With that LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG whoop section I think RC might not like RD much!!!! LOL
Pretty cool, looks long and fast.. Nice long whoops section for ?Stewart to crash in, LOL!! Dont freakout Stewart-ites.. just a joke.... It looks fast though, lets hope those whoops are real ones, not like the St. Louis whoops they just jumped over..Lets hope thye are long and big. Because of the sandy soil here they break down anyways.. Hers to a great Daytona race..
@BillC, Dungey handles the whoops better than Stewart, at least Dungey makes all 20 laps when there is whoops, Stewart crashes..
Looks a lot like last years track... which that was a good race. Wonder if stew will find a line to go 2 sec's a lap faster than everyone else again. Him jumping that wall was impressive, risky, and made it exciting to watch. Love him or hate him, you cannot look away when he is on it.
@KTMrider12-- Look for Stewart to haul here, he always does. But here is the question, will RV try and run down Stewart if he is leading and RV is in second?? As long as RV stays ahead of Dungey, will he try and run Stewart down?? I'm not sure. I think if he is close he will, if he has to ride past his comfort zone he wont. But RV has a little killer instinct in him, but he is eyeing that title too..
I strongly believe that the red arrow is jumping sections that wont even be thought of by the riders...come on red arrow, triple, triple double in what clearly appears will shape up as three sets of doubles. and last but not least huck it at the finish line... ya, dont see that happening either.
love the new start location! also like the timing/rythym options that will be available when the track ruts up.
looking forward to watching the beast from the east take an a hopefully fully recovered roczen...
450's - I pray for a nail biter down to the end kind of like atlanta but with there big three dicing it up...
@mxkid381 dont you know that he red arrow is not a C rider? he jumps crazy kines becuse he is a BOSS!
@therealmofo...I think RV is like RC (early in his career) and wants to win every damed race he enters, including practice and heats!!
But he has shown smarts for sure...it is still out to debate what happened at Oakland...
last point - I said it weeks ago - the yamaha will handle well here. i ride one. they like dirt with traction and ruts in turns..especially on entry. that is whay the rutted tracks we have seen ATL and STL Stewart has rode better... oh and OAK.
thats just my opinion...
I paid a lot of money for primo seats in the "Campbell" section what ever the heck that is but I'm afraid based on the animated track map that the best view I'll have will be from the rear of the gate? Do they still gate more than the traditional 20 riders at Daytona? the used to? And yeah I don't see anybody hucking that finish! The Red Arrow is Bad A , but I think he rides way over his head
Wow what a cool looking design ...hope they can make it as designed....Love Daytona because it is long and breaks down...This design has a long whoops section and some cool tabletops ...could make for some great racing...Hope Dungy and Windham kick some ass.
If that whoop section is really 18 whoops that stand up until race time, I too think RD maybe in trouble and it could result in a 20+ second gar between he and the race winner.
If they are however sandy, get broken down and change every few laps, it will be our first sign of how that KTOOM may work for him outdoors and he may surprise us?
Typo, sorry, gar was suppossed to read gap! my bad!
mxkid and vet, they had the same finish line jump last year, it's a double, I guarantee everyone will be jumping it. Not really sure what you're seeing or thinking there. And BillC, Dungey's been just fine in the whoops, there was one week in SD with the gnarliest set we've seen since Dallas last year, where he struggled a little bit. He'll be just fine.
Well if there is concrete showing at Daytone there is a some serious issue going on. No blue groove here, I say RV throws it away and DNF's as Dungey pushes him to a big mistake. The whoops will turn into a mogul section and will be Bubbas downfall.
In the other class, Roxcen will solidify Barcias decision to move to big bikes for the outdoors!!
He looks way better for sure Warrior462 but that is a long section and if there like SD it could be trouble for ANY of them. It could be nasty!!!
Not4show Thats funny, RD pushing RV so hard he crashes!! LOL RD takes 10 laps to pass Milsaps so i don't think RV is to worried about it.
The track looks awesome, fast, a good blend of supercross obstacles with the always present Daytona outdoor attrition factor. The long whoop sections will separate the faster riders, although the fact that the track is mostly sand, they will break down early, which will work to Dungeys advantage. My prediction: Dungey, Villopoto, Stewart, Windham, Brayton,
@billC.... why does JS7 call weimer "MY BOY" after his takeout move on weimz at dodger stadium? makes no sense, maybe you can clarify that
I do agree that dunge was faster thru whoops on a zook. but i'm sure KTM figured out a lot after SD. Dunge will be a contender, so will Durham and rocky. barcia and stew will both be taking dirt samples
Musky could run away with it if he can holeshot on the 350
BillC, if you've ever seen a Daytona supercross before, especially recent ones, you know that the whoops are always very rounded, fast, more outdoorsy, than anything you'll ever see in a stadium. They'll suit Dungey and the KTM just fine, not to mention the improvements they've been making and will continue to make. We're in for an excellent race, the top three all have a great shot, I'm sure Stewart will be fast as always at Daytona, but I don't really see him putting it all together so quickly, although stranger things have happened.
@ OrganDoner, you are kidding right?
I like Muskin but he has ZERO chance of winning this race. Never ridden Daytona, still slightly intimidated by Supercross Class and it's racers. This is the most hyped, intimidating, fastest, longest race of all of them. ZERO Chance, I say!
warrior462.. JS is putting it together, Last week he rode way better then his 5th place tells. I would not be shocked if he won this weekend. Cores if he keeps getting 15th place starts it's not going to happen!!
OrganDoner... Ummmmmmmmmm not touching that one LOL....
WAIT I thought weimer was RD's beotch!!
I wouldn't be shocked if he won either, it was a mistake if that's how my post came across. Starts are a huge part of having it all put together, and his have been just miserable. Sure, anytime he's on two wheels he's fast, but how often is he for a full race these days? If there is a single race that can turn things around, Daytona would certainly be it. Although, I have to point out, that Villopoto and Dungey both put in faster average laps than Stewart last week. That doesn't count his first lap crash. Riding well, yes, but still not as fast as the Ryans. Some may say he was in traffic, but Dunge was stuck behind a bunch of slower guys for a while, and Poto had no need to really push for a good portion of the race.
I don't understand everybody wanting whoops like San Diego, I think they are bad for racing all around. They spread out the field so there are fewer battles, hence less excitement. With such a spread out field there are more quickly and frequently lappers getting in the way. Can someone explain to me what is good about them? I just don't get it.
Long whoop sections are cool and challlenging. I think it makes for exciting racing. They don't use the whoops like they did in the past, long and deep. It will test the riders skills as they attack them. I realize that not all riders favor them, but them again it's to create a more challenging course.
I agree with some of you, Stewie is always fast here.. He might not always win here, but he is always fast. I think the track breaking down has an affect on Stewies results. Its what caused his crash last year.. It wouldnt shock me if Stewie wins, he is due. A guy who is that fast usually dont go that long without a win.
@czmark--you are right, whoops were alot tougher in years past. I think the TV packages have changed that because they think high speeds look better for TV than slowly and skillfully going through the whoops. Well not slow, but slower..I think they need to take the whoops back to yesteryear.. The bikes have gotten so much more powerful and the suspensions are so much more advanced.. The jumps have gotten harder, but the whoops have gotten easier..
I think Stewart has a very good shot at winning this one.I think if him an RV are up front going for the win, that RV will let him have it if it comes down to possibly crashing out.I mean,JS is 53 points out!I dont think RV is going to battle too hard with him at this point. It would be awesome if they do though!
Dungey is so solid,he could win too!Never know.
I really want to see how Durham does here also.
Stewart is going to be first for sure....
First one to the Asterisk Mobile Medical Unit..... LOL
@bd200- interesting point on the television packages and what they want to show. For me, I have no idea how much influence they may have on track construction. Hopefully not to much or these riders will only be making left turns. lol
@bd200- Racerx had a good article on whoops in last months issue, not sure if you caught it. I thought it was interesting talking about laying down telephones in the ground at Ascot, then again at Daytona. I remember those, racing night motocross at Ascot as a young squire!
I hope they have the camera mounted on the mule again. Those side by side views at speed along the whoop sections where awesome last year!
I really hope JS doesn't crash, he has always been the fastest at Daytona, I'm sure if doesn't he will win for sure. Awesome whoop section.
I saw the weather and it looks like it will rain, that would suck.
I can just hear Gary Bailey laughing right now.......
Stewart must be getting close to his longest winless streak ever- last year at 7 or 8 I think? He seems due for a win- but something crazy usually happens at Daytona. Pirelli front tire + Wet grass = It will be entertaining for sure. I agree with the poster who said- 'Stewart' should go back to using the '259'- Number seven hasn't brought much luck.
@czmark-- I remember a few years back when they were grooming the outdoor tracks and smoothing them out, even between motos, Davy Coombs himself said the faster speeds on the smooth tracks came off better on TV.. And they were trying to sell it better on TV for a better TV deal from the networks.. It was all about the TV deal, and more money.. I think it was the biggest reason they moved the races to Saturday too. It sucks I think, at least they let the tracks get rough again after hearing all the fans raise hell..
This track design is ALLOT like the track designs that were used for the Daytona Tracks during the 80's, with Bailey, Hannah, and Schultz: long, fast and rough...I've walked around previous Daytona tracks, and EVERY year they are rougher than any other track on the schedule...
RV wont' race JS for the win at Daytona for two reasons:
1. He's not in this series
2. To lure him into riding the Nats so he can take him outdoors and spank him there as well :)
Dungey could be the lynch pin in a KTM takeover of Florida. I'm pretty confident of their chances in Enduro & GNCC. That would drop a lot of jaws, whether you like him or not.
