haven't seen the race yet but from the video the track actually doesn't look as sandy as the practice videos show. I expected rutted and whooped out jumps but they look pretty hard pack.
This is not Lommel and the MXoN... this Faenza and the World championship!
Wrong Link
Ummmm.... yeah, wrong race guys.

Whoa, whodathunk that one..."EuroMike" Nobody in all of USA can say you didn't try to warn us.
It's not to late to run for President, you have 5 weeks to, "Get er Done"
Touche! ;~}}}
You can't win them all. I wish Antonio Cairoli would come to america to race the outdoors!! He's soo fast!! I think he would do well. Come on Antonio, 2013 outdoors??? Roger, work your magic!!!!
@dennisa291...Cairoli, just like Stefan Everts, will never come to race the US Nationals. Stefan Everts was quoted as saying " it is better being a big fish in a little pond, instead of being a little fish in a big pond". Just like Everts, Cairoli is a "god" in European MX with 5 world titles. He would be (and agrees) that he would be a fool to go somewhere where this "god like status" would be no-existent.
This is to take nothing away from Cairoli, or Everts, as they are both European GOATS. Just as neither of them have, or will, come to the US.....it can be said the same about RC, RD, JS, Hannah, Jeff Stanton,Wardy, etc......going to Europe after dominating the US nationals. Only Bad Brad lived and raced, finally winning a World Championship, and Danny LaPorte doing the same.....
Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda means squat. Cairoli, Everts are true fast champions, but don't expect TC to ever come to the US, just like RC never went to Europe.
Thats why there needs to be an equivalent of the Trns-AMA series of the 70's. But in its place there is the annual MXdN. The USA has won 22 of the last 31.
I'd say that US racers are the faster of the two continents.
NO IFS, ANDS, OR BUTS ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!
OOOpes....Cairoli has 6 world titles..... and too bad for the USA with respect to the Ryder Cup. Totally chocked while leading the Euros...the Euros rallyied and beat down the USA, with of all golfers, A GERMAN, who made the winning putt.
Hows that for coincidence (or karma?).....
did u see how cairolli dropped the bike after he won. I'd like to know how it felt man. He must have felt like superman. they dont even show much here i wondered what that was about earlier today watching it live.
Oh well congrats Germany but they will get spunked next yr at their home track no doubt.
BAGGET GOT SMOKED.
After watching the race live in Lommel and having seen the replay of the race on tv these are my conclusions:
First time in years the mxon is on a rough track and USA barely makes it on the podium
No matter what happens at the next mxon comming years, the top GP guys won't get lapped like Barci and Bagget.
Antoni Cairoli can hang with Dungey on a fast racetrack, but is way faster on a rough or sand track. This makes him the most complete racer of outdoor tracks
If US riders come over to race a GP season they won't win because they can't handle a rough racetrack, so stop saying that Cairoli or Herlings have to come over to prove themselves... why not bring some top us riders over here??? same thing.
Herlings fell on the first lap of the last race and climbed up to second place and was a minute in front of Barcia! No one will be a minute in front of Herlings in the next mxon...so you can all you want about next year this or that...but the GP guys will be much closer to the front!
Even if the US win all three races next year at the mxon, the will not be minute in front or lap the top GP riders...
@bartster - I think at Glen Helen they will be. GH is a real motocross track, not a sand pit. Herlings and the lot are most certainly sand specialists, there's no doubt about that now. Our boys are motocross specialists. If it were the sandbox des nations I have no doubt the GP riders would have the upper hand every year
@ SpottyMarley
But Herlings beat RV at last years MXoNs on a 350 that was stuck in 3rd gear. That track was hardpack.
theped26- What classes did Herlings race last year? Was it the same as RV? I only wonder because I remember watching the last moto and RV was in front and RD was in second and they came across the line together pretty far out ahead of everyone else. Just curious because I have seen you say this several times and I didn't know they were in the same class.
BTW congrats to the Germans and Belgians on the 1 and 2 positions respectivly. Love Ken Roczen and he was hauling ass. Also Herlings is amazing same as Anthony Caroli. Looking forward the challenge next year and definitely want to make it across the pond to experience a MXON sometime in my life time. You guys really get into it and I am going to see it in person someday.
thePed26... is was a mud race last year in that moto, and RV came from way back in the pack. If memory serves me correctly inthe final dry moto, RV and RD were gone and took overall individual titles.
Herlings is a great rider, and a master in the sand. But to start spewing that he is a better overall rider that RV is jumping the gun a bit much. Musquin, as well as Roczen had Herlings covered before they left for over here. Herlings will be in the US soon, and we will see how he "dominates".
Maybe it's time to have the 450 class race last in the Nat's....like they used to. bums me out to see them grooming the track in the US. Probably wouldn't have made a difference yesterday, but it would have given us a chance to pick up a spot here or there.
Congrats to the Euro's, but the USA losing on the sand track of all sand tracks that a few of the GP riders frequent doesn't erase the history of the event where Americans have dominated the GP riders tons of times. By the way, I'm not American, it's just the truth! The world and the fastest Euros know where the highest calibre racing in our sport is, it's pretty evident.
Well congrats to our boys, they fought hard in the deep sand. This isn't our backyard, so I knew we'd have problems. Our boys don't ride sand like this like AC222 and JH84. This is their home track and hats off to them, they know how to ride it. I'll give Jeffrey the title of the Sandman. Hes faster than Cairoli since he came from dead last and caught his rear wheel. Looked like Cairoli's teammate put a little block pass on him and stopped his charge. I'm sure he was outta gas by then!
@ buckeyeracer104
Here are the results from last year.

Sorry it takes you to this years results for some reason. Click on the top left to get the 2011 results.
@theped26 yeah Race 3 MX1 and open
Vilipoto 1st Place
Dungey 2nd Place
So I am not sure what your point is. I see in the other race Herlings beat Vilipoto but the other race Vilipoto beat him by 26 secs and you didn't reference him being stuck in 3rd that race. As someone else said that was in the mud and mud can really equalize the field just as the sand did this year. Apparently our guys are not as good in those conditions. Like I said congrats to the Germans and Belgians. Cairoli and Herlings are absolute beasts. I don't think our guys could compete with them on tracks like that without extensive prep and lets face it they probably don't have enough time to preprare for those. Next year I think it will be closer but it won't be easy. I still look forward to it every year though. Love watching the all of the best racers out on the same track.
@ Motohead279
It didn't say Herlings was a better rider overall than RV. I was trying to point out Herlings can ride harpack very well.
Musquin rode against Jeffrey when Herlings was 15yrs old, 1st year in GPs. And with K Roc, he had more experience than Herlings because he had already done a 3/4 year more in GPs.
I'm not sure who said he would "dominate" in the US but I know, as you all know, he would dominate at Southwick. He would probably lap up to the podium.
I don't know that he wouldn't dominate at Southwick because he very well may but it is not the same type of sand as Lommel. It used to be much deeper but seems they put a base under it or mixed in some clay. It doesn't get the ruts and bumps like Lommel does from what I have seen. So he would probably clean up and win I doubt he would lap up to the podium. Then again Dungey started 3/4 of a lap down last year and came all the way up to 7th. Herlings would probably do well and win there I just wouldn't go as far to say he would lap up to the podium without seeing it first.
@ buckeyeracer104
Ok, so he beat Herlings by 26 secs on a hardpack track. On a sand track, Herlings would be ahead by over a minute. The point I'm trying to make is the advantage that RV, RD and ,say, JS7 would have over Herlings on hardpack is nowhere near as big as an advantage Herlings would have on a sand track.
@ buckeyeracer104
Ok he wouldn't dominate by that much. He has said the looser the ground the bigger advantage he has, so Southwick isn't as deep. Hopefully he'll go over there to race that National.
@ALL_USA_FANS
Teutschenthal is a track in a pit - great view about 70% percent of the track - elevation is like 200 ft.
Germany can be wet that time of the year though - so bring your coats and warm clothing - just in case.
I'll be there - any visitor from the u.s. can ask me for guidance @spike1911 on twitter - you're all more than welcome here! :-D
Yeah I would love to have him and cairoli come over and race that race. I would try to make it there to see it in person. He is definitely very very good and probably the best in the world.
Any word if he plans to come over and ride here on any of the nationals? That is the closest thing to a sand track we have in the states really.
@spike Man would I love to go there. Family is of German descent and always dreamed of going there and like I said somewhere else I WILL make it to Europe for a Des Nations race but I doubt next year will happen. I doubt I will be able to afford to travel and stay there but someday I will make a trip to see how the best of the world party and watch motocross! Congrats to team Germany btw.
@ped Also to further this disscusion a little on RV if you go back to the 2007 results and look at the lap times and how far ahead RV finished ahead of everyone else @ Budds Creek you can see he does have that ability to be that kind of difference at least at a track he has raced at and has success at just as Herlings has at Lommel. He lapped up to 11th the same as Herlings and Cairoli did at Lommel. So I think a lot of it are tracks they are used to, you know what I mean? Last year they were at Saint-Jean-d'Angély, France a track most of your riders had all rode before where ours hadn't rode before.
It is what it is they have to race everywhere and our riders just weren't good enough this year. Still love to watch the races though. LIke I said seeing the best racers in the world go against each other is awesome.
I´ll be there next year for sure!! Not gonna be as sick as this year though, but still the greatest race of the year!
Saw that Herings went down the first turn of the last race, and he managed to pass everybody, exept for Cairoli, in like 3 laps! Otherwise, he would probably have won by a minute or something!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vplAoo9OINg
There was word Herlings would do Southwick this year, if he had wrapped up the MX2 tiltle, but Searle was still quite close so it was decided he wouldn't go.
It has been confirmed he will race the annual beach race over here in the UK at Weston Super Mare in October. David Knight has won there a lot so Herlings may has some competition. It's a 3 hour race with Pros, ranging down to local hackers.
I loved seeing the face of the American riders getting destroyed!!!! hahahah
I was watching another video showing Mitch Payton telling the reporters that he
was not worried at all because his riders are the best in the world, hahahahah.
The Americans are the best in the world in the U.S : )
@ Pitbull
On the review video above at 2.45 when Herlings overtakes Barcia, watch Herlings sitbounce/wheelie on the next jump to hop over the bumps just before the clip cuts to another scene. That's where Herlings & Cairoli make up so much time. They are basically dancing their way around the track.
I give Herlings and Cairoli credit!! they can ride that sand pit track.
I compare it to watching top 10 pros show up at Dade City MX and get smoked by the local Dade City warriors that can't qualify for an outdoor on a real track!!
Was hoping team USA could still pull through under the circumstances.
Until next year
@ Woww lets calm your jets just al ittle bit fella. Yeah they got smoked at Lommel but don't forget about the past 7 years 5 of which were on YOUR tracks. Don't forget RV lapping Cairoli at Budds creek and being 1:05 secs in front of second place. So apparently you can't win if it's not a deep sand track seen no where else.
As I have said countless times on here I don't know why people were so confident going into this race. This is a track we have not seen and as Decoster said got 3 practice sessions on before qualifying and that was it. Congrats to Germany and Beligum for 1st and Second. Love Ken Roczen. Freaking Herlings and Cairoli are beasts in the sand hats off to them but lets not get too far ahead of yourself, like I said we won 7 in a row 5 of them in Europe only 2 here.
You're delusional Woww.......check the record books and reality, the Americans and their series is the best in the world overall, and I'm not American neither. Cairoli and Herlings cleaned up in their backyard like expected on one weekend, what about every other year?
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu@k me... look at it logically.
Lets start with the fact that despite being sandy, it is a motocross track. People always say Southwick is so sandy, rough and unpredictable. So no excuses there.. It was lost, boohoo, gain it back next year.
Next, look at the money in US sport, there is so much funding, the sport is bigger, so you can expect a lot of good riders, especially coming out of 300+ million people. Also such a huge following and lots of land is useful.
Now if we are comparing GPs and AMA then surely a fairer test would be to have US vs Europe vs RoW. Seeing as a lot of the euro teams have 1 or 2 top riders, but never the third to finish the team off. Last year the French had 3 good riders and it was a hell of a lot closer wasn't it!? When you get the top 10 euros and the top 10 US riders, it would be more like that.
Also, RV I'm sure many people would consider is the fastest rider in the world, but notice how there is a skills gap to second, third, etc. It was similar in previous years with RC, one outstanding rider then a gap then the mortals.
And one race to decide it.. really?! Just leave it at the fact both have good racers, both are different series and both should mean as much, albeit you'd be richer in the US....
