just call me joeholeshot on a hodaka. Brings ol jammin jimmy to the top of the brain housing group.....and a paddle tire soon., Is that the stock pipe? Most were mashed flat pretty quickly?
ty btw. nice ol gal.
wow. Nice scooter. My 1978 Honda CR250 was $1200. new. It was worth every penny
I musta got screwed on my 78 Rm 250....pd, $1400.00
The first KX250 came out a couple of years before that bike, and I rode the prototype that was built before the first KX250, which was called the Kawasaki F-11M Prototype. It's the fastest motocross bike I've ever ridden. It's the only motorcycle I've ever ridden that did 4th gear starts with one pop of the clutch and did not bog, all the way until the bike caught up with the Earth-churning rear tire.
I used to show people at the track how this bike would do 4th gear starts. I'd start the bike, put it in 1st and ask, "What gear am I in?" They'd say, "First!" I'd shift up and ask again. "Second!" All the way to "Fourth!" Then I'd wick it and give it one pop of the clutch. They couldn't believe what they saw. I couldn't believe the power that was in my right hand! Solid holeshots for a year! My CR500s can't do 4th gear starts like that.
my hodaka can
Im pretty sure marksCZ was probably the fastest motorcrosser* ever built.
Love those early 70's kawis.
I like the early 80's KXs with the number plate on the rear fender
Nice bike and certainly in really good shape. But I'm raising the BS flag on jairtime up there. Are you kidding me!!! On it's best day, that thing was an overweight, underpowered tank slapper waiting to happen on the first bump it hit! Sorry! I'd also bet "The Jammer" never lined up on one of those! While probably not as bad as a TM400, I never saw a soul win a race on a 76 KX250. Never had anyone stick a wheel in on me and my Pursang on one of those anywhere I went in 76. With some work, the 78 KX250 was a good performer, and really sweet looking bike!
If I remember right, those F-11s were rotary valve and thus the engine was 3 feet wide. And werent they rotary-shift, like if you you kept shifting up you ended up in neutral and then 1st, and so on? Just saying. My GasGas 280 trials bike will do 6th gear starts. Maybe that's different. JoeMX, my 1st racebike was a 72 SuperRat. In 1972. Shift was 1 up, 4 down. Random and yet somehow pertinent thoughts in a meandering stream of wandering discourse.
The F-11 MX was piston port motor. Found one I thought was the enduro and swapped to a buddy for next to nothing. He still laughs at me today.
Course, most people laugh at me as well.........
oh I'm fully aware the jammer didnt ride a stocker. And maybe your the kid that had the hodacracker I speak of so much! (extreamly funny story) :O
I had a wombat stripped down for mx before I got a YZ and started racing.
Very nice bike. It is great to see some old KX's again.
Wow..... I just keep waiting for jairtime to say something smart....... Mabey next time.hehe
Its a post of a '76 model and everyone talks about '78. How ironic.. I was 14 in '78, with a big interest in moto but had no bike and no support from my parents. Just the other day I realized I've spent a lifetime trying to re-create 1978. Im all ready now, new bike, new(but now old) skills though1978 is long gone... Profile of a vet racer I guess.
Hey guys, thats my '76 up there, NOT A '78 ..... It is light and has scarey top end power but zero suspension. Big Berm MX was a mx mecca in late 70's and I was 17 when I won my first C class race there in 1978 !!! There were at least 35 250 C class guys that day and that thing holeshot them both motos. This forum shouldn't critique vintage bikes, Just have fun looking at them !!!
