Ryan Morais Update
Friday, February 3, 2012 | 1:55 PMHere is an update we received earlier today from Hannah Morais regarding Ryan Morais' condition.
This has been a week filled with Doctors appointments and surgery! We saw the neurosurgeon first where we got the good news that Ryan’s vertebrae are not fractured. Our next appointment was with the oral surgeon. He feels confident that Ryan’s jaw will heal. Ryan had a three-hour surgery on Tuesday evening where they put a plate in to put back together his upper jaw that was broken in four places. They also rewired his whole mouth to improve alignment. His mouth will now be wired shut for the next six weeks. He spent the night in the hospital, but is home again. We are getting pretty good at finding things to put together in our blender. The last appointment was with a neurologist. He is going to help us with the post concussion syndrome care. Ryan’s spirits are good as he now begins the healing process.
We cannot begin to tell you how blessed we as a family feel from the outpouring of support given by our family, friends, Motocross Community, and fans during these past two weeks. If I know one thing for sure it is that the Motocross Community is much more that just people who come together every weekend to race. We are one big family. Ryan, Krue and I feel beyond loved and cared for. We appreciate every prayer, thought, email, card and donation more that you will ever know.Did you like this article?

Thats great to hear, keep healing Ryan and we hope to see you back on the track!!
IMHO, get a quality blender; a vitamix or something comparable ($200-$500 but worth it!). You should already have one of these anyway. This way you can blend up almonds, flaxseed and other nutritional solids into a liquid, minimizing food particles getting caught in Ryans new jaw hardware. A quality blender is key! Here’s a general recipe that I do: almonds, banana, peach, strawberries, orange, mango, apple, pineapple (has enzyme that aids in digestion), blueberries and acai (both loaded with antioxidents), a scoop of low fat, low sugar greek yogurt (has beneficial bacteria good for the GI tract). Then I add a handful of ice and a splash of apple juice, pineapple juice, orange juice, peach juice (all 100% juices from Trader Joe’s). As it’s blending throw in some vitamin C, flaxseed, and the appropriate carbo or protein powder.
For me, no fruit is off limits; you prefer raspberries and grapes? Throw em in! No two drinks I blend are the same….but all of them are extremely tasty and nutritious.
Another tip: Use your fruit when it’s as fresh as possible, but before it over ripens chop it up and freeze it in zip-lock baggies for future use. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you this, but Ryan, the blender is your friend for the next 6 weeks!
I had my jaw broke in 1990. Had it wired shut for 6 weeks also.. Yes, the blender will get used frequently. I also was a Pro at making milk shakes.. Ryan, when you get those jaws un-wired, don't be thinking you are going to go out and eat a steak or something. I couldn't even eat lasagna for a few days. Let me guess, do have the scissors around your neck right now ????
All sounds good,get well.
@motoxdoc....thanx for the recipe.
great to hear,,, that was a ruff deal for Ryan....it almost looked like the crash was worse on him because he was trying to get away from landing on TC.
