Come on. Lets find out why so many riders are getting hurt. Once a fun sport for familys has become a loosing sport.
To the guys hurt! Heal up quickly!
To the guys with neck injuries!! WEAR ONE!! Any brand please!!!!!!
Brayton has a concussion and was allowed to racelast weekend?? AMA/Feld/Aterisks Mobile, haven't you heard of Second Impact Syndrome? This is serious stuff!! A second hit to the head shortly after an inital concussions can cause some serious problems, short and long-term. Are they not trained to assess this at the track? If not, they should be and in the meantime send them to emergency.
Brayton likely should not be racing this weekend (has he gone through the proper levels of progression of without systom and medicine free? Do teams have concussion protocol in place?), let alone racing within hours of his concussion last week.
I remember a couple riders last year (I believe Rattray and Hansen) mentioning in interviews after crashes last year that they were ok, just a mild concussion so they raced. I guess riders/teams consider no broken bones to be the indicator that a rider is "OK". Wow, they should be more concerned with their brain than their arm or leg.
Have the braintrust of SX/MX not been paying attention to the NHL and NFL and how they are dealing with concussions and their increased awareness and policies? Furthermore, they don't have to look very far to see the implications of riding/racing too soon after a concussion(s). Anybody remember Broc Hepler?
Ok, rant over. I just can't believe how concussions seem to be taken so lightly in our sport.
.... Oh, and there's not really any such thing as a "Mild Concussion". They're all concussions/brain injuries, just some have more mild symptons.
There is no safe way to fly and land a 250 pound motorcycle. Every aspect of this sport is incredibly dangerous and exciting, and the spectators always scream for more. The injuries listed above are the same ones that people experience every day in automobile accidents. I feel safer on a motorcycle racing towards the first turn with people I trust than on a highway with a sixteen year old texting while driving in the other lane. Pity the fallen, but accept the reality. Ride until you can't ride any more, and then curse the day you must quit.
I totally agree PK15. There is no way of them knowing the full extent of the concussion until proper evaluation and dignostics are done. A concussion is a brain injury or swelling of the brain due to trauma. Thus can be very dangerous.
If you follow hockey, Sydney Crosby was out for over a year and was fully monitored by top Doctor's because he suffered a concussion. He was cleared to play and the symptoms all came back after his first game.
These racers are not monitored enough. The rider if asked if he is good to go will say he is, they are bred to race. Thats what they do. They need to be evaluated and properly montored before and after crashes more thoorough. They say the motor skills of the brain are off and it can not react as if it was before the concussion whether it be mild or severe among other symptoms.
As a result of this, more crashes, head and other injuries, injuries to other riders and even death.
I'm not a Doctor but we have seen other sports and atheletes make the concussion issue top priority. Why shouldn't motocross/supercross!!!!!
(Maybe that is why Bubba keeps crashing like never before, and looks "a little off" He has raced since he was 3, i'm sure he has had his fair share of head trauma. I wonder if he has been evaluated medically for it.)
Just a thought...............
Agreed that head injuries need more attention/monitoring.
@ Teeps99.......Regarding Bubba and head injuries, I couldn't believe the track crew basically put him on his bike at Daytona last year, just proves your point. Guy couldn't even stand barely.
@Retardcross,, I agree, Stewie was looped... But, they did say its the riders choice if he/she wants to continue..
How come no report on how the King is doing? He broke his arm 6 weeks ago. Look, I realize a mere mortal would be still holed up, but this is King Kenny Rotznase we are talking about here. So, can you confirm he´s fit and well and ready and able to kick a bit of yankie butt? Damn, this is gonna be soooooo sweet.
Every week ...a longer list..
Come Las vegas all C riders will be battling it out,we will be out of A and B racers!!!
Just hope nobody gets hurt in a more serious manner.
The AMA and Asterisk medical unit are taking steps to address this problem. They have a baseline test given to the riders before the season, and when they have a serious crash re-test them (compare it to baseline test) before they go back on the track.Brayton was tested and released to race. This is not mandatory in SX (this year) but is for the nationals.
That was the most awsome thing i've ever seen in supercross, when Stewart was trying to get up and kept falling down, then all those guys had to show him where his bike was and put him on it and hold him up.Thats what makes this sport so hardcore. Stewart is the most hardcore of them all! He is the EVEL KNIEVEL of supercross. Screw sittin riders on the sidelines. Who cares about head injuries. This aint no sport for sissys or cry babies. You need those points no matter what every race. I have not heard one mention about REED & DUNGEY NOT RUNNIN NECK BRACES THIS YEAR. Am I the only one that noticed? Screw those goofey looking things anyway. If you land wrong they might cause more damage than good! STEWART GONNA WIN IT TONIGHT!
