James Stewart to Race Monster Energy Cup

AURORA, Ill.– Feld Motor Sports® announced today that James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., will race the inaugural Monster Energy Cup at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium on October 15.
Stewart, a former two-time Supercross class champion, racing for San Manuel Yamaha, is a heavy favorite to claim the $1 Million that will be paid to any rider that wins all three main events.
“I definitely look forward to a new look and feel,” said Stewart. “That’s a lot of money for one night, and the chances of being able to win it is, of course, very appealing, but there will be a lot of guys with this same thought so we need to just focus on the race.”
Third on the all-time Supercross class win list, Stewart owns 42 main event wins since moving to the premier class in 2004. Stewart is no stranger to winning at Sam Boyd Stadium, posting two premier class wins and a Lites class win.
“Although it’s in the same stadium it’s a new night and a new race format and I am glad to just have the opportunity to be a part of it,” Stewart added.
With supercross/motocross icons Jeremy McGrath and Ricky Carmichael as the race’s official track designers, Stewart looks forward to the unique design they develop.
“I believe they will put together a great track, but I also wonder how crazy it will be,” said Stewart. “These guys know what (tough) obstacles are – the ones that are very demanding. I’m sure they will want to put us through the ringer, but I would do the same if I were in their position, so bring it on.”
The unique hybrid track will consist of supercross/motocross terrain and will have a tremendous motocross-style influence, making it unlike any other stadium race in the world. This track will be the perfect blend of supercross and motocross combined and created into the ultimate battleground. The Monster Energy Cup posts a $250,000 purse with the winner walking away with a $100,000 check, and for the “first time ever” $1 Million will be paid to a rider that wins all three main events.

I thought he would be out looking for a spot on the Team USA MXON race by now. He still thinks he is the best, but I think his time has come and gone. He lost the real fire. Don't misunderstand me, he is one of the best in the sport, but kids that race from kindergarden age will find other things in life that they missed out on and loose some of the fire they had early.
Its not being right or wrong for doing that, its just the way it is. He has his fame on TV and has just about everything a person could ever want. Why go out and kill yourself if you have no drive.

All you people that are saying "Go Away, Leave the Sport" are so lame, you are the wanna be fans that have been following the sport for 5yrs and acting like lifers. Any real fan/ real racer know that Stewart is one of the most gifted riders ever and I for one love to watch him ride regardless of the "drama" that surrounds him, the day he does leave will be the loss of one of the sports icons.
Also, for all those who think that he isn't riding the nationals because he has no heart, is scared, a pu**y, etc. you're wrong. He rides for San Manuel Yamaha, the same team the kept Chad Reed from riding the nationals a few years ago. Has anyone seen his teammate, Kyle Regal (the motocross specialist), at the nationals this year? Uh, no, because he's on the same team as Stewart, and they don't have motocross contracts. James is already a legend (125 career perfect season, the scrub etc....) Racing has not been the same without James. I don't if anybody has made this comparison but James is the Jimi of MX/SX. He changed the sport and how people ride, he is far away the most talented positive and peaceful. Just like Jimi Hendrix he does'nt care about the haters he'll just keep smiling and winning bubba style. Dump Stewart & free up the money for other racers to move up! Yamaha could put those dollars into JGRMX and actually see some improvement in their bikes through JGR's extensive R&D program and actually make their customers happy!
They could keep his salary & put it into the contingencey program and have the starting gates around the country bathed in blue!

"a new look and feel". that could mean a lot or nothin at all. has anyone heard any good rumors about him switching brands? i personally think he could win on my daughters old TTR125 but a brand switch may be just the thing he needs to help him re-focus on racing. i still think he is a punk, but guess what, that ain't got nothing to do with ridin a dirt bike. still holding out for the rest of the outdoors, he could sure mix up the three man show (four if you count K-dub) we got going right now.

I have been racing motocross since 1968. Motocross was created outdoors and believe me I enjoy supercross but a real champion to me rides the outdoors. I am tired of James and all the riders that are supercross only. They need to go back to their roots and stop worrying about what car they can buy next. James is not a real champion like Carmichael, Villipoto, Reed, Dungey or the many others that I can put down. James give the sport up we dont need you if your only going to race supercross....PS he is fast but when was his last championship? Like I said he is loosing another step in speed every race he sits out...bye bye

This is terrible news. JS7 is this sport's greatest "could have been", "has been", and current equivalent of Lebron James (no heart.) JS7 has "two", count them, only "two" championships in 12 seasons of the 450 class. (FIM is a second blue ribbon and does not count as #3.) What JS7 'is' good at is taking himself out along with anyone else whom cannot avoid JS7's wreckless ways. JS7 is this sports biggest disappointment. JS7 only knows arrogance on the track, has no heart, and couldn't even capture the 2011 SX title because he quit and gave it up instead.
JS7 proved in 2011 he is 'so good' that he didn't even need to put up the effort to chase, catch, and take the title. This sux JS7 has registered for this interesting race, hopefully JS7 will pull out. If there is a thunderstorm and it rains, and someone says "I cannot go outside, it's raining", there are those that will call you rain "haters" for stating the facts. This is all the JS7 fans are. JS7 fans for some scientific reason of insanity cannot comprehend the disappointment JS7 is to this sport and the industry. Things did not have to be this way. This is and only ever was caused by JS7 himself. Maybe one day JS7 will grow up, we all saw this just didn't happen when JS7 rode motorcycles. Reading about James in ESPN magazine a few years back got me interested in MX. After decades of stick & ball team sports I decided to give it a try and got myself a bike - this in my mid-thirties. Well, now I love the sport, and despite being pitifully slow, I have a blast riding, and I love watching James ride. He does stuff that nobody else can do on a bike. (And there's no denying he's tough as nails.)
I think it's exceedingly judgmental, and smacks of petty jealousy when people deride him so vehemently. I honestly can't say I would have handled the (relative) fame, the accolades and the money any better than him. I'd probably be an absolute train wreck.
James is free to race or refrain as he wishes. He doesn't owe us anything. He has capitalized on his talent through hard work and sacrifice - decades of it. (Not to mention his family, as well.) He has earned the right to do as he sees fit and I, for one, won't criticize him for it. Not until I've walked a mile or two in his shoes, anyway - and that is never going to happen!

Glad to see he's decided to race this one but I have to say, his presence isn't what it used to be - it's as if he's lost street cred or somehthing (that's what happens when your a part-timer). I'm still a fan, but not nearly the fan i once was. I don't expect him to win all three but I expect him to raise the excitement factor simply by his new found unpredictablility. He should be racing outdoors that's all there is to it. I bet CR22 is loving the migration of JS7 fans to CR22 fans... he's earned it in every way. I hope Chad takes the $$!!

I'm stoked that the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians are supporting the sport, but it shocks me that they are continuing to sponsor that felon. James Stewart makes them look like corrupt gangster savages by association. Are they sure they want an animal like Stewart representing them? I would think that they are trying to put forth a positive image instead of an image of felonious renegade cop-imitators on the loose.

Also, i haven't seen any comments about tim ferry being hired by js7 to help set up his bike...maybe, just maybe the yamaha is a turd outdoors and james can't come out and say it and thats why he isn't racing it outdoors or the bike does not fit his style...just like the kawi didn't fit cr22 last year when he did race. Some guys can ride and win on anything. but watching the races and youtube practice videos james does not look the same as when he was on a green bike or in 2009 before yamaha redesigned their bike.
Hey BD200 actually I've been to 2 nationals this year! I've worked at a bike shop for 12 years and have been riding for 20, so think twice before you question why I'm a James Stewart fan...All you got is he's not racing right now. @BILLC, alot of guys LOVE this sport, and respect it. Look at K-Dub, he doesnt like the outdoors anymore, he has a wife and kids he loves spending time with before they grow up. But he said fan raction motivated him to continue racing outdoors. He cares. Stewie quite obviously doesnt. But somebody waves a million dollars out there for supercross (not National track of course) and there he is. If he didnt want to race, he could just say so. NOT LIE and say "Where not ready yet" Its B.S. Reed did it, caught some grief but at least he didnt lie and make excuses. He said he hated the outdoors at the time, wanted to go home and hang out and see friends. Fine. Stewie lies and says "MY team wont let me" or another lie and says " We arent ready yet" . BULLCRAP. RV, Dungey Reed Short MIllsaps, all these guys ran the whole supercross season and they are ready. That is what has pis#ed off the majority of the fans. And that is why I say its just money only that motivated him. That and its supercross.. He has a chance to win that.

pourcel and js7 both have problems with the yamaha..........pourcel lasted two races and went back to a green bike and stewart has hired tim ferry to help set up his bike for outdoors......if stewart is only racing for the money like some are saying why would he spend extra money to setup a race bike...i'm not saying the yamaha's suck....but if you could explain without being childish and just say they both are wimps and losers..whats a good explanation for saying a guy has no heart but can't control his emotions after he wins a race after a 7 race dry spell...if he is a wimp and wussy so i am i because i cried at the age of 34 when my dad died..i cried when both my kids were born...because of heart....if you don't like the guy just say don't come up with lame excuses and lies to justify yourself...

Wasn't that a San Manuel rig that showed up last year with his attempt to earn a spot on the MXDN team? hmmm, I could be mistaken, but seems to me they wanted to race outdoors, but at least one of their riders doesnt. No disrespect to Regal, but I'd bet a large sum he could get a deal done to race the nationals, Regal doesnt have that kind of pull.
