It's Official: Tedesco Not Joining Team Tedder
Sunday, December 30, 2012 | 12:20 PM
We reported on Thursday that veteran Ivan Tedesco would not be lining up at Anaheim 1. At that point in time it was unclear if Tedesco and Team Tedder/Monster Energy Racing had parted ways after it was reported earlier this month that the two had come to terms on a contract for 2013. We received word from team owner, Matt Tedder, yesterday that the team and Tedesco were not able to come to terms for the 2013 supercross season. Here is the official release regarding Tedesco from the team.
"Ivan Tedesco will not be joining Team Tedder/Monster Energy Racing for the 2013 Supercross season. Everything was prepared for Ivan to line up at the 2013 A1 opener with full factory Pro Circuit race bikes. However, Ivan’s long-time outside sponsor funding fell thru. Team Tedder/Monster Energy Racing is still working with Ivan to take a run at the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship."

I'm a little disappointed in IT for not at least hitting A1 in order get some exposure and possible sponsorship/support for the rest of the season. For him to say he's going snowboarding instead of even showing up and giving his fans some face time even if he isn't racing doesn't seem very professional. As a fan, I'm Kinda disappoint in him.
Ditto that Chris. I definitely lost respect for the dude. Saying "snowboarding is a hobby I WILL pay to do" is a knock at the whole community. I don't think he will get a ride now for sure. Luckily he was hot while there was good money in the sport. And let's be honest, if he were still a hot commodity, this wouldn't even matter.
Why was the sponsor's name omitted? Which sponsor was it?
Looks like, he lost some sponsors, Gotta go see who sponsored him in the past
well maybe its best for him or better yet the team since i witnessed guys like tim beatty hand it to tedesco at pala a few weeks ago....tedesco isnt looking all that fast!
Ya if he wants to snowboard more power to him. Give his ride to someone who want to race because
They are hungry to compete. IT hasn't done a lot in the 450s anyway as far as wining !
There will be one less dirty rider on the gate at A1
Who ever the sponsor was, it doesn't matter. Point is, IT is not willing to muster up the funds on his own dime to race. Pure and simple! Even if he has the money, he is not willing to go out of his own pocket because most of these guys are so used to having everything paid for them, they are not going to do anything else wise. I would like to see him race. But not if he is not in it to win it instead of just racing for a check. Then stay home! That's my opinion. It's a business thing for him and his family. Fans don't have anything to do with it unfortunately! Good luck, IT!
Matt Tedder is a great person and I am sure that what ever he can do he will. There is so much that the Tedder family have given to the sport we would not realize the efforts and money that the Tedder family contributes to the sport.
just shows he is only in it for the money and his heart of racing for himself and fun went bye bye
team tedder is not a capable team........... its a "C" team at best. no brainer............going snowboarding if tedder wants some of your bank account
I have no problem with IT and I think this is totally his choice. If he was really wanting to race to go as far as he could there woud be no hesitation he would be getting himself ready for A1. His attitude is clearly treating this like the jobs most of us have and not going without full support. I think if he isn't anymore passionate about it than that he shouldn't be racing anyway. He has turned in a lot of great rides but may just need to step back for a bit and ask himself how bad he wants to race. I know RC probably would not hire him because he knows him very well and has been dissapionted that IT seems to have lost that extra fire and desire to win. He ride well is extremly tallanted but I see no burning desire to win at almost all cost. So lets all just give him abreak and see where he comes up. It takes a lot to race at the level WE want to see and sometimes it drains the mind and body of what you really need to compete.
Thanks IT for the great racing you have put it - best wishes and maybe we will see you back. Have fun snowboarding!
I find it simply amazing IT cant afford to come race at A1.
Really, ..............C'mon man!
He dont wanna race or he would be there.......Guess its all about money.
IT give me a call I will put up cash. If you can podium we are good if not you pay me back
CAPITALISM.
Dave
Crappy time(ing) to have the plug pulled from your 2013 season plans. Where's Cholula (sponsor?) Hot Sauce when you need them...
Hope you're back soon IT.
everything is all about the money...........especially when it comes to your job. IT would have no good results on a team like that, sure he could make a main, but out of top 10 is just not worth it to him at this stage of his career. if he had a good ride he could be inside the top 10, which im sure to him is barely acceptable. he aint racing for you guys anyway , whats it to you if he chooses to not race? dued's been around a long time....... and maybe he dont wont to pay to ride a inferior bike on a low budget team and get his ass kicked week in and week out?
Give the Spot to Weston Peick, he raced out of his own pockets last year.
I wouldn't call somebody paying for PC prepped bikes a C team, B maybe definitely not C
team tedder? give me a break !
i think they are a" third tier team"
tedder is a good fit for weston, not so much for ivan...........
dude, IT is old and slow now,,, so he doesn't want to line up and race for last place on his own dime, whats the BFD. I would go snowboarding to if I was IT....L8r brA, YOU had a good run
Hahahaha! Couldn't have said it better^^^^!
IT doesn't sound like a very hungry racer anymore. Was always a fan. He owned it for a while on 250's. Watching him go 1 -1 a few years back on Pro Circut, at Thunder Valley was a thing of beauty.
Happy Trails, IT!
Much respect for IT9, one of the most exciting riders to watch. Great starter, then feet off the pegs in the whoops... going for it at all times. He is a true hero of the sport.
The lineup is much worse with you not being there, but I totally get it. Nobody pays to work. Period.
tedesco is officially not a factor
all he'd be doing is getting in the way of the guys actually trying to win I think they need to cut the main events down even further with the amount of riders because lets face it hes not the only one out there just riding around collecting a check it may cut down some of the injuries by freeing up track space
Ok, so you work all offseason lining up sponsors, kissing their butt and now you dump em like the chick that got beat with the ugly stick. Good luck the next time you knock on their door.
To all you privateers the snow is great at Mamoth . Screw supercross or motocross. Only a few hours drive from A1. You are umemployed . Great example for guys that try.
Only more respect for guys like Doug Henry. Watch the rope video. He rides and can't even walk.
For IT it make make a diff if you initials were MC . You can do that after 7 titles.
If your late for work don't ask for a raise , look for another job.
If you can't crap get off the pot.
If you can't run with the big dogs p*** on the puppies.
Man you guys must really have passionate hate towards Ivan. The guy is one of the most awesome, laid back dudes to meet. I wonder how much shit people would talk if it was facebook commenting. Never see Transworlds comments like this lol.
Not going to bash IT9.
Making the decision not to ride was probably tough.
From his point of view he may be thinking give it a few races and there will be injuries and maybe a ride will become available.
Not saying that is a great attitude at all.
But injuries happen and with that opportunities.
If he thinks using his own cash to ride a 2nd or 3rd tier bike and make a couple of top tens is not for him then fine.
Twotwo motorsports has one guy, suzuki has one guy, geico has one 450 guy, kawi only have two guys.
Maybe he is hoping to get a opportunity that way via an injury and show his skills on a better bike.
I dont and I am sure he doesn't want anyone to get injured but it will happen.
And IT9 is a capable guy to step in.
But it would have been nice to see him line up and race at A1.
But then snowboarding is fun also.
I think I read somewhere that he had lost his clothing sponsor. That would be a lot of dollars. As for the motorcycle, running a full race PC 450 is definitely not a 2nd or 3rd rate bike.
IT was running top 10 in sx last year before he got hurt.
Kinda shocked to know Tedesco was even getting ready to race A1! I was out at Pala a few weeks ago and watched a Vet rider Tim Beatty just kill hot sauce especially in the corners.......... Hey Tedder sure you could get the old man Beatty for a lot less money for the outdoors....... This sport is the worst when it comes to the financials !!!!!!!!
Heres what sucks about our sport no solidarity, your only as good as your last great finish .The fact of the matter is sponsers want results ,and people forget what we all started rideing for, it was fun.The only people that make money at the sport are the promoters, not the riders .Compare there checks to any other bench sitter in the NFL, NBA or other motor sports such as nascar we fail in peril.Im curently in Ivans position i rode pro for lots of years in the 80s when you can make more riding locally than at the nationals or supercross races whats the point.Im 47 now and am currently recovering from a major broken kneck, that i got doing the sport i love in september at washougal mx park.I will tell you one thing hes done what most only dream of hope to see ya at A1 ivan look for the guy with a neck brace on i loved to watch the race with you and my son > best of luck
Let it go folks. So he's out a sponsor, and out a team. He's getting near retirement anyways, in his position there is no benefit to going privateer and paying out of pocket. The cost of just getting a bike ready, paying for a box van, paying to race is ridiculous for a guy that hasn't shown recently that he can and should be running with the big dogs. It's already been mentioned, but he did get beat pretty bad at the Vet Nationals, maybe his heart isn't in it anymore, maybe he can't afford to gamble on a team picking him up halfway through the season, either way, I say go snowboarding, have fun and take some time off.
The real story is how disgusting the pay for the racers is compared to other sports. The promoter is making millions? Why can't FELD throw some of those dollars back into the teams less funded? #9 insurance premiums probably cost more than a years worth of 12th place finishes, and that sucks because he would be the 12th fastest sx racer in the world! The 12th best football player is making millions.....
I hate to say it but there will be a factory ride available after A1 and he knows that. He hasn't burned bridges, good guy for the sport, obviously could join a team without a sponsor being in the way. He isn't a title contender but could prob give a team some decent results until their A rider has healed up. He's playing it safe till the call comes is what I'm thinking.
I hear he has a hangnail and needed to pull out due to the pain.
I thought IT9 could have become the next Kevin Windham- Veteran Fan Favorite.
He ended up just being too much of a Nancy-Boy for the 450's, and was never tough enough to put in the work... Maybe immature and never grew up??
Glad to hear he will be on a mountain when A1 rolls around.
This guy is washed up,he has no chance in the BIG BOY CLASS.Go snowboarding,so this will open up a gate for someone that wants to RACE! It was good while it lasted, move on to the next stage of your career and enjoy your family time...
cant blame the dude, this sport is brutal and hes had alot of bad injuries remember a guy named jeff stanton? he was done at around 25 yrs old. i wouldnt risk my life for no money , good luck ivan whatever you decide to do . there is a big difference riding just for kicks as opposed to racing at pro level .
His career as a potential winner ended when some unknown landed on his hand and broke it badly. Ivan is a class act, for all you dissing him you no where you can go, hope to see IT9 at the NATS, that's where the men race.
He will be one of the first 'replacement riders' to get hired after the injuries start.
Does anyone know what the payouts are for SX/MX? What is a podium finish actually worth? What's the tipping point for running a profitable season? I've never seen any info on event purses or cash awards (besides the Vegas Million).
He could show up on a KTM 250SX. :) Gain a cult following for smokers. And the best part - if he wins, maybe it's the bike. If he loses, maybe it's the bike. Takes some pressure off producing results. But that sounds like fun, not dollars in your pocket.
