The Moment: Dallas

Sunday, April 3, 2011 | 9:55 PM

Everytime it happens, you think it could be the last time. We've been watching run ins between Chad Reed and James Stewart (and James Stewart and Chad Reed) for nearly a decade now, and although it seems like it will never end, someday, it is going to have to.

But the moto Gods just don't seem to be satisfied quite yet.

Trey Canard may have won the Monster Energy Supercross on Saturday night in Dallas, and Ryan Villopoto may have finished second and retaken the points lead. But the 51,509 fans on hand in Cowboys Stadium surely left talking about just one thing first, and that was the impact that impacted the race and impacted the points standings. It didn't do much for the vaunted Reed/Stewart rivalry, though. That's already set--and locked--on max.

The Moment from Dallas? Pretty obvious. The Stewart/Reed collision.

undefined

Whenever these two are close, you pretty much know what's going to end up happening next.
Simon Cudby photo

What will they come up with next weekend?

Doesnt bother me in the least that the 22 got collected.... had it coming for that absolute dickweed move he put on the 7 in the ATL that cost both of them.... That was malicious, this was not... this one was simply idiotic... is there a difference ? Yes, to me there is... Not that it matters.... neither will win the title now... take it to the bank...

But because it was Reed you have to post your pee brain comments. Stewart will not win the title I will take that to the bank. I don't think CR saved Stewey from shooting off the berm. JS7 got out of shape when CR slowed in the whoops. Everyone knows if you lift in the whoops it gets bad fast.

So if CR wasn't there JS wouldn't have had to lift.

More importantly, Lets bring back the hay bails. The tough blocks ruin more racers nights. Nothing makes a racer look more like a goon than a tough block

8-up............???????? Your talking about lift I just watched it again, Reed was not in the way at all. Stewart lost control of his throttle and Reed is what stoped him, if he wasn't there he would have went face first into the stadium wall. Everyone knows how bad he is in the whoops.

For those of us with years of sadle time racing, we have all seen these type of moves at weekend races from novice class to local pro's. Often made by racers chaseing a plastic trophy worth less than their entry fee. Riders racing on the edge, often over there heads.

Dont think that just cause Reed and JS are the best of the best they cant ride over there heads and slip off the razors edge, that is motocross racing. Seems like some of you forget thats what this sport is built on. In the day, it was called riding WFO.

With 5 racers capable of winning anygiven night, racing WFO is what happens. Sure the smartest riders try to calm down and win the championship, but ego is turning the throttle now, lets just enjoy the show.

May be Malcolm will take his place in the next yr or 2. Js7 needs to put his focus full on racing and winning. He has been lucky enough to survive those crashes. Honestly what other rider you know that crashes as much as JS and is still on 2? Instead of going out cruising the highways playing cops and speeders ( the fact that he has red and blue lights on his car means this must be a regular activity) he should be on one of his practice tracks learning how to ride a motorcycle without falling down.

A 25 year old man acting like a teenage punk... Big James must be proud.

You guys simply don't know what this sport is about, consequently your comments are made from a position of ignorance. James has always ridden this way, and he isn't likely to change now. If Reed is nearby and aggressive, they're going to tangle. Stuff happens when your on the gas in the whoops, and Reed being there was his bad luck - nothing more. James is going to win or crash trying. Good, bad or otherwise, that's the way it is. Deal with it already. Most of you couldn't get out of the driveway wheels-down on a moped. lol

I agree that our sport is very dangerous, as I have suffered several broken bones, back surgery, sprains bruise...you name it, but what is being missed here is that Stewart should have stickers on the back of his helmet like the NFL players for all of the people he has taken out! He rides over his head when he does not get a good start and has landed on, t-boned more people than anyone else currently racing today. The difference in the old guys way of racing is that they did it on purpose, Stewart loses control and takes people out. Big difference!

Stewie is always riding way above his skill level, that is why he is crashing so much. And BILLC. to answer your question as to why people are talking about Stewie and not K-Dub. For one, Stewie has taken down the points leader 2 weeks in a row, and 2, it happens with Stewie several times a year, every year. He has taken down a number of riders this year already, do you see a pattern?? With Stewie I do, with K-Dub I dont. And you talk alot about peoples hate for Stewie, it is obvious after the last few seasons your dislike for Dungey.. And does anyone think it is strange hoiw a city the size of Indianapolis( with only 1.9 million in the metro area) can drw more fans than a city the size of the Dallas area?? Which is at least 3 times that many people. And a stadium that can hold 100,000 people. That should say it, MXSports, quit taking all the races to the southwest and west. Moce them back east. The east coast rounds having to race in Houston and Dallas bring on more expense from travel than the west coast riders anyway. Its wrong and unfair. The west coasnt teams might cross 3 states all year, a East coast team drives across that many states for one race..

Profile Picture
beancanyon wrote: 11:21am April 4, 2011

You had the top 5 point leaders up front after one lap. It would of been nice to watch those 5 duke it out. That's what I was bummed about. Just like Reed said in his interview. He bobbled some in the whoops, James saw the opening, went for it and caught the last lip of that whoop sending him into Reed. It was a racing incident plain and simple. Not a take out move. Just sucked for the fans to watch a boring race after that.

What I said is Stewie was riding above his skill level through those whoops, and alot of the track. He almost went down several times. A large number of times, in the main. And he didnt let up, its why he crashes so much, it doesnt make him fast, it makes him reckless. Its why fans raise alot of hell when he takes down another rider being that way. BillC, how RV can be your guy and you don't think Stewie took him out is beyond me. I just watched the race again today and watched the takeout another ten times. RV's front wheel gets BLOWN out from under him by about two feet to his left. Lifted off the ground and blown out sideways. There really is no such thing as a takeout if that isn't one. I think the reason Stewart screwed up in Dallas was that he was going for a similar move on Reed. His eyes got big and he juiced it up but then swapped. He almost bit it 3 or 4 other times as well. As for other guys, the whoops were tough. What I saw was lots of guys screw up so they backed it down. Stewge just keeps it pinned regardless of how close he comes to biting it. More and more he reminds me of the Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz.

Snooze, you think Chicken vs. Bradshaw was cool? That was the most embarassing and ridiculous display of idiocy ever. And I like Bradshaw. THAT move is what cost him the title that year. If he didn't do that he wouldn't have had to worry about choking in the end. If he wins that title, who knows how different his career may have gone. But you think it was cool....... I repeat, we are doomed.

RV needs to ask Reedy how to man up and deal with Stewie. Reedy has provided evidence that he is not afraid of Stewie. SX is not for little boys!

Very easy bkr, If RV did not cut down he does not get hit, SEE. If it was a take out move he gets hit no matter what he does so it was not a take out.

How can everyone say that Stewart's crash in the whoops was because he was riding out of control? Didn't Reed crash in the same whoop section on the last lap? Maybe Reed shouldn't ride over his head as well. I'm not huge fan of either rider, but this crash was neither one's fault. They both got messed up in a remarkably difficult whoop section, Reed just happened to be unlucky enough to be there when Stewart screwed up. You guys make it seem like Reed was intending to be there to "save" the fans.

And to blame Stewart for riding over his head; look at his season this year: he has crashed in how many events yet is STILL capable of finishing in the top 3? He has ground to make up and not a lot of time to do it. I would be wide open from the gate drop if I could be. Honestly, if you aren't pushing yourself to go faster than the previous lap then the race would be decided by fastest lap times.

on the Stewart RV matter that never seems to go away, it was unintentional, clearly. Here is the link, try to follow along, kiddies, starting at 3:44. Stewart was setting himself up to go way inside on the corner (see how he goes from the middle of the whoops to the far side?) At 3:57 Stewart is 4 feet away from RV, which rules out a block pass, cause you can't block pass from 4 feet away. After that, however, is where the accident happens. RV squares up the corner to get past the lappers, but Stewart is already on the inside of the corner when RV squares it up and they have nowhere to go. Unless Stewart knew ahead of time that RV was going to square that corner (which is impossible, because then also would have known not to pull over those 2 off-duty cops) it was an accident and no one is to blame.

B-KR, I was being totally sarcastic and making reference to how it seems the majority like and accept the shinanagans that’s going on between JS7 and C”Squid”R22, hence WWE reference and Bradshaw’s era. Don’t get me wrong both guys are great and can put it down, but I can do without the take-outs and cheap shots. This mentality of “if I’m not going to win, you’re not either”, will get someone hurt and shorten careers. Definitely not good for the sport.

@SmartypantS, Tommy is super hung. I know why everyone thinks that now... He`s very well-endowed compared to "average", and huge by any standards. People never stop talking about the size of male celebrities. Stupid, if you ask me...
