So Reed IS doing this race....cool!! That should be a pretty intense event. I just don't see how anybody is going to win all 3 though! Looking forward to it!!

So im a little confused, does this mean that there will be no us open this year? and im guessing dungey may not be there because he wont have had enough time on whatever new brand he`ll be with or the fact that he does not want to risk the getting hurt for the next SX season. This should definitely be interesting either way

I think this IS the US Open. I would bet almost anything RD will be there.

Reed is not racing the Monster Cup......In his interview he did with Steve Cox after MXoD, he basically said " F-that race...i dont care about money I am not racing..I want to go home.."......Reed was the first to commit to the race after he won the Vegas SX.....but he is out now...I am guessing the MXoD was the last race he had support from Honda and they need to figure out what they are doing for 2012.....Stewart is racing and RV is racing, but I never heard if Dungey was or not......2 weeks away basically...so does JS7 roll out on a Yamaha???

Ahh we don't need to worry too much about JS7's ride anyway, even if he wins the first 2 races, he'll yard sale the new ride in the final race and if it isn't blue he'll just say that he doesn't have it dialed in yet. I don't want to say I hope he doesn't show up because he is certainly entertaining, but if he's at the gate there is no way that one guy will win all 3 races, he'll win at least 1 but something will hit the fan . . . no disrespect and I hope he proves me wrong but at this point in his career and with his skill I don't think it's a backwards engine that is ruining his title hopes or a chance at a $1m payday.

motodog77,, its been said many times that the " backwards engine " isnt a good bike. I know a few poeple that rode them and didnt like them at all. Not making excuses, but the fact is that many riders do not like that bike.

mxmofo1.......there are lots of people who love the new generation YZ450 too. The JGR guys seem to be happy. Stewart didn't have an issue consistently throwing the quickest qualifying laps down and winning like 15 or 16 out of 17 qualifying races in his last SX season on the bike. He's always been a yard sale waiting to happen, regardless of brand. If people think we've seen him buckle under pressure in the past when riders have challenged him, imagine what it's going to be like now that there are better riders than him.

Reed is not racing the Monster Cup - Entry list was printed over a month ago....

Here is what Reed said at the conclusion of MXoD:

Question to Reed : What’s the plan now? What are you doing? I heard you’re going back to Australia…

Reed Answer: This is it for me. That’s all she wrote.

Question to Reed: You’re retiring?!

Reed Answer: I’m not quitting! I’m quitting for the year. It’s been a big year. We built a race team in two months, and I’m beat. The crash at Millville took it out of me. Ellie and Tate are back in Australia and I just want to go home. There’s a million-dollar race and I couldn’t give a shit about the money; I just want to go home. I’m going to try to get about five, six weeks, regroup, get a full head of steam and try to go one step better in the Supercross Series and two steps better in the Outdoors next year. TwoTwo Motorsports will be stronger and a little more prepared next year, and I’m excited for it. It’s been a long year through the ups and the downs. When you sift through them, I’m proud and I’m excited for the future.

No more racing for Reed this year.....

Also, I think RV will have something to say about JS winning over him at this point. His red hair won't allow it. If JS is quick enough to be consistently out front still, I foresee a whole lot of RV stalking him and letting the pressure take care of JS. It's definitely the safer option than battling with the time bomb.

Retardcross,, I'm simply telling you what I have read and seen.. I have read that the Yam 450 has equal wieght on both tires and most riders do not care for that.. I have talked to a couple of guys that dont like it either. One guy I know sold his mid-season and got a 2012 Kaw 450 and loves it. He said the Yam was "unpredictable." JS is not riding them, Brayton is going to Honda, and I think Milsaps is also switching, so what does that tell you ?

Profile Picture
mxmofo1 wrote: 5:59pm September 27, 2011

It has been stated many times on the internet that the YAM 450 has totaly diiferent geometry than the others. Its a fact.. But, I'm not saying thats the reason for JS's crash-fest this year, but I do think its part of the reason.

It tells me that riders are switching brands and teams when their contracts end like every year lol.

Profile Picture
mxmofo1 wrote: 6:10pm September 27, 2011

hahaha.. Yea, they are going to anything but Yamaha 450's. Kyle Regal also quit riding them, and hopped on a Zuk ..

thetoothperry wrote: 6:53pm September 27, 2011

If the Yamaha was such a good bike why is one of the most R&D affiliated teams, JGR, switching brands? It SUCKS.

Profile Picture
Retardcross wrote: 7:34pm September 27, 2011

I would doubt JGR is switching due to the bike. If anything they would pride themselves in the development of it. After all, they have said before regarding their riders they prefer to "build" a team rather than purchase one. Everyone knows JGR could buy whoever and whatever they want but they don't. It more likely has to do with the almighty dollar and contracts, just like everything else on the planet including racing. Frossard rides the YZ450F pretty well if you ask me and so does JS7 when he can stay up, the YZ450 isn't what put him on the ground. If it is the bike that causes Stewart to crash then I guess the Kawi's he rode were crap too.

Retardcross wrote: 7:40pm September 27, 2011

My apologies, I forgot to mention Paulin winning the Italian GP on the YZ450 also in his first MX-1 race. And before you use Pourcel disliking the bike as ammo.....well, we might as well not even go there.

Don't forget, that POS YAMAHA YZ 450 WON race #2 last week at the MXDN.....on the guys SECOND race ever on the bike (oh,he WON the first GP that he raced,on the bike as well)......just sayin'

With all that being said Retardcross, i have a feeling that we just MIGHT see a little more consistent Stewart on the Suzuki this year, just a hunch and an opinion. And i actually think he was on the ground a little less when he was on the Kawi. Bikes can make a difference depending on the rider. Reed said he didn't get along with the Kawasaki and everybody seems to want to allow him to make that statement!!

Retardcross wrote: "If JS is quick enough to be consistently out front still, I foresee a whole lot of RV stalking him and letting the pressure take care of JS. It's definitely the safer option than battling with the time bomb."

That was Reed's strategy in '09. Didn't work. Reed was just a half-click off Stewart's pace that year, just like Villopoto is now if not faster, and he had his usual consistency as well (plus killer starts all season).

"If it is the bike that causes Stewart to crash then I guess the Kawi's he rode were crap too."

I don't know how he was on the Kaw, but there's no way he crashed as often as he did this year. In '09, on the Yam, I think he only crashed in two races with the lead, all very minor incidents, and he still got easy seconds both times.

And I know I always go to back to '09, but I think it's a great example of Stewart's remarkable speed AND consistency when he's on. The obvious counter is that he's a headcase when there's more competition and that he'll never take another title with all the new talent, and all I can say to that is "maybe." We really will have to wait and see.

I almost forgot, Pourcel hated the Yam 450 also ... Can anyone tell me if there is someone fast enough to get a top 10 next year on a yam 450 ??

Profile Picture
Retardcross wrote: 8:47am September 28, 2011

Pourcel was coming back from injury and leading a 450 moto comfortably wasn't he when he pulled off? I personally think he was out of shape still and the bike was a scapegoat. If you look at Pala's 450 overall results, there are 8 YZ450's between 8th place and 20th place. It's not winning, but top 20 in an AMA national is respectable. Brayton and Smith both in the top 10. Out of the full gate there were 17 YZ450's. These are the country's fastest riders, almost half of the gate at Pala was on a Yamaha. Just because the cream of the crop aren't on it doesn't make it a crap bike.

My fellow ginger RV is my man.....But JS7 is still a serious threat for titles in my opinion....2010 was a injury year unfortunatley and 2011 JS7 still showed on many occasions that he was still the fastest guy out there....Whether it was a bike issue or a head issue, he had some things to work out.....Compare JS7 2011 year to Reeds 2010 year and something was just "off"....Reed says he didnt gel with the Kawasaki so he made some BIG changes...and to his credit....it seemed to make a difference....So now JS7 appears to be doing the same thing....maybe running his own team (really on his own since he didnt have the entourage Reed does) is too much for him at this point so he is taking a step back and focusing on the riding part...or JS7 and JGR is a partnership now and JGR handles the business part.....we'll see....but dont count JS7 out...he still has a good 3-4 years in the tank

Just so we're clear. It's always easier when they don't argue, that's for sure.

Sorry for not acknowledging you Whoops_Blitzer, I agree and disagree with some things but regardless you actually back up your claims with some insight and reasoning and I can respect that. Just saying something sucks like some people with no foundation for your claims isn't a good argument to me. I'll be the first to recognize the YZ450F is a different bike than the rest, doesn't make it crap though just because JS7 said so. He's always buckled under pressure and the bike is an easy escape instead of admitting the competition is too much to handle now. We all know his ego can't deal with that. There is just as much information to support how good the bike is as there is to shoot it down. I think the fact 17 bikes in the 450's at Pala says a lot. I'm too lazy to look at every weekend so hopefully the trend is similar at other events to support my argument haha. Like I said before, 8 YZ450's between 8th place and 20th, 2 of which were in the top 10. That's not so bad. Not to mention Frossard, Paulin, etc.

Good thing we got the input of the potential for winning $1M from such contenders as Ivan Tedesco, Nik Wey and Mike Alessi. If one of them wins it, they should make an ESPN 30 for 30 about it.

I can dig that. But I don't think we KNOW he buckles under pressure any more than we KNOW it's the bike's fault. Or do we? :)
