2011 Supercross – The Greatest Season Ever Recap Show to Lead into Monster Energy Cup Live Coverage
AURORA, Ill.– Feld Motor Sports® announced today that SPEED™ will broadcast the inaugural Monster Energy Cup at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium live on October 15 at 10:00 p.m. ET. The lead into the live Monster Energy Cup coverage will be a one-hour season recap of 2011 Supercross – The Greatest Season Ever beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET.
SPEED will deliver 3.5 hours of live television coverage to the fans at home. Host Ralph Sheheen, a 23-year veteran motorsports broadcaster, and color analyst Jeff Emig, a three-time AMA Champion, will man the booth along with special guest Ricky Carmichael as pit reporter Erin Bates, life-long motorcycle enthusiast, captures all of the behind-the-scenes action.
“There’s no better way to kick off the inaugural Monster Energy Cup than providing the fans at home 3.5 hours of live television coverage,” said Dave Prater, director of supercross, Feld Motor Sports. “With the help of a live broadcast on SPEED, fans who aren’t able to make it to Vegas for this historical race will have the chance to witness the world’s best riders lay it all on the line for the Monster Million at the convenience of their own home.”
“Anytime someone starts talking about the possibility of winning $1 million, hearts beat faster, adrenaline starts flowing… you can bet someone will find a way to do more than they ever thought they could,” said SPEED President Hunter Nickell. “We expect all this and more from riders at the inaugural Monster Energy Cup on SPEED. This kind of event turns an already exciting experience into a ‘Did you see that?!’ opportunity.”
The 2011 Monster Energy Supercross Championship went down as the Greatest Season Ever with five different winners, Ryan Villopoto, Chad Reed, James Stewart, Ryan Dungey and Trey Canard. For the first time in the sport’s 38-year history, four riders went into the season finale with a shot to win the title. SPEED will relive the rigorous 16-week season that eventually crowned Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto with the first Supercross class title of his career.
“A better script could not have been written for the 2011 Monster Energy Supercross season,” said Prater, “It was a parity-driven season that fans can relive on SPEED before the inaugural Monster Energy Cup kicks off 3.5 live hours of coverage.”
“Riding the wave of the ‘Greatest Season Ever,’ SPEED is excited to get the 2012 season started with live coverage of the inaugural Monster Energy Cup,” said Nickell.
Tickets for the 2011 Monster Energy Cup can be purchased at the Thomas & Mack Center Box Office, UNLVtickets outlets, online at www.UNLVtickets.com, www.MonsterEnergyCup.com, or by phone at (702) 739-FANS. Tickets will be available at the Sam Boyd Stadium Box Office on the day of the event only.

This will be some good racing, a one-night battle for bragging rights until A1. Hopefully JS7 can get a deal done, it'll be more fun if he's there. Too bad Shorty won't be able to represent the new MC Honda team, but there will be plenty of good racing . . . hammer down boys. I predict 3 different winners, not thinkin' anyone could pull off a trifecta but if someone wins the first 2 that 3rd gate drop will be epic!
you really dont think anyone will win all 3? i think its gonna be a RV runaway. no JS, RD, CR, or TC. so what competition is there gonna be for RV?
Ralph, Emig, Erin and RC. No Weigandt??? Such a silly season.
mxpunk - I just think that with 3 gate drops, only 10 laps to make up for a bad start and 250's mixing it up with 450's that it's highly unlikely RV will get 3 holeshots and/or not have someone show him a wheel at some point. Sure he'd like a $1m check, but bottom line he has to be healthy for A1 and he probably has orders from Kawi to ride smart, if Monster wasn't the sponsor who knows if he'd even be there. No doubt his best competition won't be there, but there will be a full gate of racers, some of which might want to make the highlight reel by making sure the guy with the biggest target on his back doesn't get the check. I guess if you know that RV will take all 3 you don't need to tune in 10/15 to watch what will most likely be some killer racing.
RV has a good chance at all 3 as long as stewart is not there. villopoto is faster than everyone but the no.7 no matter whos there. but they say someone was riding a suzuki pretty fast in florida today
No Weig?! That's too bad.
Stoked about the Speed coverage though!
Ralph Sheheen? damn it.
Dont' know what kills me more watching and listening to the worst broadcaster of all time(Ralphy Boy)or just not watching for that very reason.Jason and Jeff do a great job covering MX,which IMO is far superior to sx,why bring ol' Ralphy Boy into do sx,can't Jason cover sx as well?or exersise the secondary audio found on all tv's so we can just here the beautiful sounds of perfectly tuned bikes and NO talking heads.
If Justin Barcia is on the 450 factory Honda don't count him out. He for sure has the skill to get the hole shot on any rider in the world. With a short race he has a very good chance of doing well.
I wish every rider would be out there, they are always talking about how bad the economy is. But they skip out on a free pay day lol
*Kawasaki big shot to Villipoto*- Hey man, ride smart ok? we need ya for A-1 healthy" *Villipoto*-....."sure thing".......BRRRRRRaaaaaaap.........
@pulleditoff No doubt JS7 WAS the fastest rider out there. WAS. He didn't win the last title he went after. Not even close. So he must get back to his" old self" and prove that he still has "it". Then and only then will he be concidered the fastest. Many people consider him a thing of the past and the longer he stays away, the further he fades from peoples memories. Not baggin' on the boy and his boatload of talent and ability, but this isn't the type of sport where you just sit out and then come back dominating. I think RV and RD have gotten past the former FMOTP. And only time will tell. I won't feel bad if you are right, as long as the good racin' continues.
I wonder if 7 will still be crashing a lot on that suzook. This is kind of like the moment of truth. If he stays upright, then its proof that his yammie wasnt working right. If not- then it must have been him all along.
