Did i read that correctly??? Moto 2 to be broadcast on Tuesday????? Who the hell agreed to this crap??? This isn't better coverage than we had on Speed.... its worse!

Why dont they let allisports.com or fuel show the second moto. They are not gonna get very many viewers considering everyone will already know what happens by tuesday.

I agree. It's inexcusable. Whoever made the TV deal with NBC ought to be standing on a freeway offramp with a sign that says "I will work for food". Can you imagine any network televising HALF of a NASCAR race on Saturday and the conclusion at 1pm TUESDAY??? The money grubbers that make the decisions do NOT have the best interest of the sport or its fans in mind when they make these TV deals. CBS and NBC are terrible at broadcasting motocross. Look at the coverage this year. NO footage of Stewart's crash at Lakewood, NO footage of any of Baggett's 3 crashes in one moto. Coverage pre-empted by golf. Coverage delayed by a bicycle race. The insistence of NBC to get rid of Erin Bates and their insistence of making us suffer through Jamie Bestwick's lame commentary. I know the "logic" is that NBC would give the sport more "mainstream" exposure, but how will it attract new fans to the sport when they watch on Saturday on one channel and don't even get to find out who won the damn race until 3 days later in the MIDDLE of a weekday??? It's all about $$$! Screw u NBC and screw u AMA.

As indicated in the above schedule it's due to the Olympics - which is way more important to a lot more people than our MX race. I can deal with this once every 4 years...

Profile Picture
Bad_Billy_Robinson wrote: 2:55pm August 10, 2012

NBC obviously knew that they were going to have a scheduling conflict with the olympics going on, so for this one race they could have allowed Fuel to show it or at the very least allow live streaming on allisports.com. It sux having to watch a race you already know the outcome to. its not like its a TV drama series that you get the same enjoyment from no matter when you watch it. This is somthing that is time sensative!!

Pure garbage. I am so sick of the Olympics. To not broadcast the second motos until Tuesday afternoon is just not OK.

fiftyone50 - those sports are in the olympics, thus, they are an olympic sport.....

Don't get to see any of the motos!! SSDD!!!!

Profile Picture
sef154 wrote: 4:41pm August 10, 2012

While I don't enjoy all of the Olympic sports, to call it "pure garbage" or to not understand how HUGELY more important it is to the world than our little motorbike race is so close-minded I can't even explain....

I thought it was odd to see BMX in the Olympics (racing, not tricks), but my next thought was, "This is something that can help make ‘action sports’ (a category we belong to) even more mainstream." If you want better coverage, this is what has to happen. So in the big picture, this can be viewed as a good thing.

I, too, would like to see the races sooner (though I'll see it live), but the rage that comes through in some of these posts over a two-day wait for races (that most of the world doesn't care about) is unreal.

And once again, each moto is an equal, points-bearing race. There is no equivalent to "half a NASCAR race" or "half a ball game" by showing them on different days. Hey, sponsor the show, and we can all see it live!

Profile Picture

I'll be over it by Tuesday, but at least i get to watch endless coverage of womens volleyball.

Profile Picture
thankful305 wrote: 5:24pm August 10, 2012

People keep crying and complaning. I remember 4-5 years ago we would have to wait a whole week. To be able to see it with 24-48 hours is great. And when its live, thats amazing considering the sport is at the bottom of the payroll compared to other motorsports.

I can totally agree with this crappy t.v. schedule. NBC should not be apart of motocross- its been like this the last couple of years. Supercross season is awesome- as long as its Speed coverage- LIVE on Saturday night- not this 450 on NBC and 250s on Speed crap!
I realize that motocross/supercross are not as well known or celebrated as the Olympics, but come on! One network should carry all the moto, let another network carry live coverage of a lot of sports that people truly do not care much about that really do not carry the thrill/ adrenalin factor that moto does- (guess that's why we only see it every four years)!
Maybe some day Moto/ Supercross will carry the clout that others do i.e. NASCAR (which by the way is THE biggest waste of network programing and sponsor dollars, imo) Indy, NHRA and even rodeo, to be able to be put a little higher on the programming totum pole with major networks that actually schedule other programs around Moto/Supercross!
I mean the Olympics of MX isn't even aired on t.v. live- or at all for that matter!

Profile Picture
sef154 wrote: 6:15pm August 10, 2012

@TheChosen1 - I bet!

"Maybe some day Moto/ Supercross will carry the clout that others do i.e. NASCAR ... Indy, NHRA and even rodeo, to be able to be put a little higher on the programming totum pole with major networks that actually schedule other programs around Moto/Supercross."

First, we do as well or better than NHRA and rodeo. As for having "the clout" of NASCAR, Indy, or ANY major ball sport ... yes, and I'm still waiting for pigs to start flying, too.

cgraham46 wrote: 6:46pm August 10, 2012

@self154- Agreed.
I really do not have anything against the Olympics- just do not have anything for it either.
I guess it's cool that Phelps has never had a job yet he's worth over 40mill!!! Nice!!
Im just another pissy motocross fan utilizing one of the many freedoms that our government is trying to take away from us- Freedom Of Speech- venting the frustrations of not being able to see both motos of a sport I love!
In retrospect- I guess there's much more important things to be stressed over- like the economy- this bonehead president getting re-elected (yikes!)- our troops not coming home- or wether or not my boy Stewart is ever going to show up to race this summer!!! Ha....
Either way- come on Bam Bam and Dowd!

Those of you on this forum that are or have been active duty- thank you for your service and god bless you.

This is BULL!! I can't believe this! I hate you NBC! This is the worst news for the series. Who ever made this call is destroying the sport! I won't sleep until I find retribution!

..... Oh hang on a second. I am not a US citizen. I am in Australia. Oh my bad it is live on Speed 2nd motos.... Yay for Australia and thier love for Motocross!

Profile Picture
groundy056 wrote: 7:04pm August 10, 2012

In all seriousness. I know to some it is not acceptable. However I would guarantee the race will be live on Justin.tv. Go on there tomorrow and have a search. Saves waiting.

Profile Picture
BigBadBill wrote: 7:34pm August 10, 2012

I was not calling the Olympics pure garbage. To bump the second motos two days and then air them only in the afternoon IS pure garbage. We are a working class family and finding the time to get together and watch the races requires....a weekend. There should be a way to air the stuff, even late night, sooner. While the Olympics are fine and good, it's just not MX. MX fans should not have to be secondary to other incredibly boring stuff like NASCAR and soccer just because of popularity numbers.

Profile Picture
cgraham46 wrote: 8:00pm August 10, 2012

@Big Bad Bill-
That's exactly what I'm saying!
My wife, kids and I look forward to the weekend to scream and yell for our favorite riders- it truly is family t.v. time! In this world of doom and gloom on most networks, b.s. reality programming, it's nice to share something with my family! That we all enjoy. WE do not watch Olympics together or any other programming for that matter-
BUT I guess we are the minority- so our voice does not matter, nor is heard. ( Which is pretty funny considering the state the U.S. is in nowadays!)

Patrack wrote: 8:21pm August 10, 2012

Motocross/Supercross is by far my favorite sport as well. Still, dirt bikes are a fringe sport and will NEVER be on the level of NFL, Nascar, the Olympics and other mainstream sports, so the comparison is not appropriate.

I wish they would just stream all the motos on the internet live then this wouldn't be an issue. It's also likely I won't even watch the second motos (well, maybe the 250s), because I'll already know what happened.

Reminds me of the 4 or so CBS next day Supercross races each season which are also a bummer for fans, like us, who look at moto sites probably several times a week. I also doubt those CBS races bring many new regular viewers.

Finally, this is 2012, I realize in the past the coverage was worse back then, but that is no justification for the current situation.

Not showing the 2nd moto's untill tuesday afternoon, are you kidding me.The powers that be need to dump NBCsportsnetwork and go back to Speed channel.

Not only does this coverage gap lose viewers it makes them mad as heck especially since being from Canada, I can't get NBS SPORTS even if would like to pay for it. This is crap as a whole country is left in the dark. This is the first year in at least the last 10 years that I couldn't get to watch the Outdoor nationals which are my favorite. Bring back SPEED FOR NEXT YEAR!

Why bother airing it at all alisports will have the second moto posted to the archive by then. I would ask what were they thinking, but the answer to that is pretty obvious, they weren't!
I agee that waiting until Tuesday is a huge PITA, I can also look back to the days when it wasn't even a televised event, so we are making some sort of progress.
Even though this year year seems to be a backslide, maybe they will learn from it, and make 2013 even better.

I know dream on!!

What a joke. 2nd motos on tuesday ? the AMA and the National Promoters Group is a joke. Shame on you MX Sports. Is there any other sport motorized or not that airs competition in two parts on two different days when the event is a one day event ? NO!!! You think nascar or indy would do that. Yeah right. These idiots are discrediting our sport.....

DC reminds me of dipshit Obama, they try to tell us what we are seeing and experiencing is really not reality, and everything is great. Just leave it up to the "smart" people.

NBA is a joke look how they screwed up Olympic coverage by showing the best events close to midnight on tape delay. Look how they show repeats in volleyball, soccer, and worse of all womens water polo. Most people I know are not even watching the coverage they know who wins long before it happens. So this is my first year of just ignoring the Olympics but not my last.
I sure will not be watching on tuesday just as a protest since I know the results anyway and dont need to see a commercial with 2 laps to go and miss out on the best part of the race only to see those boring interviews on the podium.

The fact that is delayed because of RE-RUNS of the Olympics is ridiculous! They can take a break in the RE-RUNS for some bull-crap but can't show the Motos within a reasonable period of time!??! Really Davey? Really? You couldn't negotiate a better deal than that? you want to grow our sport but it gets put behind reruns of what everybody already know what the outcome is? Thats really showing them how important, physically demanding, and intense our sport is.

If you can't show me coverage in reasonable time frame then I lose interest period. I lose the living in the moment factor and might as well just hear from friends who won last week. If I don't stay excited about the racing.... I don't tend to spend the money to go to the races when they come to the area. Get with the program and air the races somehow or risk the small market fan base you have. Just saying....

I have a problem waiting for the second moto, so I catch the live timing @ http://americanmotocrosslive.com/
In this economy I simply cannot afford to add the additional packages my cable company has things chopped up into. I would have to add 2 separate packages to get all the channels needed to watch the races on TV. I have to have internet for what I do for a living so that is were I watch my races and live timing.
Sounds to me that the powers that be in the motocross world own stock in cable television, and are more concerned with making a profit there than keeping the dedicated fans of the sport happy.
I am all for an internet package that takes me to a day at the races so that I don't have to upset the television industry with having to find time to schedule the things I would like to watch around other sports. I would like to see an archive of the races like allisports.com does now in case something comes up and I have to miss a race, that way I could view it at a later time.
Get us a season pass to supercross and outdoor motocross, and cut the money grubbing cable providers out of the equation.

Corporate Nonsense and shenanigans I tell ya.
Why must we always be the ones to suffer.
Olympics are important...but surley some other arrangements coulda been made so us FANS can view the 2nd Moto. But it's the corporate greed that prevents it form happen.

And that's the way it is..cause Klem says so.

@sef154: Well, i can certainly understand your lack of outrage. Obviously, anyone who would refer to an AMA National Championship round as "our little motorbike race" would never understand what it's like to be a true fan of the sport. While i am not a fan of the Olympics, i can understand other people being hardcore about watching. However, the 2nd motos aren't being delayed for Olympic coverage. They are being delayed for "post-Olympic" coverage, which is nothing more than NBC's efforts to squeeze every last nickel of advertising $ out of reruns. So, my suggestion to you, @sef154, is to find yourself a cozy little channel that broadcasts 24 hour synchronized swimming and stop judging the moto-faithful true fans for their justified anger over this corporate greed.
