We set out to race Round 1 of the Florida Gold Cup Series at Gatorback Cycle Park in Gainesville, FL on a 1994 CR500 in the +25 class. Ian bought the bike 2 weeks before hand off of craigslist, and got to ride the bike a total of 10 minutes before the big day. This is how the racing unfolded.

I rode BB 2-Strokes from the 80's up until '03. I've NEVER had a banjo bolt come loose. Truly bizarre.
I had a '94 KTM 550MXC that would holeshot every time...in 3rd gear.
Very cool, looks like a great idea to take a trip down memory lane!
I miss MY 1988 CR500! And MY 93 KX 500,and my 81 490 MAICO,and my 83 CR480,and MY 90 CR500,and my 84 CR500,and my 82 CR480,and my 85 CR 500 (kinda-not really).
Only owned three of those bikes, but got too race them all.
And flogged em all!
3rd gear is the only way to holeshot a five-OH,OH!
Too bad the only tool he had was the one riding the bike and not any for doing maintenance on it.
That was a cool-ass video man, thank you for making it. As the owner of many 500's of the past - this totally validated my love and disdain for those bikes. The starting of the bike alone was enough to get arm pump.
Cool video. Anytime a 2T is involved I am down.
This cat needs to learn that this isnt a 250 2T. Ian (I think that's his name) is riding at least a gear too low. Upshift & use the torque of the motor. Much easier to ride, it's faster & less vibes 'cause of the lower revs.
As a side note: Gatorback is the last place I raced this spring. 83 CR250 in AHRMA 250A/+50A. Bad concussion 3/4 a lap into my first moto. I haven't raced since...
Ive seen Ian ride many times locally and he is an awesome rider. I thought it was great to see him take a 15 year old unprepped craigslist bike and race it at a race as big as the Gold Cup Series just to have a good time. Nice that some people know that riding is still supposed to be fun. Tim Ferry seemed to enjoy it too.
Thanks Ian, Having ridin Gatorback a few times and having just ridin the Sleepy Hollow all 2 stroke race in Pa last weekend on a 96 CR250 I enjoyed this. I gotta find me an ol CR500 to play on.Timmy a class act as always and keep havin fun guys cause if your doin it for any other reason than to have fun it's the wrong one! Of course it's always more fun if you win!
This guy is my hero. I plan on racing a 85 cr250 in 2013 . Tearing it down right now. I cant wait!
I must be getting old, I recall the 500 2 strokers sounding much meaner, That gal sounded like my wragged out RM250? Looked like big fun though, great to see Timmy out there havin fun. I recall those cr 500's to dish out alotta broken femors, I happened to be at the practice track, when a bud did his.
