A teen died in a motocross accident Thursday at Powder Mountain Resort after losing control of his bike during a practice run.
Dylan Perkins, 16, was registered for the Monster Energy Powder Mountain Motocross racing event and traveled with his family from their home in Surprise, Ariz.
Powder Mountain builds tracks each year for the event from its ski runs and draws in crowds from across the country.
Around 11 a.m. Perkins crashed his motorcycle after a jump, landing on his head and neck and suffering internal injuries said Sgt. Ryon Hadley, of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.
Paramedics were on the scene but could not detect vital signs in the teen. Though a helicopter was at the resort for serious injuries, responders used an ambulance to transport his body to a nearby hospital, where he was officially pronounced dead.
Family members who were at the event accompanied him to the hospital.
“These guys are airborne. They really are extreme riders,” Hadley said.
Perkins was wearing full protective gear, including a helmet, gloves and padding at the time of the accident.
Later Thursday, two more crashes were reported, resulting in broken ankles for two other participants.
The tournament, consisting of roughly 200 riders, will continue as scheduled through Sunday.

I watched the gp,s yesterday and yes, he surprised me. A new Pourcel if you compare with previous races this year... Looked like same style, self confidence and speed like in 2010, really nice to watch.. Kick marvin from the mxon-team and put in pourcel... 250, 450 doesn,t mather....THEN the francis have a REALLY good team...
@Kawi567 There is 2 Medaglia brothers, DD did beat the one you went to Unadilla....
I was also hoping to see results from the Powder Mountain race. Very sad about the Perkins kid, my prayers go out to his family. Looks like Pourcel is racing himself into shape.
Well to change the subject, That looked like one bad bud race there in Canada. I is always sad and bad to know one of our fellow racers crashed and then died Godspeed Tyler Perkins and and may his familily and friends know that he lived his life doing what he wanted to do. No we really dont know what to say? GOD Bless.
Anyone know what's up with Evgeny Bobryshev and if he's still with Honda racing the GPs? He was in the points chance for MX1 doing great and now he shows up to Unidilla on a zook and is missing from the MX1 series.
Weird he would completely change his program mid-season in the GPs when he was doing great.
Recalling my post above. It was a different Evgeny at Dilla. My mistake.
I was at the Powder Mountain race and was standing right next to Dylan's mother when the accident occurred. It was very sad. The Perkins family showed up on Saturday all wearing RIP 664 shirts and there was a special presentation for them. I got to speak with the mother and father. I was very impressed on how they came back to support the sport that took their son.
God Speed Dylan Perkins #664
I have spent alot of my life in B.C. Canada. I used to work in Vancouver while I lived in Seattle. Naturally is have taken a shining to the Canadian MX nationals. I attended round one in Kamloops and was quite impressed with Colton Facciotti. Just want to get some opinions on this. This question goes out to the posters who have seen him race. With the bike he raced in Canada how do you think he would perform in the U.S.?
@Mxpete450, Colton raced Steel City a few years back and was running 4th when he crashed and injured his ankle. Being Canadian, I'm pumped to see how he does at Southwick and Steel City. I asked him on twitter if he was gonna race in the AMA nationals in 2012, and he replied "not sure we will have to see how southwick and steel city goes." Hopefully he brings his "A" game and can get a ride down there for next year.
Jmo where do you live?
JMo do you know if Klatt or Beef or Keast are doing Southwick or Steel City?
