Reed Cements Future for TwoTwo Motorsports

CALIFORNIA: TwoTwo Motorsports Chad Reed has hit the ground running since returning to the USA, today announcing one of the most important partnerships of his career.
Just hours after arriving in California, Reed put pen to paper, cementing his team’s future, with increased support from American Honda for 2012 and beyond.
The Australian, who started TwoTwo Motorsports from scratch just 12 months ago is excited to be expanding his relationship with American Honda and welcomed the consistency that would come from multiple years with the manufacturer.
TwoTwo Motorsports will now have access to a myriad of resources, from design to manufacturing, with the team to be housed at American Honda’s Californian Racing facility, directly next door to the Factory Motocross team.
"In some ways this feels like redemption,” Reed said. “In the beginning the support from American Honda was limited, which was completely understandable given we were a new team without any runs on the board.”
“Our new relationship with American Honda holds so much potential and for me it is a money can’t buy partnership to be associated with a manufacturer that is as equally committed to winning as we are.”
Never before has a rider started a team with such success and American Honda’s multi year commitment to the team show they have confidence that the teams success will continue.
“We are very excited to have TwoTwo Motorsports continue with Honda for 2012 and 2013,” said American Honda Race Team Director Ray Conway.
“Chad enjoyed a tremendous level of success in 2011, his first year ever on Honda CFR450R racing machines.”
“We are all anticipating that his level of success will only increase during the coming year as he and his team continue to build on the great foundation they’ve already established,” Conway continued.
Whilst fans and industry insiders were expecting the announcement of a second rider Reed opted to recruit two key personnel to TwoTwo Motorsports for 2012.
Renowned motorcycle engineer Mike Gosselaar has joined the team as Technical Director and Sergio Avento has taken up the role of Research and Development Manager.
"As a rider, I am responsible for my own performance and I expect to go out there and win, anything else is second best,” Reed continued.
“With a team situation there are so many other things that can affect an outcome, but it was the sheer hard work and dedication of my crew this year that ensured none of those factors influenced our performance.”
“They worked extremely hard 24/7 to create a dynamic within the team that was second to none in the championship. It is the sort of dynamic you normally see within a team that has worked together for years.”
“Recruiting Goose & Sergio will further strengthen that dynamic and provide the additional resources we need to continue building a solid infrastructure around the team,” Reed said.
TwoTwo Motorsports Team Manager Dave Osterman echoed Reed’s sentiments.
“We had a dream year and the dream continues into 2012 & beyond,” Osterman stated.
“I am pleased to say that with our new long term commitment from American Honda coupled with our growing infrastructure Chad Reed & TwoTwo Motorsports will continue to be Championship contenders.”
After working with Reed in 2009 Gosselaar said he was looking forward to teaming up with the Australian again.
“I'm grateful for the opportunity to join TwoTwo Motorsports,” Gosselaar said. “It's a great feeling to be part of this program knowing we're growing into becoming one of the top premier teams.”
“It's also awesome to be back working with American Honda again and great to be supported 100% by them. Bring on 2012.”
Reed will spend the coming months in California testing with his TwoTwo Motorsports team as they prepare for the opening round of the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship, which will be held at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium on Saturday January 7, 2012.

No big surprise, but does it mean no 2nd rider?
Although Reed has a boatload of talent. It would be a good idea to get another rider signed on. Craig might be a good choice.
does 100% support equal essentially a factory bike?
listin to the @pulpmx show from last night as reed called in and hear everything as it is right from the man hisself without rumors and speculation
Not a big Reed fan, but cool to see Honda step up and support the team.
The aritcle states that he opted not to recruit a 2nd rider and hired Sergio instead.....so looks like its all Chad for 2012 and for sure he will be on the factory equivlent machine....
A very good deal for both Team Two Two and for Honda. It is a win win deal for both. I also wonder yet if Team 2,2 will be able to support another rider I would hope for someone on the 250 4 banger would be best for promotional purposes. Good luck to all!
With Reed staying on Honda the only bike manufacturer without a guy who has a chance to win every week is Suzuki. Metty is strong 5th-6th when everyone is healthy.

Smart move for Honda. But I don't see many wins. RV and JS will be 1-2 and Reed and Rd will fight for 3rd with TC . Thats my guess anyway. Would love to see a 5 man battle all the way again but don't think it will happen. I hope I am wrong.
Nothing about Lars? Did he get kicked to the curb?
Lars is still Chad's mechanic..... Goose is the techincal director , Sergio R&D......
Awesome opportunity to Reed and the crew. I think he'll do better at the start of this season than he did at the beginning of last season. He's had a lot of time on the bike and now has support from Factory Honda and now has Goose in his corner as well. I can't wait for January 7th. The 2012 Supercross & Outdoor Nationals are shaping up to have the potential to be the best ever.
At this juncture; now that the team has key personnel estab. I wouldn't be suprised to see a second rider in 2013 or perhaps Reed retiring next year after the seasons' conclusion and getting two riders for his program and going from there. That's what I'd speculate on, but it's exactly that: Speculation...
Reed stated that he himself (Chad Reed) has a 1 year contract with Two Two Motosports (yes his own contract) to race 2012.......Honda's support of Two Two is 2 years, so 2012 may be his last year if he doesnt pull out any titles.....2013 would then become the year Two Two signs a new rider, but Reed could still race in 2013 if he wants too and is having fun...But I think it all depends on how 2012 goes for him personally....Two Two as a team is coming together with Reed as the rider....and when he is ready to retire, the team will be a fine tuned operation....
Good for Reed. They should pick up Christian Craig and get him a trainer. The guy showed he's fast and is already familiar with the bike. Looking for Reed to give James fits again this year. Man what a great 450 class it will be this year. Can't wait.
GOOD FOR REED! hope he does awesome. just for the record he said he will be on factory bikes on twitter. does anyone have a link to the pulpmx interview?
It's not going to be easy to pick a favorite this year, the field is STACKED!!
There are a buch of guys who have a chance to win at any time if things go right!
RV,CR,JS,RD,TC,JG,IT,KW all these guys are sick and can make it happen!!
Hurry up and get here Anaheim 1!!!!!!
This 'Reed, Dungey, and Canard are chasing 3rd' mentality is so naive. This is a 5 man dog fight every weekend, more than that outdoors. Reed is on the same bike 2 years in a row with better staff. In May, he'll be in the thick of things again.
Jeremy McGrath (my all time fav) is eating a little crow right about now. Two Two and JGR are doing things on their terms and doing well- yes, I left Moto Concepts out of that intentionally.
There hasnt been much chatter surrounding the MC/Brooks team....They too are riding red, so I wonder what type of "support" they will receive and what other riders aside from Shorty they will field.....Was the Two Two Honda deal holding up the show for MC/Brooks?.... I cant imagine that Honda wouldnt provide MC with factory bikes considering their relationship......more to come I am sure....
2012 will be even better than 2011 it seems.....so we can only wait an see.....waiting is the hard part
It was interesting listening to Reed on the Pulpmx show talk about how his talks with Suzuki were pretty heavy and then suddenly went quiet, about the same time that zook was down testing with JS, he said he thought they sort of jacked themselves on getting a big name signing and that he and James were in contact with each other the whole time discussing what was going on...too funny, can't figure those two out!! He also definitely said that he is basically taking out one year contracts on himself and reassessing how he feels each year........and i don't blame him one bit!! It's already become cliche` to say this, but I cannot wait for A1.
Here ya go MotoX5.....http://www.pulpmx.com/pulpmx-show/2011/11/pulpmx-show-nov-7-chad-reed-kyle-chisholm-kyle-partridge-archive

Pitbull, I LOVE KTM!!! I own one and might get another, I just think RD will need some time to get his bike diled. It is a HUGE change and he even said he was not happy with his Suz this year so whats that tell ya? RV is the man to beat IMO, No question his program is way ahead of RD's and look how he ended last season!! He got stonger every week. I say RV and JS willl again win the most races and baring geting hurt one of them will be the champ. RD is better outdoors anyway. He only won 1 SX last year and I think this year will be ever harder. My biggest hope is thay all stay healthy like last year. I am not bagging on RD at all I hope I am wrong cuz I want to see KTM winning and not to just shut up the haters either.
Indeed Bill C..... RV and JS7 I agree will be to the two dominant guys in SX. RV is the guy to beat since he is the champ and I think JS7 still has it in him to do it.... Will Dungey be up front??? Sure, but unless RV and JS7 are buried in the pack or down, I dont think he will find the win column too easily. He will make it on the box consistently I am sure, but only 1 win last year and a more stacked field this year spells trouble for him.....I think TC will fall in right behind JS7 and RV once the season moves into rounds 4 and 5.....and Reed, who knows....he'll be up there too....but cant say if he'll be on top of the box much....
lotta eggs in one basket. reed is awesome, but if he gets hurt they need a second top rider.
I do think it will be a good marriage for Reed, As far as the Brooks/Jeremy team, I would suspect they give them limited support like the did Two Two last season, until they prove themselves, they will provide Reeds team first. They are sharing property as far as their team shops.
Ahhh... Man rule 18- don't agree with Bill C; even if he's right. I hate to go all Fro's keys to the race here, but there are 17 guys that are potential top 5- and Alessi that have to make it through the the first turn clean. You don't think Stew and the million dollar man will get caught up from time to time? Some big names are going to be missing some mains this year. Ima poet.
I agree BILLC. Dungey loved the Suzuki and still only managed one win and he had his bike dialed. Stewie should be even more ready than last year with a great team like JGR behind him, it should ease his mind a little not dealiong with a idiot like Brooks, and we all know JGR has the bike dialed, look at what they did with Millsaps. And RV is the reigning champ, and he will get his wins also. Doesnt look like many oppurtunities for Dungey, as much as I like the guy. I hope I am wrong ahd there are multiple winners, with Reed and Canard in there as well. But it sure doesnt seem that way.
Jake511There are only a few that can win without things falling into place. Sure RV and JS will have some bad starts but over all they will be the two fastest guys who can come thru the pack better than any others. Look at RD, The one win he got last year was a race he got the holeshot in and RV and JS were on the ground. If he gets the start he is tough but RV and JS can win from outside the top ten on the first lap I don't think you can say that about any of the others.
.PS. don't be scared to agree with me I am pretty smart :-) LOL
looks like goose has come full circle (well sought of ) this next season is going to be so hard to predict. JS7 looks confident and happy RV1 only knows one way to turn his throttle and the other 3 can match the pace everyones usually tenths of seconds apart oh boy this will be a good one
Bring back the Reedy we saw at Millville right before the crash. He was untouchable. He had both Ryans covered.
I can't disagree with BillC. RV came into 2011 recovering from a badly broken leg, and he won both titles. Coming into 2012 he is light-years ahead of where he was at this time a year ago, which is scary for everyone else. Not to mention, we all saw him get even faster between May and September. I think they are all in a world of hurt. I see RV romping often, and Canard giving Stewart fits over 2nd. I see Reed and Dungey off their pace a bit and fighting over 4th mostly. I don't think Dungey gets a single win this year in SX. I hope I'm wrong about Dungey, but I can't base predictions on hope. The Suzuki was good to him, maybe better than he knows right now.
B-KR, sounds like you suffer from a case of RV-itis!! The guy had a great year no doubt, but lets not go giving him the titles just yet.....i'm betting he's gonna have his issues this year too!! "Romping often"??? Somebody has an obsession i think!!lol
@bigtireguy... Good point... But bear in mind that Honda has scaled down their road racing division on bikes.. So Reed said it himself.. Honda will provide 4 factory bikes for 2012... Which is not bad... Honda wants to be back in front... Or, they want to beat RV! Ha,ha
REF-man.... No one is giving anyone a title, Its called a prediction!!! And YES RV did Romp often. Who do youthink will win?? Tell us so we can tell u you have XXX -itis!!
@BillC, clearly the response of somebody who is also afflicted with RV-itis, or Villo-mania..haha.....i personally don't have an obsession with one rider or a prediction of outcome, but i've noticed that if somebody were to predict a "romping" being done by a rider with the initials J and S, they would get attacked for it. I'm just being fair!
Not afflicted with anything, Thats how I see it going down why does that make you think I am a RV nut hugger?? Just because ya think someone will win makes you obsessed with them?? That is a streach!! How could you not have a feeling about who will win?? That seems odd to me.
Chad is clearly building a very serious team that is not only capable of winning both championships with him as the only rider in 2012. One that will no doubt have the resources and men behind it who are all ready champions, have worked with champions and have ran championship teams. Now for the 2013 season with all these great personnel and resources he will be able to attract and sign some pretty big names to ride for 22 motorsports. Maybe Dean Wlison, Justin Barcia, Cristian Craig just to name a few. This team is for real and looks like its going to be around a long time.
Well, BillC, it is difficult because those guys are all so close that it will be misfortune that makes the difference...i just think it is really hard to confidently pick a champ right now!!
