Bench Racing Ammo: Silly Season Update

Friday, August 31, 2012 | 3:05 PM

The 2012 season isn't over, but much of the news now centers around 2013. Who is riding where? We've compiled a list of what we know, hear and think about 2013 so far. Keep in mind, it's early, so this is by no means a comprehensive list, and many riders and teams will be filled in as the off-season rolls along--and when that happens, we will give you the news.

American Honda
Trey Canard -  Confirmed
Justin Barcia - Confirmed

Note: Will Justin Brayton stay? He could be headed back to JGR Yamaha--we'll know for sure after Elsinore next weekend.

GEICO Honda
Zach Bell - Confirmed
Justin Bogle - Confirmed
Zach Osborne - Confirmed
Wil Hahn - Confirmed
Eli Tomac - Confirmed
Kevin Windham - Confirmed

Note: Expect amateur recruit Matt Bisceglia to jump to the pros next year after Loretta's, and the team may sign another amateur or two soon.

TwoTwo Motorsports Honda
Chad Reed -- Confirmed (Yes, Chad will re-sign himself)

Chaparral Honda
Andrew Short -- Will enter second year of a two-year deal.

Lucas Oil Troy Lee Designs Honda
Cole Seely - Confirmed
Christian Craig - Confirmed
Jessy Nelson -- Confirmed

Notes: All three will ride Lites West SX, and Seely and Craig will ride 450s outdoors next summer. Unclear if Travis Baker will still have a spot.

Justin Barcia is headed to the 450 Class for 2013.

Monster Energy Kawasaki
Jake Weimer -- Confirmed
Ryan Villopoto -- Several teams took a look at RV (of course) but it looks like he will be back with his current employer.

Pro Circuit Kawasaki
Blake Baggett - Confirmed
Darryn Durham - Confirmed
Martin Davalos - Confirmed

Notes: Dean Wilson is heading to the 450s with Jeff Ward Racing, and Broc Tickle will probably move to another 450 team. One more PC 250 spot remains for next year, we're hearing amateur names possibly linked to it.

Jeff Ward Racing Kawasaki
Dean Wilson - Confirmed
Josh Grant - Has a two-year deal

Note: Not sure if Kyle Chisholm will return or have to look elsewhere.

Yoshimura Suzuki
James Stewart -- Confirmed
Brett Metcalfe -- Two-year deal with the team is up, but we hear they are talking about a return for 2013.

Rockstar Suzuki
Jason Anderson -- Confirmed
Blake Wharton -- Confirmed
Davi Millsaps (450s indoors and out) -- Confirmed
Nico Izzi (Lites SX and 450 outdoors) -- Confirmed
Ryan Sipes -- Confirmed

undefined
Jake Weimer will be back with Kawasaki for 2013.
Simon Cudby photo

MotoConcepts
Mike Alessi -- Confirmed
Jake Canada -- Confirmed

Notes: This team started 2012 as a five-rider squad with Vince Friese, Tommy Weeck and Jeff Alessi. We hear Jeff is off to Europe, not sure on Friese yet. Weeck was SX only with the team.

Red Bull KTM
Ken Roczen -- Confirmed
Marvin Musquin -- Confirmed
Ryan Dungey -- Confirmed

J-Star JDR KTM
Malcolm Stewart -- Confirmed. Mookie just extended his contract.

Note: PJ Larsen is out after two injury-plagued seasons at JDR. Not sure who will be teammates for Stewart yet.

Langston-Witt KTM
Les Smith -- Re-signed for 2013.

Note: Langston-Witt went after Christian Craig but Craig went back to Troy Lee. The team is actively looking for a second rider, but few options remain. We hear they're approaching Brett Metcalfe.

undefined
Jason Anderson will be back with Rockstar Suzuki.
Simon Cudby photo

BTOSports KTM
Michael Byrne -- Confirmed
Matt Goerke -- We hear Goerke, who rode SX for the BTOSports Team in 2012, could be on board full time for 2013.

JGR Yamaha
Justin Brayton -- Not set in stone yet but we're hearing Brayton may be back with the team he rode for in 2010-2011.

Note: This is a two rider team, so even if they sign Brayton, there will be another new recruit.

Star Valli Yamaha
Jeremy Martin -- Confirmed
Kyle Cunningham -- Confirmed

Notes: When Star and Valli merged last year that left them with a lot of riders. How many will they bring back for 2013? They also have amateur Cooper Webb in the ranks for a debut sometime next year.

Hart and Huntington
Lots of rumors surrounding this team, including a potential Suzuki tie-up with Ricky Carmichael's involvement. Broc Tickle has been linked to this outfit. We also hear Josh Hansen may be out. Not sure of status of other 2012 riders Ivan Tedesco, Josh Hill and Kyle Partridge.

Remember, this is not a comprehensive list of every rider and team for 2013--but it's what we know to this date.

Davalos to PC? He has speed, maybe this is what he needs to find that consistency.

Someone needs to give Vann Martin a ride for next year! Kid is fast, fast and a good role model!

Someone's gotta give Phil Nicoletti a deal. Now. He rips.

This appears to be one of the weakest PC Kawi teams I've seen in a long time. In my eyes they only have one real championship threat in Bagget. Davalos has had plenty of opportunities to deliver on his potential and just hasn't. I guess Durham hasn't gotten his opportunity with a real bike outdoors yet, but I just don't see it coming together for him.

Maybe Broc Tickle to KTM as a Dungey team mate???

Barcia to American Honda...

Rockstar Suzuki looks good for the upcoming season. With Izzi riding at a high level and Sipes also surviving those Yamaturds, they could have a strong overall team with Millsaps, Wharton, and Anderson.

Gee this year is not as silly as a lot of the ones we have had in the past? Should make for better racing nnext year. Note I am still trying to get someone to race this 883 Harley Sportster in the open class! Still building it and looking for sponsors.

Someone will have to grab Ben Townley for sure.

@fred ther is a bit about h&h at the end?. @duncanhumm townley is racing full time in australia next year, sucks i would of loved to see him race in the states and give the top guns a shake up!

@warrior.....agreed, probably the weakest since 2002 and 2003 with bonds, sorby, buckelew, walker and brown. it all depends on who else they sign...not a whole lot of guys out there...i'd love to see them give a guy like jake canada a shot....or, it would have been cool to see sipes on PC equip, even though he's been in the lites class for about 100 years. Davolos will be a threat...stamp it!

who is jimmy decotis riding for now???? has he recovered from those bad run of injuries, that kid is quick when he stays upright. geico looks like they let him go, if he fit he should get a ride in 2013, davalos for mitch's team, gee how many chanches does he need to shine , he had some good rides but never consistent .

I am suprised Jake Weimer got to keep his ride with Kawasaki. Thought they were going to sign Dean Wilson. Also i guess Mitch Payton not going to have a 450 team this year.I think he should still have a 450 team Broc Tickle was not that bad this year.

Yeah, that Pro Circuit squad is a real turd-pen next year. I doubt Baggett will do anything, and that Durham is so freaking slow. It still would not be shocking to see Pro Circuit take every 250 title available next year, but the team sucks...... Watch what the threats of violent torture from Mitch Payton do for Davalos. This is like getting the golden ticket from Willy Wonka and now that Mitch has waved his magic wand at him, I expect him to suddenly come alive. It is so comical to hear what some people have rattling around in their heads. I guess if there was no KTM and no GEICO Honda, Mitch could have fielded a team of every 250 talent there is. It's pretty good though that there is more than one good team out there, no? The days where Mitch owned the 250 class and gobbled up every top rider available are over, and it is good.

A make or break season for Davalos, he's got pace so hopefully Mitch Payton can get some consistency in him. Anderson needs to step it up next season, hopefully he'll be at the pointy end of the field and get picked up by Payton for 2014. Rattray would actually be a great fit on a KTM if Langston Witt, or Red Bull KTM could find some cash moneys

Millsaps back on a Suzuki! Will be good to see how he goes when he's not on that Yamaha.

@duncanhumm Ben signed a 2 year deal with Carlton Dry Honda in Australia/ NZ.

WOW Millsaps saying goodbye to Yamaha. That bilke has a lot pple leaving the teams. BTO going to KTM means KTM are growing into trustworthy bikes. In a few yrs they willl dominate

@mxnz, I see Rattray on KTM. Either Witt/Langston or possibly as Dungey's teammate.

why is Wilson leaving P.C. Is it because they can't afford him, a falloutor is he stepping up to 450's ? seems odd.

Hammer, yes Wilson will be on a 450 full time next year. Seeing Pro Ciruit with no 450 rider next year and seeing Jeff Ward Racing getting factory bikes makes me think his team is the heir apparent to be the 450 Kawasaki team in the future.

Jeff Alessi going to Europe? Didn't know they're making "National Lampoon's European Vacation Peart Deux".

Brayton has to be injured. Has to be. The guy dropped more Outdoor anchors than the US Navy during Fleet Week.

Congrats to Zach Osborne and Short's agent: he will give whichever employer another year of 7th O/A even though 2013 will have about 8 more fast guys. It's weird: 350, 450, orange, red, injured, healthy, decimated field or stacked - the Smilin' Assassin is hungry for 7th!

I like the idea of Rattray on a KTM as Dungey teammate,i doubt they have the money to afford him.

#1 if Mitch signed davalos he needs to retire, the fact that martin still even has somebody pay him to get to the races amazes me, I would pay anybody other than that never has and never will been to ride for me. If davalose was a privateer in his own pickup I would charge him double the msrp for any and all products he wanted, the guy has been given to many chances and done nothing with them its high time he does everyone a favor and goes to never be heard from agian. Oh andyes H&H is 100% going to Suzuki with RC being soehow involved and Hanny looking for a new ride again (H&H employees at non moto events like truck races can't keep their mouths shut about next year). Hanny back to PC is a better idea than davalose even getting anybody to pay him to race is.

Hansen should have no problem finding a 450 ride to put in 8 quality heat races and 6 main events....
