Ivan Tedesco Out for A1
Thursday, December 27, 2012 | 3:10 PMAs first reported by David Pingree, Ivan Tedesco confirmed early this morning that, for the time being, he will not be on the line at Anaheim 1. On December 3, it was announced that Tedesco had signed with Team Tedder/Monster Energy Kawasaki for the 2013 season. At this time it appears that the deal is no longer in place, and Tedesco will not be at Anaheim 1. Tedesco tweeted the following earlier:
It's going to be weird not lining up at A1 this year. Raced it the last 12 years.
I'm not hurt or retired. It's called unemployed. Haha
We will continue to update this story as more develops.

Well this SUCKS!!!!!!
Hey hotsauce, start a page where we can donate to get you to A1. I will be the first to send you some coin mate.
Got to love the PR on this debacle.....announcing before the ink is dry....or even put on paper....im guessing Tedder is premature ejaculator too.....LAME!! Feel bad for Tedesco....
Borrow my bike and put it to good use. I will even bring it with me and get their early! Im sure others will pitch in with gas, etc...
He would only get in the way anywho ! Stay at home and cuddle up to a burritto !
Aww Man. That blows. Maybe he should scrape up some dough and pack a van and try to earn some points, or take advantage of these fan offers above to get him there..(LOL) I can only imagine his phone may ring, once you get these hungy warriors out there and they start racing and subsquently (and unfortunately) start getting hurt. If HOT SAUCE does return, we want to see him in the 450's and not the 250's this time.
Damn, at least he didn't loose his house. He's one of the lucky ones. If he really wanted to race A1 I know he can afford a bike and some gear. Shit, I don't have a house or a job, but I have a bike and some gas...
I like IT9...BUT COME ON MAN!!!! You can't race because no one wants to pay you?!?!? ( yet) You've been a pro for what 10 years? And you've got no money. you might as well sign up for classes at the local community college.
I just don't get it!
Shit, borrow a practice bike from Reed.Run the first few races as a privateer. If this year goes like last year there will be plenty of job openings on great teams.
The LCQ will miss you!
that sux, but I guess you need to go a little faster bro.
FAIL
He needs to buy a bike and show up. He has to have enough money. Ride good, and he will likely get picked up by the 5th round due to injuries.
Buy a RMZ450 start practicing James the lawn dart Stewart will leave a spot for you in a few rounds!
When I saw the title of this I thought, "oh grrrrreat, the pre-season injuries have started"
At least he is healthy and able ot race if a deal pops up
@SpottedMarley, Man I said the same thing when I seen the title !! Thank god its not an injury. Stay healthy boys ! We are in for a perfect storm with all being on the gate for A1 !
Now No more practice till A1 guys !!!
Haha thats what I thought.I was like,Here we go.Let the injury report's start comming in any day now.I wish RV,RD,CR,JS7,TC and NutDuster would all get together and agree not to ride or even touch a bike untill A1.
I like IT too, but it is hard to have a lot of sympathy. He hasn't put up many great rides in the big class and he's been given plenty of opportunities. If you really love to race and want to be at A1, no one has to pay you. In fact, with so many IT fans, I'm sure they would love to see him do it on his own dime and possibly write a really good comeback story. OH well.
Ivan if you really want to race, show up and race. If its a paycheck you want, looks like you will have to invest and earn it or go get a regular job. Gut check time; do you love racing ??
I've always liked IT, so this is a letdown. It's just that he really seems like a decent guy and it's hard not to wish him anything but the best. Hopefully someone is going to pick him up later on.
have you seen the movie Jiro Dreams of Sushi? Hot Sauce could learn a lot from this movie. A documentary on 85-year-old sushi master Jiro Ono, his business in the basement of a Tokyo office building, and his relationship with his son and eventual heir, Yoshikazu. He love what he do and do it. If you truley love what you do, than nothing can stop you.
Chase I think the title of this story should of been .IT9 has no ride for A1.That title freaked out everyone.
I can see both sides of it. If you are a heavy equipment operator, and you can't get a job, do you buy your own equipment and start banging on doors for business, or do you hope someone that will take care of that investment hires you? If he's riding a privateer Suzuki waiting for Stewart to get hurt, what if he gets hurt himself before that phone call comes? I like Tommy Hahn, and hes not racing for the same reason. Why aren't people bagging on him?
buy his own bike and ride outta the back of a van? c'mon guys, that would be a major step backwards..........into the sewer! i've been around a few of these factory riders and they don't want to pay for shit, especially to race . and lets say he took your bike and signed up and raced..........he would kill himself if he tried to go fast. for him to buy a bike and make it race capable would cost around 25k...... and if he won the race( a certain impossibility) he could earn like.........what is it to win, 5k? and what does tenth pay? there is no way to make money racing, unless youre spending someone else's money. if he funded his race program all by himself, a he would spend a shit load of money and would get his ass pounded week after week for 16 weeks, doesnt sound like fun to me! mite aswell throw the money down a hole...... or go to vegas and have a great time....... or keep what youve earned and invest it and let it grow. IT has done his racing.........time marches on brother.
@MX Bob Hahn isn't tweeting that he wished he was going to be there. If IT really wanted to race he could.
@motoguzzi Peick bought a couple of RMZs this year and got a top ten outdoors. Again, if he wanted to race A1 he could. If he wants to retire that's great, but he shouldn't act bummed out.
Total Non Story.
im sure he wants to race...........just not on his own dime. and that is a wise choice i think. wes is not the caliber rider that IT is or was, and for ivan to race around in tenth place spending money instead of making it..........well thats just no fun at all. he has had his time, and i think his best days are behind him. going from a champion, to a podium contender, to struggle to get in the main..........it just sucks going back down the ladder, and it would be a huge gamble for him to invest in himself with his own finances. like i said, the only way to make money racing is to go racing on someone else's dime ! i wish him the best, and hope he finds some kind of deal to get him out there.......if he wants. good luck ivan.......you are still a bad ass in my book
Hmmm...sure he could 'buy' fuggin' A+ PC bike(s) built specifically for him 6mos ago. Barrato!
Doing it would show he is commited.
Suck it up just like the other 60 plus riders who try to make the show.
I've always liked Tedesco, but as some of you are saying, man, he should show up on his own $$ - c'mon Tedesco!
sanchez............the key word is "buy". yeah he could, but you just will not make any money if youre in 10th . unless you have a sponser to pick up most of the bills. drkelly...... doing it would mean, he should be commited ! lol it would just be foolish at this stage. to go out with even year old PC bikes and no testing. he would be so far behind , it would not be good. most of us here drop a couple hundred $ a week to go race, so we have a hard time understanding why a guy like IT wont do the same? its a lot more than just loving to race...........money changes everyone's perception, and when you are used to getting paid to do something, you are likely not going to want to do it for free. especially at such a high level , not to mention the risk involved......physically and financially. i just think if he cant get on a good program with good equipment.......he is better off not racing, than to go out there on inferior bikes, unprepared, and spending his own money. at this point in his career, he is NOT willing to give his left nut to go racing. there probably was a time when......... but not anymore.
You guys have been watching too many Motocross movies. Why should he bust his ass training, risk his life on the track and spend a fortune to make chump change from Feld. Seems like everyone is busting on Ivan here. He's a class act. What about Team Tedder bailing on him?
motoguzzi, I don't agree, its a very simple matter of does he want to race or not. if he placed tenth on average he would make very decent money- for several reasons and from several different sources.
1st I would be suprised if he didnt already own more than one bike he could race. Second he could very easily get great parts etc free. most manufactures have contingency payouts, it only costs about 300 for each race. He could make some calls and get set up very easily with good suspension and he would gain a lot of support if he showed desire. Its only a step back if you let it be in your mind. Ask the hundreds of guys who have done it from Sean Hackly to Chad Reed.
There is nothing wrong with quitting or retiring, I'm just saying if he really wanted to he would and could and would- He said he was not retiring. I say it isn't easy doing it on your own but He would have a easier time of it than 90% of the privateers already doing it simply because of his skill and who he is.
He should be in shape, he doesnt have a regular job so he has way more time to get ready to race than someone who does.
I say this because ive done it and helped guys who have done it , (helping an east coast guy this year) It's a lot of hard work but its also a blast if you truelly love it.
I have spent time with so many riders who have done it on their own and made decent money for years, form Robbie renard, Heath Voss, Jason Thomas-dozens and dozens of guys who IT easily beat. So as a fan of his I would feel confident in saying he could if he really wanted to and he could do very well.
No brainer for carmichael here if you ask me. We all know Josh Hill isn't healthy. Put a 9 bike together and be a three man team working on bonuses for top 5...like Reed did with Suzuki. When Hill is out, absorb his contract. Ivan is a really good guy for a team and the sport. If it was JLaw, everyone would be talking about how someone needs to step up to help him. Just Sayin'
mit12 is a turd!!
tedders a troll
Tedesco prob wants too much money.... shoulve taken the ride for free, and proved to everyone that he can finish out a season un-injured! I am sure he could be a top ten guy, and could end up kinda reinventing himself, but has alot to prove first.......
Surly IT has a lot of connections, why not follow the Chad Reed business plan?
i suppose IT gave us his answer about weather he wanted to race or not.......... out for a1,,,,,, unemployed. that says to me he is looking for employment, and not putting his bike in the truck and go out and look foolish. 50k a year sounds great to somebody making 30k......... but sound like shit to someone who is making 80k. perspective is a funny thing. give a homeless guy 100 grand and he is rich....... if a millionaire lost down to 100k, he is broke. i think ivan should do what he wants, and i understand why he is out for a1, im juss sayin
TripCarlyle GET OFF THE F$CKIN AIR WAVES DOUCHE BAG YOU FUND HIM
I am shocked...at least some peeps are giving him sheet about it...deserved...buy a bike race, or sit at a desk all day and hate life...
on second thought, grab a bike from your garage, pay a mechanic to tune it up and go race for fun and pride...and fans would adore you IT9...we admire passion...cr22 is no longer hated...y? cause he went it alone and is honestly riding better than before...IMHO
I know after watching MTV Cribs that Ivan has his championship winning kx250f in his living room. Fire that up and compete in the 450 class!
cr22 is making money, he wouldnt do it if he wasnt. and if he threw a bike in a pickup truck right before a1 he wouldnt make money. if IT was going to put together his own team he would have had to started six months ago at least. and to say sit at a desk and hat life? man, thats short sighted. I used to go to fla for the winter ams back in the 80's. sleep in my van for weeks and weeks, rode almost everyday, ate bologna sandwiches. i had like 500 dollars to my name...... it was great........at the time. if i had 500 dollars to my name now i would hang myself ! passion is great, but how much money will passion put in ivans pocket if he is finishing 15th, cause every one of those guys at a sx have passion, even the guys that dont make it into the nite show....... perspective, dont bag on IT until youve walked in his shoes. i respect the guy if hes on the gate for a1..........or if hes on the couch. he has earned the right to decide whether he wants to race or not........he might love sitting behind a desk all day and just going and busting laps on the weekend with his buds. racing at the highest level is demanding , draining, and very DANGEROUS........... a desk could look like a nice place to be
@dd4130- I have some MSR gear and a few helmets he can borrow!! lol maybe a few hotel nights too!
The site can be called: 2013IT9Fansponsorpage.com
IT9 Hit me up we have a new all natural energy drink about to launch, its call neon energy drink. If you run the logo we could blow it up and get paid.
Whats better hard work or a sense of entitlement? 47 Million can't be all wrong!
@joshuamccollum802: What's happenin' cuz' - Den
RC is his best friend cant beleive he is not hooked up with RCH racing sozook
you guys who say just ride these guys are pros they cant just go out in 1 week with stock bike or borrow someones bike why are you guys out there
Compare it to a rock band, start out in bars (privateer),then go to arenas (satellite team),to stadiums (factory team). Most go back to bars eventually, except for the elite like Zeppelin who can still get 20,000,000 ticket requests for a stadium concert.
The calls are sure to come in when sitting at home where no one can see what you can do. What about that guy that was just profiled that allows ANYONE to pit under his tent. Isn't Anaheim in California? What are the odds that Ivan isn't living in California right now? Did he not have any other sponsorships lined up? Goggle, gear, boots, oil, etc.? I guess they get nada on any return? Then again, maybe the writing is on the wall with all the talent that will be there and he is just throwing in the towel. Too bad since Ivan seems like a good dude. F for effort though. Thinking back to Doug Henry hitting all the Nationals with a beat up U-Haul trailer and the money he earned working in a sheet metal shop.....maybe some of these guys ought to be thinking back to guys like Henry and the effort they put in as well and stop worrying about their custom Harley and lowrider truck.....or their new tattoo to be seen down at the beach.
There is no comparison either to regular working stiffs, because stop and think about how much money IT has made the last few years for the time spent on the track. If he was a heavy equipment operator, he'd be on worker's comp if it was work related. If it wasn't work related, he'd be assed out. I'd be embarassed to have cashed those checks if I was him, and if I was him I'd go buy a Pro Circuit bike or a Suzuki and run it like either Pro Circuit or Hart were sponsoring me still.....since in effect the money they handed him brought zero return while he WAS sponsored the last few years and is what he has sitting in the bank right now. Technically, anyone that ever paid him to sit on a couch hurt would be funding his current race effort. And I'll wonder again, does he not have other sponsors who are now being let down?
Not even going to watch it live now,lol
SX makes sense for him to get picked up to race at no out of pocket for him. But he won't be paid. He lucked out getting that 250 ride with PC for outdoors. He came out of the gate up front at Hangtown and rode strong for 5 laps then the kids ditched him. At Oakland SX he had great starts and rode strong then went towards the back. This trend will continue. He has an amazing career. Worked back from an ACL tear. Now is the time to stop, since he wouldn't be happy riding for free.
I like Ivan, but c'mon dude. In find it hard to believe that with all the people he knows he can't get a bike around. A whole team/season would be expensive, so why not get a bike with kit suspension and a pipe and try to at least show up. It is SX and the new 450's with minimal work should be ok to ride. May not qualify, got to do it. I get the not wanting to drop down so to speak. As a fan all I can think is he just wants a paycheck because that is all he knows. Maybe it is best to retire and turn bitter like so many other pro's that stopped getting support. This also made me think, just because you get a title with Mitch it doesn't mean glory forever, Mr.Wilson and Baggett.
I thought IT and Ricky Carmichael were close buddies. Ricky cant help out a buddy?
I'm all for heart and grit and showing up to race, but I think a lot of you seriously underestimate what kind of prep and money it takes for a guy of even IT9's calibre to put in a proper racing effort. In all honesty at this point in his career and if he is financially sound, him spending all his money on a half prepared racing effort is kind of stupid. He's getting older, classes are getting more stacked, he's been hurt a lot. I wouldn't go to work if it was costing me money either.
And I think a lot of you also overestimate how much money these guys make without a salary. The payouts from Feld for your results are pitiful, travel costs a fortune nowadays, he needs a mechanic he'd have to pay, etc. There's a lot more than meets the eye and when you really look at motocross as a job (which it is for those guys), it's about the dumbest career choice a person can possibly make and totally not worth it from a financial and risk standpoint. He'd be smart to invest his money, stay involved and riding at some level and not piss it all away to chase the dream in 10th place for pennies.
as usual, most of the brainiacs who try to reply are clueless
but some confirmed that no one has a chance at sx without full sponsorship
if he is out of supercross, it is time for arenacross ... or whatever else
A-1 on December 3rd????? WTF did I miss something?????
ride111 - "on december 3rd " is the beginning of a new sentence...
Crap! At least it's not because of an injury....and he does have 8 days left....here's hoping someone somehow pulls something out of somewhere to get Hot Sauce lined up for A1!
He has had too many injuries, missed too many races and been surpassed speed wise by too many young riders. If he had an honest shot at a top 5 he would probably buy his own bike and be out there. There's not much point in going the privateer route at this stage in his career to get 17th or a DNQ. Time to ride for free or hang it up. Maybe hope for another good outdoor ride or a fill in spot.
b-kr........... dude you aint got a clue brother. i assume you cash your check every week and i'm sure you feel like you earned every penny.......and should get more. damn, the guy got hurt doing his job, and i never got the impression that he wasnt putting in the effort. he has been pushed backwards by injuries and young talent. and to say he should be embarrassed to cash those checks is totally a ridiculous cheap shot
I like IT a lot. Good guy, has definitely made the most of his level of talent to this
point and given plenty of good rides. In recent history, hoverer, IF he had put the hurt
on Preston & Hughes @ the glen helen vet nats I think he'd have a ride today. Didn't
look good to get beat in a vet race. For sure, Ryno & Presto could top 10 a national
but still.....I'm thinking if he had a do-over IT might have skipped that race.

( Hey hotsauce, start a page where we can donate to get you to A1. I will be the first to send you some coin mate. )
If he does, Ill send $500 from here in Germany Via Western Union.
Glad to hear this wasn't injury related at least. Thought the same thing when I saw the title.....not already!!! Hopefully somebody will pick him up and like others said....fill in for injured riders seems very likely. Probably first pick for that.
fliwty... WHAT? IA9, Hot Sauce, just got third in a Vet race? without crashing? WOW. Yeah, not a good sign.
Ryno and Preston cannot still get top 10s. I was at Hangtown watching Ryno's comeback and it was embarrassing.
You guys are arguing two different things. Yes it is a step backwards for IT and yes it is a bummer and yes it will be hard to make money, etc..... But he is also capable of qualifying on damn near a bone stock bike IMO. Even though he hasn't put in many good rides, he is still very fast and I have no doubt that minimal suspension tweaks and changes to get him ergonomically comfortable would be enough to qualify. That doesn't cost $25K and he should already know what parts he will need so 1 week prior shouldn't be hard to overcome. If he doesn't want to pay the $, put in the work and already feels like he has no chance to be competitive - that is a completely different thing. And it's understandable, but like others have mentioned, don't act like you are bummed out to not make it to A1. Just admit that you only race for money and the days of you wasting money on a sport you love are gone.
I just want to know why he feels like the sport owes him something. I think the sport has provided enough opportunity and sometimes you have to face the music. You don't deserve a ride and if you still have some fight in you, maybe you should go out and prove something. Reed could have said, "I'm unemployed and Honda won't hire me...oh well." But he bought a Honda and showed he isn't done. When Yamaha wouldn't let Josh Hill move up to the 450 class, he went out and bought a YZ450 and showed up to the test track to convince them. If IT has something to prove....by all means, go for it and many of us will be rooting for you. But don't be mad that you have to open up your wallet now.
with so much talent in the 450 class and more moving up this year and next year i don't think IVan Tedesco will find room for his lazy ass when he tries to come back!!
TOo much hungry talent out there, no room to feel sorry for yourself...
