Stewie and his Suzuki are looking awesome so far. Anyone who says it wasn't the yami-hami-momi is in denial.

Go Dungey, but as it stands right now, it is for second place.

Racing credit must be given when earned, and Stewie, so far, has definately earned it...............

Im a HUGE Stewart fan as well as a HUGE MX SX fan what I dont get is why you guys always make excusses when Dungy gets beat. If it was RV you would say he did a good job RV just faster but its Stewart so you say oh it was the lapers , well lapers wernt there the first 20 min of the race, or he needs a better start ...UH if you didnt see it Stew. got a 3rd place start and was one behind DUNG.... Bottom line for you hatere Dungy whom I like as well just got beat last 3 motos plain and simple he got beat!!! Thats why there is a number 1 plate cause the rest of the guys just got BEAT , if stewart looses next moto guess what HE JUST GOT BEAT! Its life stop makeing excusses.....

Kawasaki came out with all these improvements for 2012. People are always saying how the Honda is so refined for 2012. The Suzuki is basically still their 2010 bike and I have to say that's one bad Dirt Bike with JS7 2.0 at the controls. Great ride James. Mike Alessi over 1 minute behind. I wish they would give him some factory suspension. Roger Vista,Ca

See, When Dungey took james position he gets upset, thus making him make Ballsy moves which got him the lead AND 10 BUCKS IN MY POCKET lol Im poor :(

Gotta say that was some great racing! Stewart looks really comfortable on the yellow bike and Dungey looks like he is still trying to get the bike sorted out a bit as it did the rear end kick swap thing a few times on him that KTMs seem to have always done.

Really surprised that James conditioning is a good as it is. Last week I made a comment about him possibly needing to ride himself into shape and I am glad that he is proving me wrong, For a guy that didn't race much the past few years he must have been working hard at keeping the conditioning up any way. Much respect.

Also stoked for Grant. He looks like he may have finally found a place where he feels good, just like James has.

@megatron13222 - Nobody was making excuses when you posted your first comment. That sort of unprovoked rant is part of why people call the Stewart nuthuggers "Stewtards".

I picked Dungey to win in Freestone just because he is a machine and will never stop, no matter the temperature. But JS is proving me and many others wrong. I don't think it's Dungey's bike, I think it's Stews, he is so comfortable and confident that it doesn't look like he has to push. Hey megatron13222,,you can't say Dungeys bike is as good as The Suzuki...How long has THE RM been in developement??? And how long has the ktm 450 been in developement??? And most those riders DUngey and Stuart beat were on lesser machines and little support? I'm sure you can understand the difference.,,

HOw about Mike Alessi beating many of the other FACTORY RIDERS!! On a crappy bike and small team!!! Mike is better at the outdoors than at supercross!!! Get Alessi some factory support!! Maybe the Japanessee melted their brains out with radiation so much they can't think properly...cause it's a no brainer to give an amazing rider some help to do even better!!!

The aparent GREATEST SPORT in the WORLD HAS NO T.V. COVERAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for me in canada......IT's overly hyped up with nothing to back it up.....All the children on here will cry bloody murder when they read anything negative about the great USA!!! i think he needs to update what exactly james is doing wrong.. and what "he sees"

Would he win ( Dungey ) if he was on that RMZ with The amazing turning and suspension capabilities The RM seems to have always had???? FIx that rear end!!!
on that KTM!!!

how about this, what if James was on Mike Alessi's bike and team and Mike A was on the FACTORY SUZUKI::?????? what would happen? James was a tool on that yamaha and that was a top team!!

My only question is, why were the lappers racing with Stewart and Dungey ? I'm sorry but Lano needs to get the hell out of the way when the blue flags fly. I understand he was racing for position but then started racing JS7 and RD5 like he was in NASCAR and was gonna get the lucky dog or something. For pros , the lappers act more like amatuers.

I think if Weimer can get better starts he could be the third place guy and take advantage of mistakes from the top two. He rode his way from like 6th to 3rd in the first moto, and rode from outside the top 20 to 6th in the second moto. But then again, starts are part of racing and Mike Alessi will always be good at starts.

canadianmxfan... Well you know its hard to say cause Dungy pushed Sew. but we really dont know how hard , Dungy isnt the kind of rider like a RV or a RC was where they attack you all over the track Dungy sits back and waits for his chance so thus giving Stew a chance to pull away or relax just a bit. So we know Stew being pushe but we havent seen him on edge yet. As for give mike a bike or trade a few years ago when stew went 24 and ) mike was the second fastest guy that year and I felt he was at his best that year he had every body beat except stewart so if mike had a better bike yes he would be up there but no he wouldnt beat stewart or dungy he still to timid in the woops...

Profile Picture

Please lets not start the "nobodies out there" bs.....Dungey is out there and don't forget that Dungey was the 2010 champ and if not for a mechanical last year he rode well enough to have been the 2011 champ.......i still think RD will come around, but Stewart has beaten a very formidable opponent the last two weeks........so give that argument up would ya??

The "Carmichael" approach doesn't work for Dungey because James isn't afraid of him. he waas asked in a Supercross interview by Erin Bates about Dungey and is answer was "I have him covered". He knows Dungey isn't going to be aggressive with him like Villopoto, Reed or Carmichael would.
It would be interesting to see Dungey really hammer him in a turn. Stewart would probably fall over out of shock.

Hi guys, long time reader of this forum and just wanted to add that some say stewie was not pushing today but i think he was, at least when dunge put the heat on. 7 had a couple of close calls in moto1.

Also I think dungey is aaaalmost or as fast as stewie, he just has no berzerker mode like 7 does, or at least isnt willing to send it like stewie. BUT one day 7 will be unlucky and dunge will be there waiting. all he has to do is keep applying pressure. I wish them both well!

He can't drop his lap times anymore to check out from him...I thought If stew felt pressured he may have let Dunge by to study his lines a bit but I don't think he was bothered by him much... canadianmxfan: nice rant LOL. and I know you didn't mean it! I live in Canada too and am just as PO'ed as you that we get no outdoor coverage here anymores, but you can't blame the American people for that. I have many friends down south that are just as frustrated about it and that venting should go to NBC if anything. Your kidding though if you think the US racers can't compete in Europe. Look at all the MXon trophies stateside on tracks they only had some short practice runs on. Right now, the US does have the fastest and most consistent racers out there and anyone that wants to be somebody needs to race in the US to really prove themselves.

@klrman-thank-you. You are a good neighbor, and are welcome here. Great racing yesterday, and for the most part here, everyone sees it the same. I too, would like to see RV etc. back racing but all we can say is someday. As someone that really wasn't a fan of JS and MA, I will say this,"You guys are looking good out there." The podium speeches and general attitude's are good. They seem more humble, I guess. Now Mike, keep this going. Last time I started to give you credit, you had to go and flip off RD @ vegas. No need for that stuff. Eating a little crow here, but good luck to all the riders, even JS and MA. Helping to keep it interesting. As if anyone really cares what I think! lol

I'm obviously a Suzuki fan, so I always root for the yellow bike, but I thought Dungey did an awesome job with showing some aggression and his bike looked, to me, more calm than Stewarts. His back end seemed to be jumping up a lot(Stewarts). Can't wait for Colorado. Go Stewart, (I never thought I'd say that).

Profile Picture
Claxton wrote: 10:31am May 27, 2012

JS goes out in practice 2 the rough one and beats down Dungey by 2.3 seconds. In 4 motos Dungey has been in front of him 3 races and got passed and beaten. Yesterday Dungey made several attempts to pass and JS dialed up the throttle to prevent it. It should be obvious to everyone that JS has him covered because I think both riders know it.
As for people making excuses about the KTM did anyone force RD to ride it and does the KTM only falter when it tries to pass JS or hold the lead on Him? Hey Dungey is good I admit that but as long as RV and JS are around he will be second fiddle. I have Dungey friends who say "wait till Freestone and RD will take him down". When I offered them RD and the entire field for a bet they all refused so that tells the story to me.
When a rider gets beaten enough his desire will cave in, we all should know this.

Profile Picture
Didierlotsyeng wrote: 10:57am May 27, 2012

@Claxton... Practice times generally does not mean much.. Stewie was always fast in practice... Even when he was on the yamaha...
Bear in mind, KTM came out with a brand new 450... Just to get Dungey on board.. Gave him a lot of $$.. I believe he's now the best paid rider out there...
And unlike in the GP scene.. Where KTM can alter their bikes... In the US, they have to cope with the production rule... (God bless the AMA for this ruling!!)
I will always re-itirate, that WP suspensions are still the weakest link... Unless they have hired a group of talented foreign engineers who either copy what the japs do... Or DeCoster makes them do it...
DUngey rode great... Real gentlemen, and this can sometimes be annoying as he should have pass stewie...
But this is just race 2... Am still betting stewie will hit the dirt sooner or later...

@bigtireguy... Yeah, that was a bit strange... But in a way.. He just wanted to be re-united with DeCoster.... Plus, DUngey had to deal with new management... A transition of management as well.. (Yoshimura was taking over everything)... Some cutbacks... NAme it...
And Dungey was being offered a looooooot of money...

Gotta play the devil's advocate for all of the folks who have done it in the past. He's just winning because RV and CR and TC are not out there! Right? Isn't that how this works?

Dungey lost his confidence with Suzuki as a company. there were rumors that they could pay his bonuses, then he had the 3 mechanical issues. But he was already committed to going with Decoster even before all of that, Decoster said it in an interview, he claimed that Dungey wanted to come to KTM for '11 and Decoster told him to honor his contract and let KTM get things figured out. and just like Stewart said he bought his own Suzuki a few months ago, Dungey bought his own KTMs and rode them practically the entire '11 season( i know, not the current one, but KTMs none the less).

@Didier, I understand the details. Its just gotta be hard losing to the bike you were on and tested and developed etc... He is in a good place, they just need to figure out the suspension. I only wish Reed and Villipoto where out there. Oh well. Good racing is good racing,

I think that Stewie is benefitting from all the tersting and outdoor racing that was done by Dungey and Metcalfe on that bike the last few years. Dungey is on a brand new KTM, so he is still getting acclimated. And NO to all the Stewtards, I am not making excuses. Stewie looks the best he has in years. Dungey will have to be near perfect to beat him.

@bigtireguy, I agree, I wish RV and Reed were there, a big point battle would be great. I do NOT agree that Dungey would have won the title last year if not for his DNF, I think RV would have pushed and done what it took to win. Just like he did last season and like he did the last 2 supercross titles he won. Not sure why anyone would doubt that. I guess its guys just trying to make Stewie look like he is beating the best. Dungey is fast no doubt. But he isnt the defending champ. I wish RV was racing..and Reed, Would love to see a 4 man battle for the lead, not just those two. Nobody else out there can keep pace.

@uneasy-rider--I know, its what ALLLL the Stewtards STILL say about Reeds supercross titles, "Stewart wasnt there, RC wasnt there, its the ONLY reason Reed won" Now they are jumping ship and saying Stewie can only race who lines up blah, blah blah.... Sounds very hypocritical of them.. I never believed that crap but they always said that about Reed, no that the shoe is on the other foot, they are "flip-flopping".

Profile Picture
bigtireguy wrote: 12:28pm May 27, 2012

@bd200, I agree with RV still winning the title last year, My point was Dungey had a few mechanical problems, that were out of his control smack him. RV1 was the champ, and deserves all the accolades he gets. Until his injury, nobody could beat him. Last year Reed was keeping him honest until the sky-shot yard sale slowed him. As far as the"Flip-Flopping", I agree, it seems like a one-way road with SOME of his fans.

@yellowrider207... Where on earth did you get that info Dungey was testing a KTM he had purchased?? Their stock 450 of last year was an outdated machine.... So you should be pretty stupid to do so... Even last year KTM scaled down their 450 production in favor for the 350... And true their were some rumors Dungey wanted to leave suzuki.. But they were just rumors... Yes... We all know Dungey seems to work very well with DeCoster... But hell... Who wouldn't ? DeCoster convinced the execs at KTM the 350 was clearly NOT the way to go for the US SX & MX... Thank goodness he was also helped by having two riders who were just not capable to develop the 350...

@ Didierlotsyeng, practice times tell the story like yesterday in both classes. I did not think JS would win Hangtown until I saw him practice that day then I knew he had it and he won just like yesterday. I am not a JS fan but name me one person to ever beat him in outdoors besides the GOAT. Now the last time I saw RD on his Suzuki he helped develope RV was eating his lunch at the MX of Nations. The fact is RD is good but as long as RV and JS are around he plays second fiddle.

I don't want to name names, but grew up in a small town suzuki dealership, and still know people in the industry. A guy who became friends with the Dungey family through his dealings with Suzuki. He told me that waay before there were any rumors out here in public. it really doesn't matter much now, but it's not like he jumped on a totally unfamiliar bike and started from scratch. not to take anything away from him, I think he rode better at freestone than I ever seen him ride. He's never been on anyone's fender that long before and not slipped up, let alone a happy James Stewart, he'll get some wins this year, he has to.

@megatron13222 - I wasn't making any excuses for Dungey at all. I just made an observation, As someone that races the Vet Intermediate class (not quite a pro these days!), toured the Nat'l and SX circuits a bit back in the day turning wrenches for other riders, and someone that has owned a few KTMs over the years, I simply made the observation that his bike seemed to buck him a few times coming into the corners and James bike looked more even. His KTM did look really good though. Just not as planted as James bike (that Dungey helped develop --Oh the irony!).

In regards to your comment "REALLY maby you havnt noticed but hes racing the fastes guys in the world" ---- Yes he is and that is why I was surprised how good his conditioning is coming into the out doors since he has not raced much in the past few years. I had made a comment earlier this month that it would be interesting to see how his conditioning is or if he would need to ride himself into shape to get up to race speed. Obviously his conditioning is killer!

Really wish Reed, RV, K-Dub, TC, and Ratray were out there. That would make this season just EPIC!

look if reed and rv were in the series and winning it wouldnt be the true story stewart and dungey are new to their bikes let them have this summer to themselfs to get ready for next year stop trying to discredit them, this weather you realize it or not it is good for us in the long run next year we will be in for some great racing with rd and js only having to worry about eachother it gives them time to focus on getting their bikes were they need them to be without the chaos that there would be if everyone was in, and for those who are completely writing rd off by acting like james beating him is nothing impressive is just plain stupid did rv or reed get a 1-1 over rd last year? if they did it did not happen two weeks in a row thats for sure

Redneckrider.... Hey wasnt trying to question your lack of knowledge at all ! I just get irritated with guys that sit on the couch and think they know the sport from a magazine or a tv show. Im a huge stewtard as they say as well as just an overall MX SX lover, so when james doesnt or does there is so many guys that all ways make some excuse why he won or lost. For me James may win the title this yea with our reed withot RV with out canard but thats not dungy or stewarts fault. Racing is all about the smartest rider some time the fastest but for sure its about who is there week in and week out. Just like in SX Vill. got the title lol cause he lasted the longest until he went down but he still won it no matter who was there or not . I just give credit were credit is do, and yes that Ktm did jump around some as you said but was soaking up alot of that rough stuff also I love that Dungy battled him the whole way ....

@yellowrider207.. Ok.. So the Dunge was testing the waters already... Balsy move then.. Even though KTM is going to offer him a kooky of $$... Anyway... Dunge has to quit being nice and be a bit like a Reed or RV when he will race stewie... He has the speed and thank goodness stewie decided to race... It would be a repeat of 2010...
@claxton... Good point... But the Dunge is still young and can still develop his aggressive side...

If Stewart is benefitting from all the R&D done by Dungey and Metcalfe- then weren't Dungey and Metty benifitting fron the R&D done by Reed and Alessi? And weren't Reed and Alessi benifitting fron the R&D done by Carmichael and Tedesco? Weren't Carmichael and Tedesco were benifitting fron the R&D done by Tortelli and Hamblin?
Isn't every bike out there benifitting from the team of riders before them? And who's R&D was Villopoto benifitting from with that all new 2012 Kawasaki? Was Timmy Ferry in on it at all? I remember Dungey being unhappy with the zook last year- he said so after it was all over with.

klrman1 , your right about the usa having the fastest racers on the planet, with JS7,Dungey and VIllipoto! and about 5 more other riders..BUt i'm pissed about the tv deal...Who wants to sit in front of a computer when i could chill on a couch in front of a big screen, eh!!!

I''m also bothered by so many privateers that don't get enough support! If they race with the best in the world then the privateers should be compensated with cash.. they risk their lives out there!!!

megatron13222, I think your spot on about those riders mentioned. Mabey DUngey is playing it safe for a bit before he gets agressive? I hope James stays healthy for the whole outdoors, it suck when any rider get injured....

hey "redneckracer', i dont think JS bike was all that calm. the rear end was kicking up bigtime on some of those braking bumps, especially when he was pushing to fend off dungey. no excuses for RD, he got beat straight up. if he wants to beat JS hes gonna have to take some 'feet of the pegs' WFO chances. just like GOAT did.

good ride by both riders. i do believe bubba could have taken it to another level if he needed to, just look at the lap times. dungy just dont seem like he has that extra bit of pace. and for people to think Chad Reed is fast , is a joke. they must forget the time bubba slowed down for in 125motox , let him go by, then caught up him up and smoked him. villapoto might give him a run for his money . but when bubba is fast, its isnt much out there that can keep up .

it cant sit well with a lot of people including dungey that stewart was able to turn it up and run his fastest lap on the 15th lap of the second moto when everyone was expecting james to fade dungey wins a lot on endurance alone and if he dont have that edge what can he do

i agree i keep saying that this is a chance to even the playing field reed and rv will be a little rusty coming off an injury while stewart and dungey are gonna be fresh off the outdoors they might and i say might have a slight edge, reed is a question mark rv has shown that he can come back off an injury and kill it right away

That is exactly what I would have said- it's so true. Lets not forget that Stew has come back from injury and flat out dominated before. 2003 outdoors and 2008 outdoors. And Dungey got over that collarbone pretty quick too.

Profile Picture

Plus Dungey is still a little behind the curve with a lot of room for improvemant- In 2006 he was a B class amatuer while Stewart was battling with (and sometimes beating) the Goat. He hasn;t reached his cieling yet imo.

Good battle for the fans it is going to get the better of one of them in the next few racers we will just have to wait and see who?

Good effort from Allesi too.

@bucky394, thanks man!
@canadianmxfan, I understand how you feel as I have a big screen plasma that was just intended for the racing, so it's still a big letdown for me. I guess it's just something we all have to deal with. Our sport is not loved by the major networks and that's just the way it is. At least we got speed for the SX unless NBC got a hold of that too, but hopefully not.

Profile Picture
canadianmxfan wrote: 9:48pm May 28, 2012

klrman1,, lol you got a big plasma screen just for watching mx racing and you can't watch anything!! that sucks...if enough people complain bitterly do you think that would make a difference???

If next year all the top racers are racing outdoors and we still don't get racing on out T.V.'s then it will really be a miserable time!!!!

If James wins then good for him, he will have earned it,he has some good compition and some of the other racers are like parranahs, it's like they can smell an injured rider...A lot of racing left and i don't think James will win them all!!

Profile Picture
klrman1 wrote: 1:34am May 29, 2012

canadianmxfan; yep, I got suckered into a big plasma screen just for MX and SX. Finally made the plunge as I don't watch much TV except for that racing, so a few beers and some meditation to calm my nerves to not have angry thoughts towards NBC are constantly needed lol.

Yeah, lots of racing left so it's a hard call. James is for sure on top of things, but Dungey is so relentless that he's probably going to keep on James back right until the last moto. I doubt JS is going to win them all too, but so far he's doing well handling the pressure and it's going to be a good season.

Profile Picture
klrman1 wrote: 1:42am May 29, 2012

Sorry, forgot to add that I don't know if complaining to NBC is going to make a difference. You just never know, but what I don't get is that last year they showed a few outdoors to all of us, so why would they think of taking it all away and only showing it now to a select group who can actually access those channels? Weird stuff. Instead of complaining, if all of us up here and in the US could write NBC a polite letter stating that our cable or dish providers don't even get NBCSN and that we really would appreciate it back on the regular NBC network, maybe someone inside the top brass may show some heart, but I can't help but get that sinking feeling that they could care less.
