Your Collection: Itailjet 1979 50

Tuesday, February 28, 2012 | 1:00 PM

This weeks collection comes to us from Doug Gilliland.

I got my Itailjet when I was five home from school with the chicken pocks. My dad needed some parts for his bike and brought me with him to the dealer the little 50 was right by the door and I wouldnt get off it till he agreed to buy it.The next day we came back and picked it and a yz 80 up for my older brother. My dad made me sit and puss it around till my brothers bus droped him off. Then he wanted me to start it to get the feel of it but I took off through the back yards he didnt know I could ride already. He was chasing me till he figured I was ok. I dosent feel that long ago.

Now that is a HUGE throttle grip. Compensating for something?

Great restore! That thing is a jewel.

I have one italjet 50 and two indian 50's. All with 8" wheels not 10" like shown here. Two out of the three run. I found a guy online and bought some spare parts and tires a few years back. Parts are very rare to find.

Also for the guy asking about the rear brake lever. It has a cable running to the handle bar and a lever just like the front.
