Lets hope we see more "upgrade tests" for the other bikes as well because up to this point this review feels like nothing more than an amends for telling the truth in the Racer-X 450 Shootout...
The brakes are not good - the exhaust is packed up and the motor is soft...the bike turns well now but that is not saying much considering from where it had to come from and the shock is not dialed so...it should be a fourth place bike...if we keep kissing the manufacturers ass what would compell them to deliver better products? I am all about truth in bike tests. Sorry for the rant.
"hHow dare you David Pingree and test crew rate the Honda tied for last!!!
You'd better fix this marketing nightmare now!!!" - a statement from Honda's PR department.
@dinosaurmedia, The first thing i thought when i seen... Racer X Tested: 2013 CRF450R was Racer X are trying to get out of the ass chewing they got from Honda from rating it joint last...Haha.
I love mine and everyone I know who has one feels the same about theirs, yeah you need an exhaust but lets face it 90% of the people are gonna put one on whatever bike they buy until these mfg's start atlest anodizing them or something so they dont look so damn ugly but anyways anyupgrade ive done to mine pipe, suspension, chain sprockets, brake rotors.....I would have done to any bike I bought
I own a '13 CRF450 (Coming off of a '12 KX450F last year). I love the CRF. The thing corners amazing, and the low to mid is exceptional. Yep the top end needs some work, but I know there are a lot of pro riders (I race vet-intermediate) that prefer low to mid over the top end. The fit, finish, and re-sale of a CRF is also second to none. I'm very happy with this bike, and plan on at least keeping it 2 years. I have a Yosh pipe, and plan on getting the re-map when they come out.
As far as the review goes, I would love to see some dyno maps of the improvements. Factory Connection is a top notch aftermarket company for Honda's.
No disrespect to Sean, but how the hell can you compare this to the test at Chaney Ranch? At Chaney, big power is a must, and a lack of big power is immediately apparent. So you did some solid mods and took it to... THE MILESTONE VET TRACK?? Are you kidding me? You might as well do some hot laps in your neighborhood and then to a review... I mean, go hit pala or comp edge or something...
Hey Ping,
Did you ride it too, or are you still nursing the broken hand? I am curious to see what you guys think of it compared to the stock KXF or KTM? How does the power compare to those? Is it close? Still way off?
It sounds like the power and brakes are this bikes biggest weaknesses, so now that you addressed them, is it a contender? I know Ping was stoked on it after riding it a couple times before it was actually released, but then come shootout time, he wasn't nearly as thrilled with it.
I'm due for a new bike, but since I prefer Hondas, I've been riding my old one waiting and hoping for a shootout winner.

Why didn't they let Sean finish talking? And why didn't Ping ride the bike? We all know he didn't care for it stock, why not get his thoughts after pimping it out? You guys sure the popping is gone? Strange video is strange.
That track looked rough!!
@jeff go to tokyo mods website theyhave tem availabe now
I heard some people are converting them to the old forks.
