Supercross Season Preview to Air on CBS
Friday, December 14, 2012 | 5:00 PMAURORA, Ill. – Feld Motor Sports® announced today that CBS will air the 2013 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, season preview show Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. ET as part of the CBS Sports Spectacular programming. The 60-minute preview show will provide fans an inside look at the highly anticipated 2013 Monster Energy Supercross season that opens Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif.
“We are on the brink of one of the most exciting, parity-filled, seasons ever,” said Dave Prater, director of supercross, Feld Motor Sports. “CBS will capture the essence of the upcoming 2013 Monster Energy Supercross season, on December 22nd, through the top riders and teams in this 60-minute special before the season begins in Anaheim.”
CBS Sports will broadcast a total of nine hours of Monster Energy Supercross in 2013, including five 450SX Class races, the season preview show, the midseason show, the year-end show and a special on two-time defending Monster Energy Supercross Champion Ryan Villopoto.
The entire 2013 Monster Energy Supercross Championship’s television package will be announced next week.
Two-time defending champion Villopoto hopes to become just the fourth rider in the sport’s history to win three consecutive 450SX Class Championships. If successful, he will join Bob Hannah, Jeremy McGrath and Ricky Carmichael in this elite category, but the path to victory will not be easy. For the first time in 40 years of racing, a record 10 riders will line up at the starting gate with Main Event wins to their name, including current champion Villopoto, Ryan Dungey, James Stewart, Chad Reed, Kevin Windham, Trey Canard, Davi Millsaps, Josh Hill, Josh Grant and Andrew Short.
Highlighting the group are former 450SX Class Champions Dungey (’10), Stewart (’07 & ’09) and Reed (’04 & ’08). Two-time 250SX Class Champion Justin Barcia, who recently won the Monster Energy Cup, will make his 450SX Class debut, adding to the parity of the season. Windham enters his 17th season of racing with 18 450SX Class wins, second on the all-time start list with 204 and has finished in the top five in nine seasons.
New this year will be the Dodge/Sycuan Casino/Suzuki/Bel-Rey team, led by 15-time AMA National Champion Ricky Carmichael and freestyle motocross icon Carey Hart, featuring riders Hill and Broc Tickle. Also, Stewart will make his Monster Energy Supercross debut aboard his new team, Yoshimura Suzuki, in pursuit of becoming just the second rider in history to win 450SX Class Championships on three different brands.
Also, after a five-year hiatus, Monster Energy Supercross will welcome back the KTM Junior Supercross Challenge (KJSC) to the 2013 season at select races. Over the years, some of the top riders have competed in the KJSC, including Ryan Dungey, Mike Alessi and Eli Tomac to name a few.

Check out LAST NIGHT
in our Latest issue of Racer X available now.Ryan Villopoto may have locked up his 450SX title a week early, but the 2013 Monster Energy Supercross Championship finale still had drama and excitement to spare. Page 124.

Sounds like an upgrade from last year when it was on Christmas day right?
I hope they don't mess with the announcing team of Jeff, Ralph, and Erin.
Ralph and Erin produce some of the best unintentional comedy on tv.
MAN I CAN'T WAIT!!! 3 weeks till A1 at least we have this show to look forward to next weekend.
I'd be willing to suffer through another year of Ralph if it meant we could get a restraining order against Brett Michaels...
RHRHMOP: I say "BRING BACK DAVE DISPAIN"!!!
Ralph the elite. If someone could do his job better they'd have it. That's how the free market works. Hard work pays off, and if it doesn't, Ralph can get you a job writing a SX into song. It's all about hard work and free markets, so stop hatin on Ralph you F'in commies!
At least half of this show will be the same footage as the SX Year In Review show, but that's OK. Some people's memory obviously need refreshing.
I'm OK with Ralph, all the by the time I hear him mention the Rock hard Ride Award award for the 20th time, I throw up just a little each time. I hope Brett pays good money for all the publicity he gets out of that.
I like Tiffany better than Erin on the sideline. She wasn't trying to be the story, and wouldn't start each question with a painfully obviously statement, trying desperately to appear knowledgeable. The track changes as people ride on it. Who knew?
i like jeff and ricky when they take shots at each other i think it prob bothers jeff a little
@b787tech
dude, you are so butt-hurt it isn't even funny...nothin to hate about and yet you find reason...lame
lame
lame
I too like Tiffany better than Erin on the sideline. Erin on the sideline reporting is getting old time for a change. As for Ralph he needs to go can't Jeff do the commentary himself.
Poor Ralph. I've always liked him and feel he makes the races exciting because you can just feel how excited he is talking about them.. So what if he says things like the faster man on the planet, rock hard award etc etc, he makes it fun with his emotion instead of being clinical.
feld can suck di$k kick some money to the riders so they can make aliving risking serious injury for the bennafit$$$$$$ of feld ent. point funds with real reverse scale pay outs/ insurance at events pension fund! fuc# off feld.
Nothing is worse than the days of Jeff emigs gay obsession with kawasaki and especially James Stewart. Every comment was biased and Gay with James. Then he licks his lips every five minutes. Being with Ricky is good cuz Ricky can trash talk cuz he was way better.
Ricky is the most irritating by far @ darth I`d like to see you call Emig gay to his face internet tough guy
Just say NO to SX, and YES to MX
All internet flaming aside, it's going to be a great SX season no matter what you spodes choose to fight about from your arm chairs. Field isn't perfect, nothing is! I'm just glad we get to see the best in the world every week in our living room.
Get a glue and be thankful. Back in the day we got a 8 month delayed USGP and that was all the MX/SX we got to see on TV.
@Lilnuts2 - I agree. Every race on TV, live or a few days later is great. Not only was the USGP delayed, their expert commentator was a car racer. I liked Jackie Stewart's enthusiasm, but we would say some pretty funny things. I remember saying how Schultz's feet went "flying off the stirrups" and they rode the dirt on the side (the dug-in berm) like a "wall of death". And he referred to Jeff Ward as a Scottish lad, even though I think he moved to California when he was an infant. Good times.
Lets hope nobody gets injured .... then i think we will see great racing.
My prediction:
RD
RV
JB
CR
Weimer
I don't know which I like most between SX and MX racing, but I love having 8 out of 12 months filled with US pro dirt bike racing! There is more-or-less one reason I'm willing to fork out the money for Cable - it is AMA pro dirt bike racing.
Some random thoughts... It seems like the most influential wildcard in SX is injury, and the most influential component of SX racing is the start. Regardless, I watch every race looking for that epic battle and surprise result...and then I watch it again a few more times to be reminded of what I watched. Love the JS/RD/RV/CR battles. Love when KW schools the field and makes everyone else look sloppy. Look forward to what Tomac, Cannard, and Barcia will do to the field. I'm hoping RC's new team can mix it up. I'm pumped!
Put Matthes in the booth, that would make things interesting. Haha
