Down Under: Reed Confirmed for AUS SX

Tuesday, October 16, 2012 | 10:35 AM
Chad Reed and his TwoTwo Motorsports outfit are excited to confirm they will contest the three remaining rounds of the Terex Australian Supercross Championships with Reed’s first home appearance as an owner/rider to come in less than a fortnight.

Reed’s 2013 race machine – the powerful new Honda CRF450R – plus parts and supplies are packaged and set for air freight to the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit which will host the series’ second round alongside the AirAsia Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix on October 26 and 27.

Following this, Reed will race at Toowoomba before heading to his home-town, Newcastle, which will hold the final event on the calendar.

Reed’s Australian campaign will serve him well as the team strives to develop the new Honda race bike in preparation for the Monster Energy AMA Supercross opener in the second week of January.

“I’m really excited to confirm that I’ll be heading home for what will be my first Australian appearance under my own TwoTwo Motorsports banner.

“Taking the Championship to Phillip Island is a big task and a significant move forward for the sport, when I first heard the news I was both surprised but encouraged by the direction.

“We’d originally planned to make a trip home to be spectators at the event and spend time catching up with friends and family but the opportunity to race at such an amazing circuit along with MotoGP was one I couldn’t pass up.

“We saw it as a good chance to race and test the 2013 bike and then felt it would be a significant investment for only a single race so decided to extend it to both Toowoomba and Newcastle.

“It’s a win-win for me – I get to race at home, launch the awesome new 2013 Honda, test and develop the bike against guys I consider world-class competitors, catch up with my friends and family and get to spend some time with the guys in the MotoGP paddock as well.

“I spend a bit of time on social media too and noticed that the Aussie fans were really rallying behind the Championships’ campaign to bring me back to race – it’s hard to find fans as passionate as these guys and I really do value the support and feedback.”

Round 2 of the Championship, Reed’s first race on Australian soil since a victorious one-off appearance in 2010, will be held on Saturday October 27 as part of the AirAsia Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island.

Entry to the Supercross precinct is open to any ticket holder.

Round 3 will be held at the Toowoomba Showgrounds on Saturday November 10, with the fourth and final round to be held at the Newcastle Showgrounds on Saturday November 17.

Reed will make his return to racing this weekend, lining up to contest the $1m Monster Energy Cup in Las Vegas against some of the sport’s best.

How things change in 1 year, Last year Reed wanted nothing to do with the MEC or any other races and even made fun of the Mill at the MEC saying he does not need it ECT now this year he is all over everthing!!

.I hope he is ready for A1 along with all the other top guys. Could be a great year, Better then 2011 if they all stay healthy with JB and DW and myebe ET??

BillC,

He is probably wanting to do everything because he missed so much racing after his injury. I assume he accepts the fact that if he didn't do any racing he would be way behind come A1.

BillC Yes, a new year and a new attitude...Coming off the year he had in 2011, Reed seemed kinda of burnt out, in need of time to re-charge and re access his program. It worked, as he was looking very good before his tumble in Dallas. This year, coming back from injuries, being on a new model and knowing the stiff competition he will face in 2013, Chad probably feels the race testing will serve him well, plus the best way to sharpen your race skills is to race. Reed is a wily veteran of the sport and knows what works for him. Bottom line, like you said: As long as he shows up ready for A1....

Everyone seems to forget that he said before he got hurt that he was retiring and told no won, leading up to his crash..........So if he Bow Wows this year............I see him as a owner only !!!!!!!!!!

Now is the time of year that I cringe every time a big name rider enters some race before AMA Supercross starts. Every year we have what looks to be possibly the best SX season ever....and then....the injury reports start coming in. Durham is the first I guess.

I live in Germany now. When I fly back home to A1, I want everybody healthy and on the gate.

Anyone know where I can watch Monster Cup online here?

Just got back from a 3 week vacation which started with the MXON.
I knew we would need some serious luck after I saw that track (and the Sat qualifiers). There is nothing like that track in the US...I have never seen sand like that....not Pismo, not Glamis, nothing in FL, not even that beach race in AC NJ (where J-Law smoked everybody). I walked the Lommel track....it is very very different.
I went back and read some of the comments on here after the MXON articles.....Anyone who says our guys let us down etc is an idiot....I was very proud of our effort.....another couple weeks (maybe days) riding there and our guys would have won. I am not saying they would have beat Herlings though....he was insanely fast there.....and maybe not Cairoli either.....but the overall.

I took alot of abuse while there....due to my American flag cape.....was quite funny.

The fans were insane ....so loud...they had huge air compressors hooked up to horns that sounded like a cruise ship horn....when Stefan Everts walked the track they went crazy....I have never heard that kind of noise at any sporting event....was really nuts......

Tuetenschal is about 2.5 hours from my house here......we will smoke everyone there next year.....although I heard a rumor that there are hundreds of dump trucks moving sand from Lommel to Tuetenschal already...lol

@Bobby125.....you are correct, I do not remember CR22 announcing his retirement....however, if he "Told no won" as you put it; it makes sense that everyone would seem to forget.....LOL....stop making sense!

I think Reed's flip flop on the MEC is part of his evolution as a team owner.

Initially he was of the attitude that I'm doing this my way and F everyone and now is realizing all the ass kissing corporate mumbo jumbo that is a necessity to make his team effort a success.

Kewl that he's going to his homeland and race for his fans.

@Grifter....We didn't need "serious luck" at the MXDN this year. We got on the podium as is ......we just needed Bamm Bamm to not force a pass at the wrong time. Bamm Bamm's mistake wasn't bad luck but rather bad judgement!....just sayin.

@griffter, thanks for onsite recap! Wish I was there....

@motoxdoc....yeah, I was standing right there all weekend....same corner everything happened....Barcia crash in qualifier (w/Chuck Sun lifting up fence... which disqualified him)....Barcia crash when front spokes broke out of wheel (aparrently from slammimg into Ken Dedyker I think)....Barcia trying to get going with front wheel locked....Barcia passing Dungey (all same corner) and getting all squirelly causing Dungey to get on brakes....and thus get all squirelly and crash....

Every time an American crashed there, the fans went absolutely nuts....I then suffered massive abuse from all around me....there were like 20 Brits on top of a tractor trailer behind me....one of them had a police type loudspeaker megaphone deal....he would use it to bust my stones every time....it was actually pretty funny as it was all in fun....(I think it was helpfull that I am a 247 pound body builder type of guy).....he kept saying "hey, Steve Austin, what just happened to your boy Barcia?" and similar stuff....I would tell him "you guys are just lucky I can't get up there" etc

Its great to see Reed coming back to the motherland.

My prediction for Phillip Island race Reed gets holeshot, Marmont & Reed get tangled up half way through & Bopping takes the lead and wins!

Than next season Reed offers Bopping ride for 22 motorsports

Many of us have been saying that for years and he's still going strong lol
He just doesn't want to say die and maybe that is why he is so successful
as a racer.

No offense but this is the last yr Chad and STEWART get to win a championship. They are old school now and im rooting for either CHad or JS to win bcoz we know its thier last. Honestly I think JS7 is done and if he keeps getting on the ground then he will quit suzuki and retire mid season. The part that sucks is that he is 26 or so and now he has the rest of his life to plan a career. Its hard when all you have known is twisting the throttle. If I was Chad or JS I would do GP over in Euro just to keep fresh and motivated. Sometimes it helps to get away from the usual scene and its a win win for both. JS7 gets to race Cairolli and gets more euro fans.

@dgizzy1

They may be old school, but any of these guys could still win a championship straight up with just a little luck. What happened to Chad outdoors and indoors was just plain bad luck as he was flying. People quickly forget how many motos he won outdoors before his Millville launch into space. The dude was fast and gave headaches to RV and RD right up until then. . Didn't anyone notice after the Millville race how elated RD and RV were? They were so pumped that he crashed that they literally couldn't contain themselves.
