None of the above. Most of those suggestions would penalize the fast guys. If you can't keep up, get faster.
I don't like any of the options above, but I do like the single file restart. I've been complaining for a long time that red flags aren't fair to the guys who got a great start and are pulling ahead. They should do this for all restarts, no matter how many laps have been completed.

Jason, the restart was no joke. watch some dirt flat track they do it all the time. The riders really need to get that start down they should not sit there and wait for the rider in front of them to go, as soon as that flag drops, Race On!

Inverted starts. That is truly the best idea. Pay out championship points in qualifiers so guys can't sandbag and hold back for a better gate pick. They will want to race for the win in the qualifier because it will pay championship points. Then for the main event invert the start order. Doing this allows more privateers to start up front and the faster guys will have to work through the pack a bit more. This will provide for better racing and a much better fan experience. It's really just that simple.
Loved the single file start, it is very fair... really surprised the riders were so nonchalant about it. I would have been stoked to hear that if I was third I would still be third.

How about a figure-8 style crossing somewhere on the track?? You know..who's gonna hold it on, and who's gonna chicken out and let off to let the other guy through...
Yank lappers after 10 laps if their not top 5 in points and haven't been advancing track positions.
None of the above. But I've always thought that heat wins or maybe fast qualifier should pay an extra point or two for the championship
The staggered start is a much better option than a complete restart and it worked.
Making light of it by suggesting pit stops and windmill jumps is STUPID STUPID STUPID Weigandt. Save the bad humor for your articles.

How about 25 lap SX mains, and 20 lap SX Lites mains ?? And how about not smoothing out the track after almost every race ?? How about more deep, deep sand sections ?? OK, thats all the "how abouts" I can think of right now.
how about after 5 years on a 250f you are forced to move up to a 450??
Jump through a windmill and into one of three tunnels. The tunnels will move and shoot the riders out at different advantagious or disadvantagious spots on the track, just like mini golf! Don't forget the jump over the shark pool and the draw bridge crossing.
@mxmofo1 They have to fix the track because otherwise they would be racing on the concrete floors after the 2nd 450 heat. But none of these... This isn't NASCAR.
how about supercross using a 20 min + 2 format so that regardless of the track, we have a full race...baseball stadiums are a joke for SX...too small...45 sec laptimes are fine, but race length is greatly diminished
Those are all dumb, but I loved the single file start. Now wave off lapped riders, some guys get into the main and don't even try. Get them off the track.

@Me_Gusta762,, hahahaha,, on the inside ruts maybe, but I think they could fix that problem pretty easily. Also, I'm talking about the faces on the jumps, the whoops, and the outside of the corners. Ruts are goooooood....
@mxmofo1 haha, Very true, very true indeed. I wouldn't mind seeing some deep ruts formed to the point where they're so deep they are unusable, forcing the riders to come up with different lines making the racing tougher and possibly closer.

What about putting each rider in a big Hamster ball? would be very entertaining.........
How about forcing the lites/250F champions to the big boy 450F class. If they forced the champion up it would help the churn of talent for the premiere class. This whole "gotta defend my title" in the lites class is a little goofy. The teams like PC and Geico Honda should definitely still get their #1 plates to hang up and boast but the sport needs the talent at the top, and that is in the 450 class not the lites.
Agreed there are no good ideas here. I would like to see timed races, + 2 laps like the outdoors. Makes for a better race when you get the short laps times and keeps it consistent for the mudders. And quit making the whoops easier for the night program.
I'm with mxmofo1 25 lap mains in SX. I loved the staggered start.
I thought it was funny- corkscrews and loop de loops would be a nice addition also.
Two motos instead of one with no heat races and top 5 qualifiers on first gate and top five first moto finishers on second moto first gate. A 2 second delay between gates and this way you get the 5 fastest riders out together for better racing and the other 15 don't interfere with the race which they never do much anyway. This way the start does not determine the outcome like it does in so many of these supercross shorties.
i miss the qualifier races to to get into the qualifiers.. ;) timed practice is no fun.. lets see more racing!

This seems to be taking a shot at the single file restart which I think everyone was digging. I think they should restart all red flags like this if they get past lap 1.
Eight guys to the main from the heats, four guys from the LCQ. I dont like seeing guys not make mains who should be there because of a starting straight/first turn melees or mechanicals. The battles would still be intense for the last spots but the better riders should still end up in the main. Add a couple of laps to the mains and LCQs as well. While we're at it, put everyone on 250f's and make the lites an age class.
The single file start was totally fair. There should only be one chance at a holeshot, so I'm against lining them back up for a restart, unless there's a big first-turn pileup. How about talking your boss into lobbying for equal displacement rules so the privateers can afford to race a semi-competetive bike? I hear DC has some pull in the outdoor series:)
Windmill jumps are for sissies, an alligator pit with a sippe hole would be cool .......
two things I would like
1. 20 min + 2 laps in SX, 15min + 2 in Lites, these 48 second laps suck
2. How about having a 2 stroke class, give the riders 2 practices, top 20 times have a 10 lap shootout before the LCQ's
How about this. Don't let any of the factory riders use special FACTORY part's, tires or special one off custom equipment unless that part is available to everyone and not at a outrageous price. How can a privateer compete with these high dollar FACTORY bikes when they only have mom and dad or even no backup but they do know how to ride a dirtbike at pro level. I think it's very unfare.
I like the restart but it should be a single file rolling start. I don't know why the guys in the back waited so long to get going. I would have thought everyone could take off as soon as the board dropped. If not they could have been single file. Why stagger if you don't all go at once?

Aron213: Why not let the 250 2-strokes in the lites class? And increase the limit to 300 for 2-strokes in the SX class.

Staggered restarts have been the AMA amateur legal way to do red flags in which more than one lap has been completed for years and years. I don't understand how Speed or the pro riders have never heard of it before. Haven't these guys been racing their whole lives? I've personally been at several AMA amateur races where they did staggered restarts. Every time the pros do a complete restart after several laps I get mad because it's not the legal or fair way to deal with red flags.
Staggered starts are the fair way to deal with red flags. It's not fair if someone gets the holeshot on the first start and then the race is halfway over and the AMA restarts the entire race. It can change the outcome of the entire race!

I was at indy, and i think it was very fair the staggered start. the start is half the battle, and the race pretty much resumed right where it left off (some guys closer than before, but so be it) anyway good rule I think. I can see a restart before three or four laps, but after that, the leaders have already been established, and they deserve not to be robbed because someone gets hurt
