@jdoug and DG35....do you think its just coincidence that Herlings and Cairolli are the two fastest riders in Europe?? When all you do is train on rutted out sand tracks it makes riding the other tracks like a walk in the park. What good does it do to ride perfectly prepped tracks that require nothing but sick jumping skills? Im pretty sure he proved all season that he can ride any track, I would rather watch a video like this than the typical American mxer video consisting of whips and rap music.

Dang it you know what tho. Than Vanberkel kid on a 250f honda seem to be going faster than Herlings. Not taking anything away from The sand man just saying on this video thats what it seems. I honestly think Herlings and cairolli were unbeatable that day and not even if we Brought Js7 the results would have been same

I would pay hard cold american cash to see him take a few laps at Saddleback or Carlsbad on nice nice dry day.....would quickly tone him down a bit......come on over...show us how its done... should be a cakewalk.......

Always funny to see guys that aren't qualified to carry this kids lunch box talk trash about his riding. It's shameless really. He seems talented, young, and brash, but I don't really get why people hate on him so much.

this is some great conditioning, riding through that cake is much harder but sand ruts give a bit if you miss by 2in. dirt ruts do not. anyone questioning the talent shown here can't be a paid profissional rider. they don't have time to watch this.

Profile Picture
ronniebarnhardt wrote: 12:36am December 27, 2012

@tonewall...using examples like Saddleback and Carlsbad is just plain stupid, our American riders dont even ride those tracks, they all practice on perfectly prepped tracks like Elsinore or Milestone and its usually on special "pro" days when the track hasnt been touched by more than 20 bikes...you think that what he did at Lommel was just because he is a sand specialist? dont ya think that maybe he has to be physically fit to ride that hard for that long on that track? they lapped blake bagget and he is supposed to be the most fit lites rider in the U.S., was it just because they are sand specialist? you think fitness had something to do with it?

I think he'll be more of a threat to the US snow mobile racers than motocross racers. Maybe jet ski racers.

Sand specialists have never been championship contenders in the US. They shine at one or two tracks, and then they're invisible.

Rockzen and Musquin smoked this kid pretty much at every track except the two sand tracks.Thats why the kid didn't come to America. What the point the other two have'n really started winning yet.Wake up people we already have all the best GP riders here except for the one(222).This was pointed out to me from this very blog.

Ha ha ha ha ha . You boys still feeling the pain from your Lommel whippin? Come on guys, get over it. Jeffery will come over there soon enough, and when he does, you will soon be claiming him as one of your own. Hey, anyone can become an American, right? Even some wetback who is good at climbing fences qualifies these days, so it should be a breeze for the boy from Holland. This guy deserves your respect. He comes from a broken home and was raised by his mom, but dispite that, he still made it in a sport where even guys who have a dad working full time to get them to the top, fail miserably. He is the WORLD champion afterall.

Retardcross wrote: 9:02am December 27, 2012

I give Herlings all the credit in the world for the romping at Lommel but that's exactly how it was supposed to go. Americans totally out of their element at the backyard track of both GP class winners. We have home track advantages too at our races so it plays out somewhat. Herlings isn't a threat to do anything special in the US at this point, he'll stay over in Europe. The Euros can't seem to put together the 35 minute SPRINTS which is American racing. Ask Roczen and Musquin who both have Herlings' number.

Profile Picture
ronniebarnhardt wrote: 9:03am December 27, 2012

@Fred...yeah Roczen and Musquin beat him, WHEN HE WAS 14 OR 15 YEARS OLD!!!

Profile Picture
Retardcross wrote: 9:07am December 27, 2012

And by the way growing up racing sand and riding sand makes you a great sand rider and fit, but doesn't make rutted hard pack tracks any easier to ride whoever said that. I could pound 30's in the sand no problem but put me on some real hard pack choppy rutted track and I'd have arm pump in 20 mins, something I always struggled with. Sand is all flow which I can do, you can't attack it like other tracks. Only advantages are with sand tracks and fitness. I don't believe it makes you better on other terrain skill-wise, that doesn't really make sense to be honest.

So you dont think Herlings was sprinting the whole moto at the des nations when he started in 28th and finished 2nd?? Come on man

Profile Picture
Retardcross wrote: 12:22pm December 27, 2012

Stop making one single race out to be the sum of all motocross. Of course him and Cairoli can kill it at the track that's essentialy their backyard, they bloody well should under the circumstances. I can charge harder, longer, faster at my home track too over other places. It's more about knowledge of lines in extreme conditions like Lommel than it is about fitness at that elite level, they're all in good shape.

Profile Picture
MikeP wrote: 1:13pm December 27, 2012

Yep, Jeffrey can't ride on Hardpack, that's the reason he got WorldChampion MX2, because its only ridden on sand tracks like Loket, Saint-Jean and Fermo..
I think the reason he is riding on that track is because almost every track in holland is flooded with water..

Profile Picture
ronniebarnhardt wrote: 1:19pm December 27, 2012

So why did Roczen beat everyone in Thunder Valley at the MXoN? Shouldnt the Americans have handled him due to the fact that they race that track every year? And werent they sprinting or were the Americans holding back that year?

Retardcross wrote: 3:52pm December 27, 2012

@ Ronnie, another one off occasion. What about Roczen every other race this year against the competition, throwing away wins in the closing stages of the races because he was gassed multiple times? You're fighting an uphill battle, the stats regarding Euro vs America don't lie.

Profile Picture
Retardcross wrote: 3:55pm December 27, 2012

If you watch both series it's not very hard to see the different racing styles. Euros have much more track time before main events, slightly longer motos, and they clearly ride with less intensity to the eye. American racers are under the gun almost from the moment they start timed practice and qualifying and the intensity level at the top is clearly higher. I'd like to see the Euro equivalent to an RC vs JS battle, RD vs RD battle, JS vs CR battle, there's no comparison.

Profile Picture
Retardcross wrote: 3:56pm December 27, 2012

RV vs RD**

Profile Picture
ronniebarnhardt wrote: 4:55pm December 27, 2012

So you think that when Roczen finishes 2nd after leading all but one lap that he cant sprint with the U.S riders and he doesnt have the intensity to hang with them? What about the other 38 riders he beat, were they all taking it easy those days? What about the des nations when Roczen beat Baggett in both motos? Roczen isnt a sand specialist and Im pretty sure Baggett was trying both motos. I never said the Euros are fast the American, I just said that Herlings will come here and win and Roczen will win the MX2 class in Supercross and Outdoor this year.

Red54m wrote: 8:02pm December 27, 2012

I also found the video boring, though it did look like it would be fun to ride there.

@Euromike, you said the exact samething about Roczen, we all love the kid, we have not claimed him as our own and he really hasn't won anything yet.
Tell me why Herlings will fare any better here than Roczen or Musquin. I am all ears for an educated explanantion.

2 things:
1.-this is one lame video
2.- why Antonio Cairoli has not come to the US?? cuse he know he will be smoked if he did. same thing with this punk. he will take the road back to his semi quietly and without the trash talk he does in Europe

Profile Picture

@Ronnie Barnhardt Roczen is one year older than Herlings. They may even be the same age.I guess you only have to be 14 to run the GP's.The only reason he won is because the other two weren't there.

Sand specialist is a loose term to begin with. To consider past races in the state's makes any argument void.
Bottom line, I would love to inclement this style of track to my practice schedule. I would work my butt off to get to these guys speeds and sense of comfort on a track such as this.
You're watching the champ do his thing. Take notes if you wish. If the answers no, I'll be happy to throw a friendly roost your way as I go by.

Herlings is the 250 World Champ and the best sand rider around. Townley, Pourcel, Ratray, Musquin and Roczen are World Champs that came over to the US and raced against our kids in the 250 class. They have not had an easy time winning championsips over here. That may change soon as Roczen & Musquin are getting faster and learning alot. It's great to have them over here. Hopefully Herlings will come race in the US some day.

If you wanna practice it's gonna be in the sand.
Cant you just appreciate watching the skills of one of the worlds best sand riders?
I too would rather watch this than some all air-time whip fest with rap music!

I dont think the US riders are to worried about Herlings .. For one he probably wont come here, and two we have heard it all before, the GP Champs are coming to own the US Nationals.. None have won a title yet.. Not Pourcel, Rattrey, Searle, Roczen Musquin.. None of them, and they all said the same, wait until so and so gets here.. Well we are waiting..

If you yanks pulled your head out your asses and looked at other countries geographically, it may answer why he is riding sand this time of year - it's rained for about a month here. All tracks are shut, including most of the sand tracks which is probably why they are riding a private place.
