No news compared to yesterday, but finally some desired information about a f*cking energy drink.
Get well Ryan.
Get well soon Ryan!
Wonder what Roido Hughes has to say about Trey's neck brace now?
That neck brace saved Trey's life!!!!
Get well Ryan Morais!!!!!!
mxpker......easy....! I think it's alittle premature to say that it saved his life ?.....how do we know that the neck brace didnt cause some of the injury's ?
@sleekstak: cause some of the injury?? what????? Canard has NO injury to his neck!!!
Neck braces are a comfort thing, I think there has been more neck injuries since they arrived just due to the fact the intensity of the sport is rising a huge amount. They are just as unproven as they are proven, it's a comfort thing. If you wear one you can at least say you tried your best to be as safe as possible I guess.
To add to that..........neck, head, and severe internal injuries are happening a lot more regardless of braces. Some people say their neck brace saved their life every time they hit the dirt.
If you look at the pic of Morais landing on Canard, he lands right on his head/neck. It may not have "saved his life" but it probably played a role in saving his neck from breaking.
you could be right...im just saying since it's designed to keep your neck from moving anywhere, im just thinking with no play or movement i would think it could also cause some injuries too.....but i imagine better to have it on then nothing...
What an idiotic debate. Get well soon Ryan!
sleekstak: have you worn one?? there is movement and play when you wear one. It's not like you can't turn your head at all! In fact you can look almost comepletey back over your shoulder!
I'm just saying all of this because I think so many people have a strange view of what neck braces do.
Screw the neck brace, I wish they would make the tuff blocks a safety barrier and not a safty hazard. The covers need to be removed or fixed where they cannot come off. When are we gonna wake up - when someone dies ? I am sick of seeing covers in racers wheels. Does advertizing HAVE to be dangerouse to our guys ??
neck braces are already here and available and probably getting better, But these two men are hurt bad because a tough block cover got ripped off into treys bike. Make the advertizers create a safe way to get their name on them, Paint ??
DavidL is right, the tuff block covers are the issue here, completely ridiculous that these things continue to exist in the unsafe fashion they do and nobody has done anything about it. Tie a bungey cord on the bottom, problem solved. This is like having barbed wire on the side of the track at the speed these guys ride. I also agree no triple at the beginning when these guys are bunched is a good rule and anybody who thinks a neck brace is more dangerous worn than not is either in denial or hasn't seen the Don Maeda video of him hitting the tire.
These tough blocks should be constructed in one piece, do away with the cover that can be ripped off and carried away upon contact.
True that - LBiggie! A neck brace MIGHT break your collar bone or bruise some ribs, but i would rather wear one so my neck is kept from going beyond the point its suppose to go! Don't get me wrong, there is no guarantee that it will work at all, but i would still rather wear it.
I agree with the tough block issue! They are a hazard! Should be one piece. Just paint the logo on them. The sponsor should supply the tough block, not just the cover.
The one piece idea is kinda cool. Maybe a solid piece of foam. Like a seat, sturdy foam with logos printed on it. If printing not cool, have stickers on the foam. I think with a few nerds on this blog we might just come up with a nice idea for someone like me to pursue. Once I become rich, I could invite you guys to my own island. On this island, only topless monster girls will be able to serve us drinks...damn, I better get back to work...:)
ON THE NECK BRACE ISSUE: 1st, really glad that these guys weren't injured worse then they were. Next, as a sport, MX needs to evaluate serious injuries and crashes and get as much data as possible so we have conclusive facts and not just a bunch of jackholes running off at the yap on some on-line forum. Trey had a neck brace. Did he have chest/core/back protection? He broke his T-10, T-12 which is right in the middle of the back - right where a motorcycle landed on him! I understand why almost none of the top guys run body protection, but should it be mandated for everyone? I can think of three recent instances where internal injuries caused fatalities in MX... oh, wait, five! (give me a minute and the number will go up!) Would chest/core/back protection have helped at least minimize the injuries to the point that they weren't fatal? The top dudes risk it for performance (not sponsors - stickers adhere really well to plastic), but if everyone had to where it, now its even again. If someone said, "I'm not gonna wear a helmet tonight cause it heats me up and constricts my breathing" would they let him race?
Also, no neck brace on Dungy at LA.
Hands down, braces of all types inherently have pro's and con's...
Hope Morais and Canard make full recoveries. Always sad to see riders downed and unable to do what they love.
The carnage continues. How many more top pros have to be crippled or killed before the promoters & builders start making the tracks safer? Life or death jumps & obstacles are not needed in SX /MX; the best riders will still win. Canard, Fonseca, Jason Ciarletta, James Marshall, Button, Donovan Mitchell, etc. etc. etc. All unnecessary...... Jim Myerson
Thank god, was expecting vertebrae damage, but awesome no spinal cord injuries to both Trey Canard or Ryan Morias. That is awesome, get well soon both of you!
It seems like ryan go the bad end of the stick. trey for the crash came out pretty lucky. you would thnk that trey would be the one with serious injurys. There was definately someone watching over him
a paper tear away advertising campaign would work so they can be changed easily. I wish the guys would wear shoulder pads that protect the back bone and internal organs. Seems they have had alot of injuries since they stopped using them. Banners gotta go too. That stitched crap that gets in your break almost cost Grant a win a while back. His only win...
