I really hate that we have to wait till sunday to watch. It will probably be the best race ever.I'll have to try to not look at RacerX on sat night.

My guide on dish network says SX on CBS @1 pm, SX lites on Speed@1 pm and Racer Tv on at 1 pm also. That's right all three at the same time. I'm a dirt bike junkie but how am I going to watch all of them?

Nascar basketball football baseball etc they always get live coverage. We get f....d.
I say dump CBS and keep speed all the time.

Watching it on a delay really sucks. There's nothing like LIVE racing. I could care less about an auto auction on SPEED that has all of their "LIVE" assets busy.

I watched a bit of the arenacross last weekend. BORING! They're trying to come up with gimmicks to save the series. And the 'road to supercross' is the biggest - and worst - gimmick yet. Did I see Jim Neese riding?

Frustrating that SPEED has 12 (twelve) hours of continuous Barrett Jackson Sat night. I like cool cars but come on. 12 hrs of Barrett and no live SX?

SPEED has stepped up its coverage and I am grateful for more live races each year. I respectfully request that the kind folks at SPEED see if they can cover all the races live delay (i.e. that night with a slight TV delay). Please?

Im bummed as much as anyone else about next day coverage rather than live, not a cbs fan for anything, liberal rat traitors, much rather see it go down on speed as it happens, that being said, my overly attractive wife will see my woes and go out of her way to cheer me up!!!!!!!

CBS is plain awful. 20 minutes of the broadcast is dedicated to educating people what a tear off is. Another 20 minutes is dedicated to commercials. Highlighted heat races and a commercial full main event. Also, RC tends to forget the 250s are aired after the 450s and will spoil results.

Profile Picture
ryanwagopoto wrote: 5:24pm January 18, 2013

CBS will "feature" about 12 seconds" of Heat#2. You would think they could show an 8 minute moto in an HOUR of coverage. SX on Fb spoils results too.

You know, it wasn't that long ago we got NO rounds broadcast live. Ours is not a mainstream sport yet (but we're moving in the right direction). Twelve live rounds out of seventeen isn't bad, and it's improving each year. We should all be thankful for the TV package we have!

Profile Picture
timi wrote: 6:54pm January 18, 2013

if the race has to be next day - have both races on speed - you guys are correct - cbs sucks - too much bs - not enough race coverage

Profile Picture
MotoMushman wrote: 8:19pm January 18, 2013

Agreed!
The only thing worse than CBS coverage would be no coverage at all.
I guess we are still pretty lucky and maybe a little spoiled. I remember when my friends and I would get together on Saturday night and LISTEN to SX live on the internet, and we were thrilled to do it.

Very thankful we can watch the races, for sure. I used to turn a baby monitor on by my computer so I could listen to the races out in the garage Sat. nights and it was great. But when you have a station like Speed who's been the only station to broadcast Supercross (and motocross) either live or same day, why do the people running the show continuously keep putting it on CBS or NBC!? Sure they are mainstream stations, but they make the sport look more like some novelty act than a sport. The camera crews are there, the station is there (Speed), the audience is there; just broadcast the race to the people who love to watch it, and stop trying to turn it into something it's not! Look how the Rutledge Wood (let's make it all NASCAR y'all) BS worked out. Stop making the sport look ridiculous and broadcast it on a station that's willing to broadcast it the way it's meant to be: LIVE!!!

Tailwhip wrote: 9:35pm January 18, 2013

When watching on CBS there's too large of a bandwidth restriction that causes macro-blocking with the fast camera pans. It makes for a lousy experience with SX and NFL. None of the other stations have this problem(NBC, SPEED, FUEL, NBCSP). It looks much worse than Standard Definition broadcasts. I also switched from cable to Uverse and it's identical. I live in the midwest and I'm not sure if the rest of the country is like this. That would be nice to know.

I agree that the experience is lacking. When I watch SX I want to watch SX not SX Highlights. The whole thing is important, it's the most important thing and it gets hacked up. That other stuff should have it's own time slot, before during or after the racing without cutting into the races. Just extend the time by a half hour and edit those in and bam, good to go. I do like seeing other things surrounding our sport but not at the expense of the nights program.

We REALLY don't like the CBS weekends either. For us in the mountain time zone, we get both the 250s and 450s at the same time Sunday. With football on at the same time that is just a bad situation. I know the networks need to buy in and $$$ rules the world, but I can't see how this setup is better for anyone. Tuning out from Racer X now so we can hide from tomorrow's results until Sunday.

As with any sporting event it is made to be watched as it happens, not 5 minutes later, an hour later or the next day, sorry I'll wait for the next live one.For those of you that still enjoy the tape delay you are a better person than I.

Lets all go to cbs.com to complain instead of here.

Profile Picture

The CBS broadcasts really suck. Half the time any of the good racing is missed while on commercial break, the feature stories are usually half-assed attempts at anything interesting, the cameras focus more on crashes rather than racing, and the cheesy 80's music just adds to the torture. I know the powers that be are pushing for more mainstream airtime, but are CBS, NBC etc really the powerhouse of media anymore? And can't some decent people that actually have an interest and knowledge of the sport add some input to the content?

Profile Picture
MX Bob wrote: 1:04pm January 19, 2013

SPEED has 12 hours of continuous Barrett Jackson coverage? It's hard to believe that many people are into that. It's just this side of watching paint dry. Oh boy, some rich old guy bought the Batmobile! The again there are at least 10 channels where you can watch people playing cards, so I guess the general public is easily amused.

The pretend-it's-live-by-not-finding-out-what-happened strategy still works for me on the tape-delay, but live is much better.

Profile Picture
BD25 wrote: 2:09pm January 19, 2013

It may be hard to believe, but over air broadcast TV still reaches far more homes than does cable and satellite. Having supercross on CBS is one of the necessary evils, in order to draw more exposure, draw a more diverse audience, create more fans, which in turn will draw more interest from the large corporations. As painful as it is, we who love moto are still just a drop in the bucket, compared to the fans needed to convince the budget makers to advertise with this sport. Many on here have spoke of having more teams in the paddock sponsored by big corporations, before we can have a Coke, Pepsi, Apple, Mac or NAPA team, we must first enlarge the fan base, this is a tiny step in that direction.

So yes, Supercross is better live, SPEED does a better job covering it, but be sure and watch it on CBS, after you call your friends and get them to watch it. Think of it like a trip to the dentist, it is needed, it is only slightly painful and it will make things healthier in the long run...

tonewall wrote: 2:19pm January 19, 2013

watching it in my mind (small screen)(on ama the wire live) is WAY better than the 10 minutes of C ant B roadcast Sh*t.....Just put em all live on Speed. PLEASE!

Profile Picture
Claxton wrote: 3:30pm January 19, 2013

Supercross promotion sucks and always has. You fill up stadiums that NFL teams don't and you get delayed coverage. There is leverage here that is not used because some small hands are afraid to lose control it seems. If you put David Sterns in charge of the motorcycle industry he would have it rivaling nascar which is losing fan big time now. I refuse to watch delayed coverage especially on CBS because that totally sucks. I put live timing on and see the results live and am more happy with that. People that are thankful for what they get better wake up and check the attendance and compare that to live nascar practice, and toilet paper hurling.

Profile Picture
BD25 wrote: 3:57pm January 19, 2013

True, we can fill up a stadium, where maybe a team does not, but the TV broadcast of the same game will net millions of viewers. Supercross does not have the big number fan base nationally. That is why these broadcasts have value, sucks for now, but the future growth of the sport depends on drawing in more fans. For example very few of the football fans play football, or ever did, while in contrast, most of the moto fans ride or did ride...we need those non riders to learn and enjoy our sport...once they become initiated, with the sport, how can they not find it the most exciting, most entertaining motor sport going?? We all do and so will they!!

Agree that CBS spends way too much time not showing racing, but you'll not get to see the 75% of the action live on speed anyway since they seem to miss 3 out of 4 of the passes between the top guys. .

I spend all morning avoiding the results from the nite before, and they kill it for me 1/4 of the way thru the 250 show. IDIOTS at Speed!!!!!!!!!!!! Just another problem with tape delay.
