Southwick 450 Moto 1 Report
Saturday, August 11, 2012 | 2:00 PMRiding the wave of a six race win streak, and 11 of 12 motos, Ryan Dungey continued his torrid pace in the deep sand of Moto-X 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts. With his moto one win over Mike Alessi—who is one of only two riders to beat Dungey in 2012—Dungey moved one step closer to wrapping up the 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.
Mike Alessi was able to grab the pivotal start in the first moto with Phil Nicoletti, who is making his 450 debut after parting ways with Eleven10 Mods during the two-week break, in tow. Alessi stretched out his lead early, as points leader Ryan Dungey was going to work on Nicoletti. After making quick work of Nicoletti, Dungey began cutting into Alessi’s lead.
Alessi was able to hold Dungey at bay for half the moto, but Dungey proved to be too strong in the latter stages of the race. Alessi would hold on for second with Tommy Hahn rounding out the podium. Local product, Robbie Marshall, took home an impressive fourth with Andrew Short in fifth.

Dungey is the man, winning on a bike that doesn't appear to be handling all that well.
Dowd and Brown in the top TEN!!! thats awesome !!
Endo beat me to it - Dowd in 10th!?! Awesome.
Dungey's rear end was dancing around in the first moto like the first 2 or 3 races this year. I'd say he'll be a lot better in the second one.
That KTM looked a little loose like earlier in the year! Hope they get that straightened out in soon.
First of all the open class, ya I noticed Dunge having trouble. I think they wiill slow down the rebound on the clickers. I am surprized that Hahn was not able to chase down Allesi? Mike was really hauling. The track will be tougher next moto.
250' er I hav etrouble with that cause I did race 125's and I weighed 178 lbs. Any hoooo Tomac rules you could se him talkng to the track! Barcia worked his way up pretty good and Bagget did not turn on the afterburnes yet?
Hey what do I know I only raced this one time, at chiken liks raceway.
What I really liked........was how Zach Bell proved he is the real deal.
I love Dowd and Brown but the fact that they are in the top 10 is a real testament to how depleted the field is and how out of shape some of the "contenders" really. If I was a team manager I would be lighting a fire under some of these guys. It must be humiliating to get smoked by a guy who is almost 50. One can only hope so anyway.
* before his misfortunes of course.
rg807 is right on the money!
16. Josh Hill
Former SX-winner Josh Hill?
Yup, that Josh Hill. 2nd race back after some nasty injuries.
Come on Grant "G-money", time to show what you have left in the tank boss, Alessi shouldn't be schooling you like this, bring it man!!!!
Thought James Stewart was racing today?
Alessi shines outdoors, has in the past as well....It's no big surprise M. Alessi is doing well , it was expected!!!
Ya, whats with all these factory riders way back....Get rid of these guys and get some hungry racers ......IT's a lame series with the DUngey and Alessi show and only Alessi has a shot at beating Dungey....NO one has come close...
Mabey they are all trying to stay healthy for supercross!!!
Looks like business as usual ? I like the Dunge, but his "grab his hat and wiggle it on the podium" tic, drives me batty!!!
USA sending a B Team Ha Ha!
Great first motos!!! You just have got to love Southwick.
Mad props to the rookie, great show in his first ever pro race. Wish he would have been able to finish it.
Guess I can tune in on Tuesday to watch and see if he even rides the second moto.
On that note, I took a few minutes to toss together a webpage to let our voice be heard on how we would like our motocross and supercross covered in the future.
It has a short poll on the front page with three options for you to vote on at this point in time. I added a contact page so that you may give me ideas on other options I may need to add.
Send all the MX/SX fans you know there to have them vote so our voice can be heard!!!

sucks that we have to wait to see moto 2 til tues. congrats to the new winner!(of the moto) I don't want to spoil it for anyone who's trying to hold out.
RATTRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in the 2nd Moto - LOVIN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tired of the same lame a$$ $hit every weekend......Hopefully next year we will have a full gate of contenders....
Next year if we have a "healthy" RV, JS, CR, TR, RD, it will be really interesting!
Hey CrossRut: I like your web page but I was expecting to see a category for "go back to SPEED TV " with both motos at a consistent time each week. Really wish i could have seen this race in person or even on tv. It looks like one of the best so far this year. I will be at Steel City and I am really looking forward to watching my first AMA National live.
Way to give yourself props in moto 1 #32.
Its not bragging if you can back it u.........................oh wait
theres two motos.
Got to love the heart of Robbie Kiniry, Solid second place in the Canadian Nationals, races southwick, finishes ahead of factory boy Weimer and then is going to drive through the night to race in Ottawa ON. Canada on Sunday. Now that is commendable.
@KELSTER
On my way to add it right now
@ crossrut,,they say its due to the olympics coverage on nbcs, but but get ready sunday at 8pm-11pm they are airing the movie any given sunday,,then get ready they re-air any given sunday from 11pm-2am,,cant air the 2nd motos till tues??,,due to the olympics???,,c'mon
I don't understand why fuel tv, cannot run the moto at the same time as nbc or nbc sports at the same time. If you do not have cable and only internet lets say for those people overseas, then why not run simultaneously? I doubt many people overseas can see it live on fuel anyway due to time differences. I had to get up at 6am to watch all the live action from London. I doubt many people can do that unless they are really motoheads. Anyway, props to Alli for the archives! Love that and that is how I watch them now. the live action sometimes drops from my lamea$$ Dell laptop, so the archives are the only way to watch. I miss watching the motos all together and live. It is way better than let's, dare I say, NASCAR! Boring. I like the physicality of moto and the tracks and the fans!
Good M1 ride for THahn but...........................
Might want to hold up on the self props and talking junk in case you back it up with a ................................... 35th ?
