MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - MX Sports Pro Racing and Alli Sports announce that the brand new Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park will become the new home of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, in Southern California. On the heels of announcing the 2012 series schedule and advance ticket sales for next summer, both parties are pleased to welcome the completely renovated Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park as the host site of the season finale, set to take place on Saturday, September 8, 2012.
Located in the hotbed of the motocross industry, and about an hour outside of the major metropolitan areas of Los Angeles and San Diego, Lake Elsinore serves as an ideal location for fans of the sport across the entire southern portion of the state. It's also well-known to students of the sport's history as the site of the Lake Elsinore Grand Prix, which was featured prominently in the epic motorcycle racing documentary film On Any Sunday back in 1971 - one year before the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship was born.
"A successful search has landed the Pro Motocross finale at what we feel is the ideal location for a national event in Southern California," said MX Sports President Davey Coombs. "This is a brand new facility that was built from the ground up to host such an event, and offers riders one of the best layouts of any track in the country. We like to close out the summer where the sport of motocross thrives, and we believe we've found the perfect place in Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park."
The Marc Peters-designed venue is state-of-the-art in terms of motocross and features multiple elevation changes, spectacular obstacles, and easy access for the fans. The facility was designed with not only riders but spectators in mind as well, with paved roads and walkways, lush landscaping, camping amenities and designated areas at multiple elevations for viewing.
"Sight lines might be one of the most underrated values of what makes or breaks any motocross track for the fans," said Peters, himself a former pro racer and the son of recent Motorcycle Hall of Fame inductee Stu Peters. "We built this so there isn't a bad spot to watch from, no matter where you choose to stand. It was our dream to host a national and in an effort to do so, we took away from all the various experiences at the many tracks that have been a part of American Motocross in the past to make what we hope to be the ideal motocross facility, for both riders and spectators."
The original Lake Elsinore track was a local hotspot for many years, but over time, newer venues throughout the region garnered the attention of enthusiasts and pros, ultimately forcing it to shut its doors two years ago. After months of sculpting and fine-tuning, the new Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park opened its doors to the public the first weekend in December. While the facility is ready for business (and has been getting rave reviews for the complete makeover) there is still plenty of work to be done, including the completion of a full Lucas Oil four-wheel off-road short course stadium on the property and the finishing touches of what will be the site of the final round of the 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.
In addition to hosting the best riders on the planet this September, Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park will also be the final stop of the Women's Motocross Championship. The eight-race season will feature the fastest women riders in the world, including multi-time champions Ashley Fiolek and Jessica Patterson, bringing a fitting conclusion to what is sure to be a memorable final weekend for Pro Motocross and the inaugural national event at Southern California's newest facility.

I've seen the videos. Looks like a great facility, I'm sure they have great folks running it. But not a national caliber track. Is there no national caliber track in southern CA now?
yeah I agree defintiely not a nation caliber track..Glen Helen is the only track worth have a national at
I live in Lake Elsinore, and even though this would be a 15 minute drive from my house, I would much rather have this race at Glen Helen! I don't know what the deal is with the AMA and that Track but seriously glen helen is as EPIC as it gets. I think every single person on this site will agree with me. The Elsinore track is cool... but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BRING BACK GLEN HELEN!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Kxpwr18 its not the AMA is the owner of Glen Helen, hes too greedy and wants way more money
Such a bad decision. That place is flatter than Pala and has less parking. Can't believe they chased the money and forgot about all the riders. Take a vote from the riders and I bet 98% wouldn't want it there. They can't even water with that dirt! They don't even have water lines! Glen Helen doesn't want it because they are tired of MX Sports sticking it to them. This race will loose Elsinore money! After they invested all they have for that pretty fencing they will never recoup. This race will be the beginning of the end of Elsinore Raceway. Sad deal.
Ok. Elsinore is brand new right now. Stu and Mark have a lot of time to get input and make some track changes as the national gets closer. Just look at every other track that hosts a national. They close for a week and when we see the track in national form it is way different than when average Joe gets to ride it. I've been saying to give Elsinore a chance for months now. I think it will be just fine....
Will be cool to see something new
Thats fine but again the Southeast is left out , I have 5 Nationals here in the Northeast but would be pissed if I lived in Florida, It should be about the fans and not money
I give DC and the MX Sports crew props for their hard work to improve the series.
I will say that I'm glad I was able to see a National at GH before the series left. That is an incredible track and great for viewing.
Whatever the reason, I wish they would bring Glen Helen back. With that said, I 'll be there to check out what LE has to offer.
I am sure it is a grerat new facility, but just an outdoor supercross if you ask me. This decision is ALL ABOUT MONEY.. And its sad. They will charge tickets to get in, and then charge again to sit in all the bleachers around the track, calling them VIP. It sucks..
Fans and riders Biglou35...You can't see crap from the track at Elsinore. You see one side or the other. That plateau they built will hold a couple thousand people that's it.
I'm all about ending the series in SoCal...but Glen Helen is a better facility. That being said, I'm willing to give Lake Elsinore a chance...if they will stick to outdoor course layouts instead of Supercross. Also, the southeast used to be the hotbed of mototcross back many years ago...but they stay away from there because the promoters won't put up with getting reamed by mxsports and the ama. There used to be a LOT of motorcycles sold when the series covered all areas of the country...and now the manufacturers complain that sales are down. If they want to sell mototcross bikes...let's get some events in EVERY area of the nation ( and Canada ). The good ole boys need to open it up like it used to be.
I have mixed feelings, I`m glad it`s a new track and sure it will be great to watch .. but Jeez, nothing for us south Eastern fans again? I live down in South Florida and I`m not asking for a track to be on my doorstep, but give us southern fans a peice of the outdoor action too. They should rotate the tracks and drop one track per year to be replaced by something new somewhere else, I have to admit even the best long standing venues out there now are starting to get boring to watch
.
The owner of GH wants too much money. GH isn't an option because of greed so quit yer crying and forget about GH holding a National. It's over, done, kaput. Get over it...
You all cried about Pala because it was flat and now yer crying about Lake Elsinore. F'ing bunch of whiners. Just be glad we have nats to go to and tracks that want to host nats and keep their facilities open in this economy.
I'm glad they steppped up and I'll be there supporting our sport without the diapers and binky. You all should do the same.
@SCMOTODUDE ... not enough parking? They have the ENTIRE lakebed to make room for parking. Come on now.
All of you complainers, yet you all will attend and enjoy it. Stop being a bunch of pansies and enjoy the racing and the chance to have a nat nearby, unlike the Southeast. :p
It's been open a whole ONE month... I'm sure they aren't even close to having the facility to its full potential. Same goes for the track layout. They have put in a lot of time and effort, and I doubt they will let their first national be a dud.
I swear, all of you bench racers are a bunch of little girls... go enjoy your daughters cheerleading events. Us real moto guys will enjoy a race no matter if its in a home depot packing lot or a Red Bud caliber track.
#rant
@TIGOLE... thank you, 100% agreed.
They said all the same things about Pala when they first annonced it. There used to be a big difference between Supercross and Motocross. There was a pretty big difference between each outdoor track too. They are starting to blend together with these cookies cutter tracks like the last few they added (Freestone, Pala & Elsinore). Bring back some hills!
Seeing how Florida/Georgia is the other motocross capital of the United States, I'm wondering why there isn't a single Outdoor National down here?
Gotta be beter than Glen Helen...........what a hole.
MONSTER MOUNTAIN, please
Between Montgomery, AL and Atlanta, GA
I rode two days at Lake Elsinore last week and I can tell you that it is not a supercross track, yes it's not the caliber of Glen Helen but with the space and the access they have there it will be just fine for a National. The track has amazing flow I thik around 50 feet of elevation change and the staff kept the track in premium condition throughout the day even on the one day there were only 30 or 40 guys there and they made sure we got our money's worth. I personally would love to see a national at the Hollister hills GP track but I know that will never happen. I applaud the guys who poured the money and effort into Lake Elsinore. I am thankful there are still a few guys out there willing to invest in our sport in these dire financial times (for a consumer sport like Motcross the times are Dire) I met the three brothers at A-1 and they are very nice people and very successful businessmen, if anyone has the resources and talent to make a go of this it is definitely them. So quit complaining and go pay the measely $25 to ride this amazing track and have some fun.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I hope MX Sports loses the rights for the AMA Nationals to Youthsteam when their contract expires. Picking Lake Elsinore over any of the available tracks in the southeast is unforgivable. They aren't even pretending to care about the fans anymore.
Wow? Hey put a National in my local park.
I don't care if its new with a national caliber track layout. If it still has the same dirt it will be a dusty, hard packed and ( if watered and not allowed to settle in for about 20 min ) crash fest for the second moto's. Oh yeah it will probably be around 105 degrees around start time in Sept. Still i will be there yeeehaaaaa
I used to ride the old Lake Elsinore a lot and have not been to the new version yet. I will say this though to anyone who wants to watch the best racers in the world.....No track I have ever seen showcases how bad ass all of these riders are more than Glen Helen.
Watching the top pros hit that massive step up or the monster steep up and downhills with 3 foot tall braking bumps pinned is absolutely epic. If you really wanted to see a series finale, Glen Helen was the place to see the best of the best, on the toughest track.
My home track of Washougal is very scenic, but Glen Helen really separated the men from the boys and the shots you see on TV never, ever did the steepness of the hills justice.
From Pala to Lake Elsinore? Outdoor Motocross rule number #1... If the entire track is created with a bulldozer, it's probably not the right place.
