Les Smith to Substitute for Davi Millsaps

Thursday, August 11, 2011 | 9:20 AM
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. – Muscle Milk/Toyota/JGRMX rider Davi Millsaps continues to recover from knee surgery performed on July 26 to repair a meniscal tear.  Millsaps injured the knee during the second moto at Red Bud Track and Trail on July 2.  Millsaps condition and ability to resume riding will be evaluated on an ongoing basis.  During his recovery, Les Smith, who previously filled in for Justin Brayton while he was injured will substitute for Millsaps until he is cleared to return.

Smith, 20, is a decorated multi-time amateur national champion who lives and trains in South Carolina not far from the JGRMX headquarters and test facility.  Smith’s proximity and work ethic make him an easy choice when the team needs the services of a professional substitute rider.

Smith and Brayton will be on the gate for round nine of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship this Saturday, Aug. 13 at Unadilla Sports Valley in New Berlin, N.Y.  The first moto will be broadcast live on allisports.com and Fuel TV at 12:30 p.m. (EST).  The second moto will air live on NBC at 3:00 p.m. (EST).

Wow. Everyone always knows someone "better", don't they. Must be some reason Gibbs asked him to fill-in for the second time this year. Why can people never "pull for" their own guy without putting down a kid as awesome as Les? Kill it this weekend, Les - there are lots of us pulling for you!

There is a lot of rider like Les, wich are talented, good work ethic, and all, but lack just a little something to make it BIG, are becoming more and more usefull nowadays. Not long ago, teams were not replacing their injured riders, and came to the races with bikes no one would see on the track. These kids would often fly under the radar and disappear after a while. Now I'm glad it changed , teams are more often giving a chance to a good privateer kid, to fill a spot, deserving of a ride just like any other top pros.
Just think about those free agents in the NHL. They do an awesome job, are working class journeyman, but they keep moving from team to team, not because they are not appreciated, but because they fill a particular spot at a particular time. They play their role are a necessity, but will never get a 6 year contract.

Congrats Les Smith on this ride, make it count and impress the Team managers!
