HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. – Privateer Gavin Faith has been selected by the JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha Team to fill in for James Stewart while he recovers from a fractured bone in his hand sustained during a crash in Indianapolis.
Faith, 20 years of age, hails from Fort Dodge Iowa and has had an impressive amateur career. He has finished in the top-10 in the Supercross Lites Class, and is looking forward to riding the JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha prepared YZ450F in the premier Supercross Class at the Seattle and Salt Lake City rounds of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship on April 21 and 28 respectively. Stewart just began riding again and depending on the progress of his recovery may return for the final round on May 5, in Las Vegas, Nev.
Faith will make his JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha Team debut this Saturday, April 21 at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Wash. SPEED will air the event live in its entirety starting at 10:30 p.m. (EST).Share this article:

@Gavin - Good Luck, make the best of it, and hopefully see you, Outdoors.
" Stewart just began riding again..." What color? Suzuki, Yamaha, or a Suzuki with blue plates until there is an official announcement.
And so it begins........
F(*&^ these F*&(in secrects. Can't stand this sh1t... Good luck Gavin, hopefully the Yamaha isn't a set back in your career.
Midwest Too Strong!!! Make us proud, Gavin!
Your friends in Iowa aka God's Country!
Braaaap!
His privateer honda was a better bike. haha
He's gonna get "LAWN DARTED"
Hell, he'll probably get top 5.
I was just telling Coy the other day he needs to have faith.
Glad he took me seriously.
The new JGR rider is a steady rider from Iowa, who has paid his dues. Wait, didn't they make that same announcement 2 years ago?
Going from a Honda to Yamaha in a week could be tough, not because I think Yamahas are worse (that can be argued for and against endlessly by others), but the ergos and feel are quite different from one to another. Could also be heavier than a private Honda 450. Seriously.
This should finally settle it. If Gavin is 1st or 2nd in practice, dominates his heat race, and crashes out of the main, we'll know it's the bike.
@SA11 - LOL, that's funny
@R290 - According to my source (twitter), JS did a photo shoot. If that's riding to him, know wonder JS isn't getting the results JGR is looking for.
I think the kid will do fine, it is hilarious that some guys just cant admit that thier favorite guy just isnt the fastest guy, so they STILL blame the bike. Even after Stewie rode every brand of bike and signed the JGR contract and said himself "This bike and team gives me the best chance to win".. Stewie said himself he had an offer from Suzuki, and "Others" he says and he sogned with JGR to ride the Yamaha.. So I guess Stewie thinks the bike is fine, his heat race results are awful good..
@SA11.. ::applause:: !!!
Way to go Gavin this is a great opportunity, ride that bike like Millsaps has been. It'll be interesting to see where Stewart ends up since this usually means that he's moved on.
Should have said Its OFFICIAL Stewart out of JGR. I think Stewie will come back at Vegas win the race and then move to yellow next season or even outdoors. Its no secret he loved the yellow bike best but Big James wanted him to stick with JGR bcoz of future potential.
These teams must sit back and talk about the fans as if they share one collective brain. So Faith is officially filling in for a possible two week stint? Or is JGR for some odd reason with 3 SX races left going to a 3 man team? Why do I feel that Faith will be in board for 12 Nationals after SX ends, and James will be wakeboarding and Tweeting about what's on TV? I hope Faith does really well for them. Does Davi get dibs on the fancypants tank and shrouds?
Love to see the kid get a win or even a top 5. That would shut up all of the Stewtards and Yamabashers.
Good luck Gavin!
@SA11 - Well done! Wouldn't that be hilarious . . . Been rootin' for Faith since Geico put him on their 250F earlier this season, but the best he's done on the privateer Honda 450F is a 14th and 15th, so we probably won't see heat race domination on the Yami, but that would be sweet! Good luck kid.
@bd200 The Yamahas for sure have centre of gravity issues but in the end its all on stewart for not toning down how aggressive he is to suit the bike. Plenty of guys do good on Yamahas and plenty crash. The ones that crash are often the ones that try to ride to aggressive and wash the front out. Not to be rude but do you think which bike was better made JS7s decision in the end? We all know he took that ride because it was for more money and had the possibility of a car contract after he hangs up his boots. Anyway, @Gavin, Good luck dude. Hope to see you survive the race on 2 wheels!
JSE/JGR SUZUKI separated rig for the summer.. yea , I said it.
JGR Yamaha will continue on their on rig with mudflaps and A.S.
U read it here.
I know im months late, but where did he say that he liked the Suzuki more? i tried searching but i cant find it. I hope he does make a change though. He did say that his year is not done, even though he's not planning on riding remaining rounds.
Rumors claimed he was 2 seconds a lap faster on the Suzuki. Rumors. I believe the Suzuki might be a better bike, but not 2 seconds a lap faster. Maybe 2 tenths of second a lap faster on average? I don't care how much more money it was, if you're 2 seconds a lap faster on one bike over the other, you go with that bike. The money would work itself out in the end if you go that fast. Kinda how RV makes way less than Dungey, until he starts winning everything and the bonuses pile up to dwarf Dungey's salary. That means James would be out there playing with RV all year this year? Yeah, can you imagine being 2 seconds a lap faster than RV? No bike is going to make a top Pro that much better.
Good luck to Faith and it is great now to see that the riders from the midwest are getting some respect. That is where I started racing in 1972. My first race was at Macomb ILL and my first win was at Quincy ILL.
Also the first rider from the Midwest to get a National Nbr was Dewayne Bonnet from (I think) Des Moines Iowa.
I see it like this....Without Stewart, Yamaha does not have many guys to land on the podium..we know that to be true when the field is full...However a Team like JGR, no matter who is on the team, it is a good representation of the Yamaha....Suzuki is in dire need of a "guy" to show how great their bike is, which RC, Reed and Dungey have all given high remarks ...aside from his win via RV playing it cool in Southwick last year, Metty has not done much for the Suzuki boys and without Dungey....they are almost invisible....Suzuki needs Stewart and Stewart needs Suzuki.....
Good luck Faith. Ride hard and stay safe.
Suzuki needs Stewart like I need another you know what. Are there still people who believe that Stewart's bike is the problem? Anyhow, Gavin just stay on the bike and your better than JS7, Good Luck! remember the Farm!
Some of you are total idiots (you know who you are) sorry fools but that bike doesn't suit the guy...just like CR and the KAWI but none of you rip him for that!! Hey bd200, as far as him signing because he thought it was the best bike, i say no way....i think he foolishly went for the deal ( and the bike he knew he didn't like so well) because of the big NASCAR connection with Joe Gibbs....plain and simple!! Everything you fellas say is nothing but opinion so im throwing mine out there and saying JS was influenced by the possibility of getting in with a team that had huge connections with the type of racing James sees himself doing in the future.....and as far as MX racing goes, it was not the best decision for him to make. Sorry, that bike does not suit his style!! It is possible you know!! Once again, i sight Reed and Kawi. I agree with you KillMoto!!!! Oh, and good luck Gavin!!
I think Reed and Kawasaki was more about him getting hurt early, then the baby arrived and his buddy McFarlane was tragically killed, and he just did not care to put out the effort in 2010. When he came back from his injury he rode the bike reasonably well in the last SX races, took 2nd to Dungey at Vegas. Whether he actually had EBV is only something him and his doctor will ever know....
JS7 went to JGR because he wants to race CARS. He's done with SX/MX, he just does not know it yet. But in his head somewhere, he's done. Sad but true.
I'm not sure why anyone thinks that if Suzuki couldn't pony up to keep Roger D, Goose, or RD, they'd all of a sudden have money for Stewart.
@VOR-- Read the interv iew, I think we have been through this before, but you REFUSE to read the interview because it would prove to you that it isnt the bike. Its at ESPN GO on the website. Read it and weep, Stewie says he loved the bike. After he rode all the others except the KTM, and he never got an offer from Kawi or KTM, but he rode a Kawi he bought himself. And chose the Yamaha,, I guess you will call Stewie a liar and say you dont believe it.
This article is a big load of crap. No way is Stewart riding any outdoor nationals on any brand of bike. Gavin faith is going to be riding the outdoors for JGR when Stewart bails out of his contract. That is why they are trying him out for two supercross races.
