stewart vs. villopoto. lites class. outdoors. historical facts.
stewart's first season: +137 (jesseman/reg tit)
stewart's second season: -30 (langston/2x reg tit - 125 out - 450 out - 125 world)
stewart's third season: +179 (hepler/no titles)
137 - 30 + 179 = 296 points ahead of second place riders
opponents had (3) reg tit - (1) 125 out -(1) 125 world - (1) 450 out
villopoto's first season: +35 (alessi/no titles)
villopoto's second season: +19 (townley/reg tit-mx2 world)
villopoto's third season: +72 (dungey/reg tit-lites out-450 sx-450 out)
35 + 19 + 72 = 126 points ahead of second place riders
opponents had (2) reg tit - (1) mx2 world - (1) 450 out - (1) 450sx
villopoto won 19 races out of a possible 36, which is 52%
stewart won 29 races out of a possible 35, which is 83% .
As you can see, stewart was far more dominant outdoors than villopoto, on the lites bikes, despite having one less title.
Villopoto has only one 450 outdoor national to his resume.
stewart has a 450 perfect season, not to mention a full 450 season, battling against ricky carmichael. How many times has villopoto raced against a 'ricky carmichael' ?
I think it is going to be good, but not the way some people are forseeing it.
get your butt out there and race stewart. just do it.
very nice ama site. it has all records, from 1999 - 2011.
://old.motorsport.com/news/series.asp?S=AMA&Y=2003
Unfortunately, the information for ricky carmichael, does not appear to be available.
Why was TC mad at RD?? They did not show it and When Erin asked RD he was very short and pissy about it. The pressure is building for RD. 38 points out and no wins yet!! I was hoping he would get 2nd to make RV's points lead bigger but he could not get by Reed even though RV and JS blow past him like nothing!!
"How many times has villopoto raced against a 'ricky carmichael' ?"
Budds Creek MXdN... 'nuff said.
Also, he IS racing against a "Ricky Carmichael" so to speak right now. RC was a dominant rider when stewart tried to dethrown him, RV is doing the same now to the likes of JS, CR, and even Dungey who won both titles in his rookie year. Apples and oranges, your numbers make you look a little smarter tho, so congrats on that.
Stewart was a more dominant lites bike rider...
BUT I agree with your statement - Budds Creek MXdN - But you missed an even more important factor to that.... RC - RMZ *450* / RV - KXF *250*
trick, the breakdown you laid out is very impressive and points out the fact that you really need to buy a bike and find a girlfriend.
I cant stand when people bring up old facts. It really doesn't matter what happened on lites or years before. Whats happening now is RV2 just won three races in a row and is in the lead for points. Maybe JS7 is the better rider but that hasn't showed this season.
@. "@T". I agree 100%, watching "Bubba" on a KX125 doing the uphill triple behind the starting gate in the rain at High Point is something I wont forget. He was in a league of his own back then.
Don't worry, the people in Stewarts "compound" still call him the Fastest Man on the Planet. Clearly he isn't this year (or last year) but he still thinks he is.... lol.
Actually, I do not think Tricks number even make him "Appear" smarter :-)
All that info is meaningless? Racing is not about individual races or individual dominant performances. It is about stringing a bunch of races (SX) and Motos (MX) together to get a title...PERIOD.
All your stats show is that there seems to be something going on with Stewart. At the time of his dominant capabilities he was unable to capitalize on it in terms of titles. THAT is all that you have indicated.
That, and RV was able to capitalize on his, at the time, capabilities.
So, while a lovely trip through the past, let's now get to the present.
No one rider appears to be individually race dominant (please see my posts on laps and times), but one rider is capitalizing on his capabilities.
If you have to ride beyond your capabilities to beat the competition and you are on the ground because of it, well then is that NOT your actual capability?
Oh in case anyone missed the point, you ride your best pace that allows you to be consistent. It is about consistency and not any one lap.
Risks are taken only when they need to be taken and with a 26 point lead, there is not need to take any risks.
For those are new to the sport, have a desire to learn and to gain insight into SX/MX racing, please take hands of keys and pay attention to some of the folks who are providing good info.
For the idiots, by definition there is nothing that can be done for you.
The fastest rider doesn't always win. I would rather be lucky than fast any day.
TomKTM the term fastest does not mean he is going to be the champ, it means he is fast. If you had to beat your life on who could turn the fastest lap on any givin track who's hands would you put your life in?? I would Pick JS every time.
@bill c, go to pulpmx.com. Matthes did a "pulpcast" with canard after the race, and he talks about it.
Thanks Tyler
Stewart my have been more dominate but a title pays more money than being dominate and goes in the record as a title. So it does not matter about being dominate it matters about the title. (period) Thats what RV is doing right now and it is going to be another title for him if he stays healthy.
How great must it feel to be Sipes right now?! He beat the two most dominate teams, Monster PC Kawi and Gieco Honda, in Lites racing when he won at Indy; not to mention the two great riders that saw the checkers after him! When was the last time a Yamaha won a lites main? Has it really been that long?
"Also, he IS racing against a "Ricky Carmichael" so to speak right now. you are comparing js, cr and dungey to ricky carmichael ? Carmichael has more TITLES, than all three combined.
"How many times has villopoto raced against a 'ricky carmichael' ?"
Budds Creek MXdN... 'nuff said."
he only raced against him once! Stewart raced him FOURTY FIVE TIMES !
"I cant stand when people bring up old facts. It really doesn't matter what happened on lites or years before. Whats happening now is RV2 just won three races in a row and is in the lead for points. Maybe JS7 is the better rider but that hasn't showed this season. "
Maybe some of the people on here should familiarize themselves with old facts, ITS CALLED HISTORY. sorry to BORE you with it !

stewart only failed to win ONE title, that was the second one, where he had broken his collarbone in las vegas, after already clinching the regional a few weeks before. AND, he still won MORE races in THAT 'losing' season, than villopoto did in his second 'winning' season.
"Actually, I do not think Tricks number even make him "Appear" smarter :-)"
i do not think that the answers, that any of you have responded with, make you appear smarter either. :-)
This is not a rebuttal to 'whether or not villopoto will win this championship.
it is a rebuttal to the people who are saying that "he will destroy stewart in the outdoors". Some people think that villopoto is the greatest outdoor rider, who ever walked the face of the earth. That is ALL that i was debating about.
On a different note: If stewart gets beaten by villopoto for this sx title, it will be the first time anyone has ever done it, besides ricky carmichael. If stewart 'injures himself' out of the championship again, it will be the first time he has ever failed to win a title in between major injuries.
Rainman, i cant afford to buy a bike. and i already have a girlfriend. And for the record. I do not spend hours putting these posts together. Most of the time, it only takes me 15 minutes. Sometimes, finding a particular shred of info, can be more time consuming, and sometimes i just give up altogether (like stats on r/c 125 career). it keeps my computer skills sharp for when i get a real job.
Trick,
sit down man, breath deep. You ok? Had us scared there for a few minutes.
Why are you even engaging in arguments about the future? based on bunch of historical information that is not relevant anylonger.
These guys are different guys than last year, than the year before, and the year before that as well.
All you can really do is look at how things are going today, in SX, and maybe get a sense of how SX will play out.
No one can foresee what the outdoors will bring, but I for one am excited to see it. THAT is real racing in my book.
Both RV and JS have shone amazing abilities in the outdoors and hope it is a close battle. Both have superior corner speed to most of the competitors but hopefully a couple others will elevate their game.
So, stay calm, breath deep, stay focused on SX and we will have this discussion once the outdoors starts.
-Open
im not arguing with you open class. but some people say some dumb stuff on here, thats all. peace.
Everyone is quick to say all this stuff about Stewart and even Dungey. Well lets look at this how many titles did Stewart win when Ricky Carmichael was an active full-time racer? Oh yeah none. So Dungey this year appears to be sucking but he is dealing with the same thing Stewart did a rider that is way faster than you. I give Dungey credit he is there every week and I really think he will do better outdoors
rainmanx you could not have said it any better
same answer to you olmstead
It just goes to show the one who is going to win the title is the one who is going ot make the least mistakes. I still personally think the title is JS7's to lose, he is the fastes at just about every race, but he keeps making too many mistakes. But also lets remember, RV had a few get-offs himself last year, and one that cost him BIG. Although he does look like he is riding smarter this year. I feel for Dungey, especially the chain thing that put him so far back in points, that has to be hard to swallow. Like I said earlier before the season started about Reed, I believe Dungey will win a race before the end of the year. Its starting to get to the home stretch now, who will the pressure get to first. All that I know is that this is the first year that I don't care who wins, as long as everyone stays healthy, and we have good racing. It is finally good to have a season where you don't know who is most likely going to will on any given weekend.
BTW, I have to give props to Stewey Jr. He has been very impressive and good to see him starting to get out of his brothers shadow. It would be awesome to see him get a podiumsoon, he definately has the speed.
trick... You seem to have a thing for statistics.. Why don't you take a look at making an app for iphone or smartphones? Motogp has a excellent app which enables fans to follow the races and dwell on statistics... As for the SX and MX... There is no such thing.. The AMA website can provide some data till 03, but that's all. Just an idea... You do it well, u can earn some serious $$.
Motohead279... JS7 is fast.. But he is now clearly like a Nigel Mansell... Fast and reckless.. And over here in Euriope we would make fun of him by saying.. MAnsell has his brains between his toes.. Ha,ha!
As for RV2... He has changed big times... And i reckon the personal training by Aldon Baker is THE factor... RV2 had the speed and talent... So you add these up.. He is practically unbeatable!!!!
And trust me.. He will not make any mistakes like last year!
As for Reed... He got lucky when he won San Diego.... And he will not win another race...
You will have better chances betting on Canard. But he shud learn (Hopefully he will be a better learner) not to make too many mistakes.
As for Dungey... As long as RV & JS & TC and CR are running in the top 5.. Dungey will not win...
JS7 has suprised me this year that he has made this many mistakes. I know he has been a crasher in the past (especially his first few years) but he had seemed to smooth out a bit the last series that he won the championship. Result of not racing for over a year? Don't know. As far as RV being unbeatable, I would not say that. At least 3 of his wins this year have been handed to him, but again being in the right place at the right time is part of racing, capitalizing on others mistakes. We will see how the rest of the series plays out, there are quite a few races left.
I still say that Dungey will win one this year, if he can get a holeshot, or at least get out top 2 or 3, as is riding motivated that day, I think he can win. I'd be willing to put a friendly little $10 wager on it just for fun... you game?
Motohead279.. Valid point.
RV2 is still the man for me to win this championship!
As for the Dungey.. Let's keep it t a gentlemen bet.. He,he... Just moved to a new house with a huge, huge mortgage... Making one bank extremely happy...
Let's see if the Dnge can pull one win...
