I'm excited to play this game, but the trailers have been terrible.... why can't they show a rider hitting the whoops and then a triple..... instead they show a guy on a 4 wheeler doing a backflip... so stupid
The PR on this game has been terrible. The game mags have hardly reported on it and supposedly it's releasing this month! I hope its as great "they" say it is.
^^^@Acejas The game came out today
Im a big fan of the old school mx games...
Dug some more...Looks great, but no supercross. hmm interesting decision.
Game seems cool so far. The controls in general are OK. I can tell you that passing is much better than the last version; when you take an inside line on someone and make a little contact, it doesn't throw both of you off the track anymore. Graphics are awesome - gotta get back to playing... ;)
@ Acejas -
I believe that since the game has a $40 price tag, things like Supercross tracks will be available as a Paid Download - either Microsoft Points for Xbox or a Paid DLC for PS3 (whenever the PSN goes back up).
My guess is if you buy more tracks, gear and bikes, you'll reach the $60 most games are today.
Maybe it's just me... but I think the game is a step backwards. Rent one, or check out a friends game prior to purchasing. You might not want to buy it after playing it. Just my opinion...
Getting it today, supercross will be a download for sure, will the stewarts track have to cost any or is it free.
save your money and go ride for real, 40 dollars is enough to pay a practice fee anywhere...on the real though this game is horrid, they took eight steps in the wrong direction, the rider is a goon, and she freaks out with hand gestures everytime he makes a pass on someone...seriously save your time and money.
i'm utterly depressed with this game. thankfully gamestop offers full reimbursement for any returns made within a week of the purchace... this game is a piece of shit hah. controls are strange and seem like they were made hastily. i will stick to my old school motocross games for PS2.
Better graphics do not mean a better game. They need to put thier development efforts elswhere. Go back to the year 2000 and start all over. And get it right this time!
bill t- i bought the last "new game" at toys-r-us, then took it gamestop the very next day and they gave me six dollars (I paid 45 at toys-r-us but you cant return it just because you dont like it) I guess that is one real good reason to always buy your game at gamestop.
So do you have to download the real game online? cause the game that you buy at the store is a PS1 game
Whoever made this game is a reeetard, really made some bad moves, I want my money back you g a y fuu cks
All they needed to do was make 30 new tracks for reflex, it is the parfect game....alive however, is a total f ing mess like your moms ass i hate this game, im going to have to play reflex until the next game comes out in ten years, im pissed i waited this long to get utterly dissappointed
I agree, not real impressed. The stewart compound is fun because of the supercross track. oh well. ill give it time......

they just made the whips cooler other than that the game is shittty
The only good thing about this game is the whole pack can go into the first turn at once and nobody will wreck, the rest is terrible. @ryan v, i totally agree with you. All they had to do with reflex was make some new tracks and fix the ramming problem and it would have been good.
My son has played this game alot and really likes it. I cant see what all the anger is from?? My son and his friends say its great. And I think you have to download supercross. But whocares, outdoors rule.
Ok so i have plaid every Dirt bike game out there. Im big on the Motocross games but this one is not my top pick. Reflex was not a bad game. Yes you getting taken out and a few thing they could have fixed but other than that it was a great game. Now Alive??? Hmmmm ummm haha yaa!! The tracks are Great, More real tracks would make a better game yes! But not if you cant control the damn bike. The bike control is so sloppy. Coming from reflex i would put it like how barcia would say, ''SILKY SMOOTH", But alive i would have to say its like trying to control a goon riders for ever lap. Doesn't that sound stupid!!?? SO what im saying is the only good things i like are the tracks and the bike sounds, Ya they are getting a lot closer on the bike sounds ill give them that. So i would have to give this game a 5 out of ten. Thinking about play reflex again thats how bad.

the games the worst ive bought so far..stewarts compound is sooo hard,i havent tried live yet,but im a level 12 and im ticked that they take everything away as soon as you move up a level..its crap, the bikes beyond fake, and the bike rides itself! its too hard to control..idk,untamed was the best,i found the pitbike on stewarts compund and figured out its almost as fast, and easier to ride than my big bike,lol..
you guys just need to give it some time and figure it out, its really not a bad game, i love it. the longer you play the more levels you move up, and the higher in levels you are the easier it gets to turn and control your bike.
The first post is from my son, he has played the game alot. He says first you start and ride as an amatuer, and arent as skilled. But the better your race results, it opens up more tracks and all. And that you have to turn like a real bike, using clutch and braking, you cant just hold the throttle through the turns. Act like your on a real bike guys. When you started playing the last mx vs atv it was hard to control too, until you learn the game. It isnt any fun to beat the heck out of a game in the first 5 minutes you play it. Give it a chance, my son really likes it.
Most everyone on here talks about how the game sucks so much but never really says what sucks about it except that it's not like Reflex. I never had Reflex. Why are there so many haters out there for this game?
@447 I will elaborate for you why IMO this game is a step backwards from reflex. First off, I am currently at lvl 35, so its not like I’m writing this based off 10 minutes of play time and then going on a rant. To start, you can’t blitz whoops in this game because if you pull back on the right stick, the rider pulls up into a wheelie and you loop out. In reflex, you were able to put weight on the rear wheel and not wheelie. Same goes for if your going through a bumpy straight section, you can’t put weight on the rear wheel because you will loop out. Also, I have had the bike wheelie on straight sections on its own without pulling back on the right stick. It also wheelies on its own if you over shoot a jump or something and land hard. This is annoying because if you just go through these sections in a neutral position, you lose all your momentum and end up having to jump through whoop sections.
As far as jumping goes, I have the 450, with all the extra parts and I still cant clear most of the jumps in the stewart compound, and I have noticed when you land jumps, for some reason you lose momentum even when you clear them clean, which makes rhythm sections very difficult.
With the preloading in this game, I can’t seem to get consistent results using it. I will do the same thing every time and some times I get a huge preload and sometimes I’ll get nothing. In reflex you could flick the right stick down on the face of a jump and get the same amount of preload every time, which really helps getting rhythm sections and timing down.
As far a supercross is concerned, I’m a little disappointed this game didn’t come with any raceable SX tracks. They say on the mx vs atv forum to go do free ride on the stewart compound and you can ride on his practice SX track, which is a preview of what the SX dlc will be like. Well I did that on the 450 and that track is f’ing impossible to do the whole track clean for 1 lap. I think the biggest problem is because of the losing momentum thing when you land makes the rest of the section impossible to do clean.
And then there are just little annoying things like the rider taunting people when you pass someone. That is just childish and takes away from game. Also the whole blur thing the screen does when your going fast is lame. The rider looks like he is 7 feet tall riding a 85cc bike. The rider also most of the time stands up around turns and doesn’t sit and put out a leg, not all the time though. It is also annoying that there are no bikes available in the dlc yet as of day 2. One would think that that stuff would ready to go by the release date so people can actually use name brand bikes.
However, there are some upsides to this game. I think the whole progression through the game is pretty cool. In reflex, your level was meaningless anything because leveling didn’t unlock any new stuff, so I guess it was just for bragging rights maybe? I also like how they fixed the whole multiplayer deal. It doesn’t take forever for races start and it just functions a lot smoother. Also, it is awesome that all 12 people can go mobbing into the first turn and nobody will wreck.
As of right now, I would rate this game in the 4-5 out of 10 range. Hopefully by the time the SX dlc is released it will be better.
@RandomPerson, that game sounds absolutely awful. The 'taunting rider' deal is the stupidest thing they have EVER come up with, and it was on some earlier games also. Very Lame imo. Also, these games having the pre-load as part of the joystick, is stupid and uneccessary. I played 'mx-unleashed' (2004) for a few years, and I liked it a lot, but then I accidentally discoverd an earlier game that was even better, "MX 2002 featuring Ricky Carmichael" (2001). It has the pre-load function on a separate button (R2), which makes it much more realistic, since the joystick has enough to do already. Then there is a powerslide button on the R1, with the clutch on the L1 (like all the other games). If you are overcooking a turn, you can squirt the rear end around just like grabbing a big handful in real life. Very FUN. Of all the games I have tried, this one replicates a real bike- and real racing the best, but it is not for the impatient, since it uses six controls (joystick/brake/gas/clutch/pre-load/powerslide). My only complaints after 2000 hours of enjoyment are (1) it only has 11 outdoor and 4 supercross tracks to choose from (2) The stunts/tricks are too easy to accidentally do, thus making you crash sometimes (like busting an 'indian air' when you are only 3 feet off the ground !) It does whips, backflips, 360 helicopters, wheelies and scrubs. And, you can turn off that stupid music, and only hear the bikes if you want. Also, a very realistic holeshot. There is also free-style if you're into that (I am not). It is not as broad as the newer games, but what is there, works really good. Sorry if I sound like a salesman, I'm just trying to help out other gamers, with my experience on these few games. As the newer games have come out, I find myself more dissappointed with each passing year. I have been a video game nut, since space invaders (1978) .
"MX 2002 featuring Ricky Carmichael" .
This one in the link is for X-BOX, but it is available on PS2 also. The ad says "superfly" but the actual box does not. Look at the cover.

Stay away from this one - it is really terrible (it came out the following year- in between "MX 2002 featuring Ricky Carmichael"(2001), and 'mx-unleashed' (2004). It sucks bad.

Mx unleashed has a bunch of cool tracks, and a 500cc which is a blast. But, I cant get used to the pre-load/joystick thing again, after playing the older one for so long now.
I hope this information will help someone find as much fun as I have found.
And do "stoppies" also.. the tracks are real tracks... glen helen, kenworthy, spring creek, unadilla, southwick, lorettas, hangtown, anahiem, the US open, etc.
Glen helen has 2 MONSTER size hills. One track has the biggest jump you will ever see. You can change to different riders- Carmichael -Stewart- etc, or create one of yourself. There is even a David Pingree rider on it. You probably play it, right Ping?
I don't know what those screen-shots are from- but it doesn't look anything like that. Its way better.
One more thing- the manufacturer list price was $12.99 new ! Hah. Take these new POS 50$ games and shove them ! LOL.
@wfo--those old games suck, you can just mash the throttle button and stay there. It requires no skill at all. And the "taunting riders" mode for the MX/ATV game can be turned off when you start the game. That is for teenagers I'm sure, they can do that to thier buddies they are racing, just to be funny. Quit being so serious. I would say that they dont use real tracks because of legal issues, blame greed and lawyers for that, some for brand name bikes.
I demand a remake of this entire game....here's how it goes down...combine Reflex gameplay with the progression of alive or ricky carmicheal 2001, and the tracks of atv offroad fury. Perfect. I just have never been so utterly disappointed in a game that has produced in the passed. My rider looks like a monkey on a football, he's a damn goon
@BD200- which games suck? ? And you can just 'mash the throttle' and requires no skill? You are not talking about the game that I'm talking about, in fact this one requires far more skill, which is why it was never succesful in the first place. Few people have the patience to invest in it, which is why the forward trend has been to dumb them down dramatically, so that anyone can play, which appeals to a much wider market, hence more revenue. Quit being so serious? I'm not sure that I catch your drift on that one...And the game I am talking about DOES use real tracks, just as I have listed above.
So far on here- two people like it- and 12 don't. Thats all I need to know.
mx vs atv alive is a total joke, Its so easy and stupid. The rider does this stupid taunt and who ever created it should be fired. The clutch and the pre-lode meter is lame. I'm already lvl 28 and im only its stupid how you need to go from lvl 10 and 25 to get more tracks and bikes. I havn't tried #7's compound yet because of psn but still not looking forward to it.
Dont they have cheat codes for these games anymore??
I really don't understand why it is so hard to make a good mx game?! Seriously all we want is a badass mx racing game like REAL racing. Good graphics and make it REAL! Reflex was great, the only thing I disliked was how you wrecked so easily. Why the hell would you make your rider fist pump every time you pass someone? Why would you make your rider cheer? Why wouldn't you have supercross and the things that people would actually buy the game for? Look at Need For Speed and games like that, it sticks to amazing racing and amazing graphics. I understand it is probably about money and they want you to dl some stuff but come on, people don't even want the game anymore!!
IMO the guys who got the "Fist Pump" idea...should be crucified...THAT is very disrespectful to us "Real MX racers"...why is not hard clean racing good enough ?....this is made for 10-year olds max
I see movie, game and other trailers everyday for a living. These "Alive" trailers are pound-for-pound the lousiest have seen recently, and among the very worst I have seen historically.
