
I agree Glock, I just hope the racing improves so we can see some actual battles instead of follow the leader. Hopefully this dirt is SX worhy.
dirt wurx........WTF!!!!!
I think this track looks better than the past two...With the history of great races ATL has had in the past, I think we may have another good race...Couple tight sections like the 2011 track and we all remember that one.....Making that left after going back up the start straight will be interesting...i see some front wheel real wheel tap that ass action there......
* front wheel rear wheel tap that ass action there....
the rythym section after the tight left hander /start straight re-entry looks to be possibly an area of differnt options....double, triple...quad???
It looks better but they still have staights were they only touch once or twice sorry that's to easy. I think they should have a wide woop section with a sweeping turn with 30+ woops in it that will bring lap times up and create a great passing zone for the best riders. Just my 2cents
Let me add to that woop section and a wall in the middle.
At least lets have lap times in the 50's!! is that to much to ask??
BillC it will be in the 50's for the mini's
Bring back Charlotte with 1.30 lap times .. Need big outdoor SX tracks...LOL!
8 whoops...be still, my heart. Here is a hint, as long as you keep doing the same thing, you'll keep getting the same racing. I shutter to think of a section of 12 whoops into a 180, into another section of 12 whoops. That would be literally insane....and by that I mean, just like STL 2004. More whoops, less flat tracking = closer racing.
Get rid of dirt wurx. Haven't they figured out their designs suck by now???
Is there only one triple on the track? Looks like a mini bike track to me.
If the soil is loose at this track, it will be very one-lined. Anyone that has raced knows that if the soil is loose/soft/plowed deep, one line gets packed in and thats the good line. No one wants to get in the loose stuff. Thats why they don't use sandy/loamy dirt for SX. It also makes the whoops and jumps break down. At least it will be a change from the hard adobe and clay soil like the first 7 tracks that were slick as ice. One bad track this year could be forgiven but Dirt Wurx has developed a pattern of bad tracks. Its all about dirt selection and design.
Where is the over/under bridge?
I know were the hackers are
Unit 61398
It's Racer X
I just hope it's substantially longer than last week's 45 second lap time, which equals about a 15 minute main event. I hate to brag, but I've had sex that's lasted almost that long.
The green arrow had about a 60-second lap time, but I think the real guys will be getting through the corners faster. Let's hope the jumps are actually as big as the track map this week.
@endoman38
Do you mean 45 seconds or 15 minutes?
Another easy track for the pros.. seriously! This is 2013! The tracks should be way harder and way more technical! It would make it way more exciting and get way more publicity! It should be something only the best of the best could do not something a c class rider could do! Come on get with the times people! This is suppose to be supercross the toughest sport on earth! Go back to 2005 when rc was racing the tracks were way more technical! Supercross is going soft on the riders we need some new track designers to step in and give them a track worthy of supercross!
I just saw some races from back in the 80's and the tracks were much much better.
Whats up with dirt wurx, are they afraid of whoops, they have noooooo imagination. bring any guy from a local track to do the tracks and I bet they would be better.
I've been saying this for a while but Dirtwurx is killing he sport. How can we have 12 completely different tracks outdoors by region but one dimensional tracks indoors for 17 rounds? It's virtually the same track week after week with the same obstacles in different lanes. Each year the whoops get smaller and shorter. The bikes are faster but Dirtwurx doesn't do anything to slow them down but make more smaller obstacles.
Yeah, I'd say a track with a 44 to 45 second lap time is way too short. If I pay for a ticket I better see a 55 second to minute lap time. And wtf with all the 90 degree corners. Alle you see is one blue grooved line all day and night in them. These short tracks and all these 90 degree corners equal NO racing. Most of the time the case is that where you start is where you finish. And all kinds of stupid stuff out of the holeshot and second corners. Feld and dirtwurx need to pull their heads out of there you know what, and put there heads together for something decent, and utilize the freaking floor space.
Track just doesn't seem right, most of them haven't for a while. What happened to dragonbacks up leading into a whoop section?....over/under bridges?.....sand sections that are actually a full straight away long? How about a finish line that could actually have a 2/3 guy wide drag race to the line possible? This finish is lame, single file to the checkers, how exciting...
I'm wondering if the track builders are totally to blame. Seems like it might the bikes, 4strokes make so much power that allows almost all riders to jump everything and run the same lines. They're the great equallizer, before 2strokes wree used to their limit and riders had to be creative with lines which made rider input and skill more important to the outcome of the race.
I wish feld would adjust the number of laps in the main so that it's at least 20 mins. If lap times are at 45 secs then the main should be about 26 laps. As long as they announced how many laps the main was going to be, I'm sure we simpleton race fans could still know what's going on ( sarcasm intended). Also 45-90 degree turns almost always forces a rider to drop in directly behind the rider front. It seems to me anymore that it takes 3 or 4 non one-lined sections consecutively to make for good passing. By non one-lined sections I mean whoops, rhythm, straights, sand, 180's... I know it's easy to critique from a keyboard, but let's start thinking outside the box guys........
why not a small jump mid turn in the 180's. How about some tractor tires to jump up on. Lets bring back some 1 minute lap times, gives the riders who don't get the best start a chance to finish higher up. The 450's should go 20 minutes plus 2 laps and the 250's 15 plus 2 laps. why the short races, especially with no semi's anymore.
Everyone immediately blames DirtWurx for everything when the racing sucks or the dirt sucks. Did no one know that the promoter (FELD) has last say on everything!! Did no one think the whoops are small because DirtWurx was TOLD to make them small?? Or they can't build big berms because they will block seats for fans or sponsors logos for tv shots. I would Bet that DirtWurx wants the same thing everyone wants GREAT racing, they are just as big of fans of the sport as we are!! So before you judge them think about all the people in the front office that make the REAL CALLS!!!
The tracks SUCK. The racing SUCKS. SX is a 3 hour commercial with 48 minutes of actual racing. What would happen to nascar if they ran 79 laps of racing in a 3 hour show?
20 min plus two in the main. Got to stop these 15 min mains. Don't want death traps out there but they have to make sections that are not going to be follow the leader. 8 whoops is a joke. you can make a mistake and still not get passed. Need alternate line sections. Not triple double turn. You can slow it down and make it harder. High insides low outsides and alternate. Let the cream rise to the top instead of following and doing a block pass on a 180. The last 3 rounds make me want the outdoors more than ever
Bring back the 80's/90's style with vertical walls breaking up rhythm lanes. I remember when the whoop sections were called stadium whoops because they were three feet deep and cupped out. Those were real obstacles and would keep lap times down and the competition up. Look at this way has there been a full 20 lap battle this year? Not even close, if the bikes are so evenly matched then the top five should be battling it out lap after lap. The tracks are so one lined that its just follow the leader. Let's bring the racing back Feld, Dirtwurx, AMA, and anyone else making decisions that actually let's me get my $60 seat's worth.
Ive been preaching the commercial side vs. racing side for ever, some where along the line someone thought that we wanted to see 250 six lap heat races and 8 lap 450 heat races, and 4 lap LCQs. Emig had to take a dig at stewart about his dad being down there, who knows there son better than there dad, unpresidented at the factory leval, then stewart goes out get one of his best start and throws it down and makes it look easy with villo, canard, reed, brayton. Why would they add longer and bigger whoop sections and give stewart an advantage, if hes gonna pass thats were he makes it happen. Emig knows so much and know what every rider sould be doing, hes got a chip on his shouder must be all those second place finishes. I think ATL is going to be Stewarts night, it would be cool to see em throw some wrenches in the points. ITs going to be to see Tomac this week. DIrty South.
I think dirt wurx does an overall great job but I've also felt like they are making the tracks too easy trying to accommodate the privateers too much. At Dallas a lot of people were struggling in the whoops during practice, especially the higher digit 250 guys. But when we came back in for the night program you could see that they had gone through and redone the whoops and sure enough once the heats started everyone was now blitzing them like they were a piece of cake. This isn't anything new - I saw the same situation play out at A1 with the sand/wall section. I guess they feel like they are making the track safer but I think all they do is make for more boring racing because they eliminate sections that separate the men from the boys.
250s = 20 mins + 2 laps, 450s = 30 mins + 2 laps. Long, long long whoops, longer sand sections, much more 180s and tehnical stuff overall and in corners. How about much much softer tracks. Hard pack really sucks and is not safe for our heroes. Put in a cool flat track style turn after the straight rather than a bank. Let throttle control and riding ability dominate rather than point and shoot off the wall.
Tickets are $$$$$. We want longer main events.
The whoops are where its at. When Partridge can wheelie all the way through the whoop sections, you know they aren't long enough. They don't have to be ultra deep whoops, you just need 12-14 of them. And preferably another equally long section somewhere else. That will bring the competition closer.
As much as I like the JS7, RV1 and DM18 have too much confidence to drop the top spots now!!!
