From American Motocross:
One of the biggest stories of last year's offseason was Ryan Dungey, the 2010 champion of the 450 Class, taking a leap of faith to join Red Bull KTM. With a few of the heavy hitters sidelined, the 2012 season was set up to be a showdown between Dungey and James Stewart.
Everything changed at Thunder Valley though, and Dungey ripped off ten overall wins in a row to recapture the #1 plate. Relive the highs and lows of an incredible season for Dungey that included intense battles with Mike Alessi, a pit stop at Southwick, and the first Lucas Oil Pro Motocross title for KTM.

After watching the Des Nations, it really becomes obvious how much Ryan rides sitting down. We all know Dungey needs to convince Carmichael the farm needs a whooped out sand track to force him off his arse a little more just in case the conditions are extra nasty.
Congrats to Ryan and KTM, with Decoster at the helm, they made a great team this year. Dungey is a class act, he never talks smack, only focuses on improving himself and the task at hand. He combines the cunning of a fox, the tenacity of a wolverine, the heart of a lion and the speed of a cheetah to morph into the Locomotive of Motocross.
It is a shame that Dungey will always here the "what if birds", cooing he could not win if __ were racing. The young man has worked his tale off to become one of the elite at his trade. He may not be the best interview or the most exciting rider on the track, but he is the most consistent rider we have today and that will win you championships, regardless of who you line up against.
I am a fan of RV 2(the Firecracker), CR 22(the Vet), JS 7(the Gambler), TC 41(Mr Nice Guy), but I have to give credit where credit is due, so helmets off and respect for RD 5, the 2X Champion of the Great Outdoors!!!

......and I say don't speak for me! I don't want people to think I'm an idiot too!
Being a Dungey fan, I`m pumped on how this summer went. Hard work and sacrifice always pays off in the end, and Ryan is proof of that.
Ryan certainly deserved the championship and I also have a lot more respect for Mike Alessi as well, it shows that being focused on a goal and working toward it pays off. Supercross is awsome to watch, but I love the blood and guts of Motocross and the cream of the crop will always find a way to win...
Thank you for keeping the music below 11 on this one.
@BlueStallion87, Sure a several national champion like Ryan Dungey needs advice from a guy like you...
Ryan is the best exemple for our sport ! GO RD5 !!!
RD is just awesome.
Dungey is the man!
Nemfromfrance, i guess you didn't see what happened at the MXDN this year!! YOu better check yourself cause your stupid!!! BlueStallion87 was noticing like everybody else the EXTREME spanking Dungey got on a rough track!!
So mabey if Dungey practiced on a rough track he wouldn't be destroyed again!!!!
WOW those tracks are so smooth i could drive a corolla around it!!
Dungey will have some bike set up specs to go by going into most races in 2013 that he didn't have this year. Look out......
@canadianmxfan Ya just like Roczen got spanked in 32 out of 34 races he did this year on such easy smooth tracks. Not only spanked but straight up embarrassed. I love the replay of Barcia whipping it right past his face as he passed him. How many times can you get passed on the last lap. lol Please Dungey took Cairoli by 22secs at Colorado. So just because Dungey had one bad day doesn't mean he got a extreme spanking. That is what Roczen got all year in the AMA!
RD will be remembered as the man that got his butt kicked in the motocross of nations.
Dungey did not have one of his best days, it happens, sometimes we forget he is human. I don't think he will be remembered the way Claxton suggests, except by a few of his critics. Ryan's past and future accomplishments will over shadow one bad day in the spot light.
Have Dungey's critics already forgotten that he is a multi time MXDN champion? Wow, he has 1 bad day and that's all you guy's can talk about!
wasn`t Dungey almost lapped at mxdn
mxracer972 i don`t remember Roczen getting lapped, didn`t roczen beat dungey at mxdn.....
all i want is the ama to stop groooming the tracks so much so the local us boys don`t get spanked everytime the track gets rough...
what you dungey lovers forget is dungey does not win every moto he enters in mxdn....last year his best was 3rd place and Roczen beat dungey as well that year
canadianmxfan My memory is not what is used to be, but it seems Ryan finished 2nd to Villopoto in the MX1- MX3 race... Roczen did indeed beat Dungey as did Reed in the MX1-MX 2 race. The first moto was a bit muddy and slick, Roczen did a great job. I think the Euros sand and mud skills are superior to the riders state side, as they deal with it more. Also Dungey is not a risk taker, he was just going to do what was best for the team.
I do agree with you, the tracks do not need to be groomed in between motos. They need to be rougher, as that is the point of motocross. Supercross, with 17 races a year, has become a big factor. Our riders spend so much time practicing that style of racing and outdoor promoters continue to add those style obstacles and smooth the tracks, it has hurt our skills on the true outdoor courses. Though both are raced on motocross motorcycles they are two separate sports and should remain different.
In my opinion, that is why Americans have better supercross skills and Euros have caught up in the outdoors... it is the darned ole step sister supercross's fault...
