Star Racing Round 12 Race Report

Wednesday, September 14, 2011 | 9:15 AM
Pala, Ca. - The AMA Motocross series came to a conclusion over the weekend at Pala MX Park in Pala, California. . DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha comprised of #25 Ryan Sipes, #35 Kyle Cunningham, #387 Gareth Swanepoel, #533 Gannon Audette, rookie newcomer #210 Kyle Peters, and #1 Jessica Patterson went out trying  to make it one of the  most successful races of the season, seeing   our members ride on to finishes high up in the standings.

In moto one for the Star boys final race, Swanepoel started off in a 7th but within a lap had moved up to 6th. Running the speed of the leaders, Swanepoel went to work and through the halfway mark he sat in 5th. At this point he showed strength by finding his lines and breaking away; as he went on to take the 5th position at the checkers. Also in moto one, the rest of the Star squad all came out pretty well with Cunningham 6th, Sipes 17th, Audette 18th, and Peters was 27th.

In moto two, it was Cunningham and Peters who acquired good starts and continued on riding outstandingly through most of the race. Early on Cunningham paced himself in 3rd until the midway point when he dropped back to 5th; however Peters holding a top ten position crashed out and cut his great race short. Meanwhile, Swanepoel raced up to near his teammate, holding down 7th and he was applying the pressure to move forward. In return, a hard fought day for the South African would result in a solid 6th and just behind in 7th was Cunningham. Fortunately after terrible starts, Sipes and Audette kept it together and mounted a charge to a better spot. In doing so, Audette salvaged a 19th and Sipes a 20th place finish.

Results:

Moto 1  Moto 2 = Overall Finish

Gareth Swanepoel           5th 7th = 6th

Kyle Cunningham              6th 8th = 7th

Gannon Audette                18th 19th = 19th

Ryan Sipes                             17th 21st = 20th

Kyle Peters                            27th 34th = 31st

With the twelve race championship in the books, the series rankings shaped up with our riders:

Cunningham 5th, Swanepoel 6th Audette 15th Sipes 21st

Holding the torch high for the team, Jessica Patterson went out and destroyed her competition in a convincing fashion. Moto one took a little more effort, starting 2nd after making a mistake; Patterson forged forward on lap two and took the 1st spot which gave her the win. Starting out moto two in 1st, Patterson checked out and took the win leading every lap to take the overall win with a statement.
