Surely underrated, and a great podcast. I lined up with MK a few times in the early to mid 90's and he was always a nice guy, even to us privateers....

I'll clarify this.....Matthes kept saying he could have been a 5 time champ. Don't forget that back in the 80's and early 90's if you won two 125 championships they'd bump you out to the big bikes......so if Mike had indeed won the 1990 Championship he'd have gone to the 250's & 500's outdoors in 1991. The AMA changed that rule after Barnett's 3 in a row streak back in the early 80's on the 125.

So who knows how it would have played out, but he never would have been a 3 time 125 champ under the AMA's rule structore at the time....
