Racer X Race Report: San Diego
Sunday, February 20, 2011 | 8:20 AMWe could start this race report off by making a joke about the storm in the sky being surpassed only by the storm on the track, or go on and on about how anything can happen in the rain, and both would be right, but neither would be new information to you. If you were following the weather in the days leading up to the race, you know San Diego was in for a deluge or hard rain, and if you’re a fan of racing, you know just how crazy things can get in those conditions. Of course, what you didn’t know, was how the races would play out, and odds are, you wouldn’t have been able to predict what went down at California’s last round of supercross in 2011.
In the Lites class, Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen had been fast all day. He was fastest in practice, and led every single lap of his heat race. Early in the day, he said he loved the mud and seemed genuinely excited for a wet race. Unfortunately for Roczen, he was involved in a first turn crash in the main event.

Eli Tomac nailed the Lites holeshot in front of his teammate Jimmy Decotis.
Garth Milan photo
It was Eli Tomac who nailed the holeshot, and after battling briefly with Josh Hansen, the Geico Powersports Honda rider started to check out. Behind him, Hansen, the Lites points leader, was trying to avoid trouble. Hansen’s broken hand is far from healed though, and he was clearly not able to run at his usual pace. It wasn’t long before he started to slide backwards. First, he was passed by Tomac’s teammate Jimmy Decotis, then, Hansen’s teammates Tyla Rattray and Broc Tickle went past. Lucas Oil Troy Lee Honda’s Cole Seely came through, too, and Hansen let them all go through without putting up a fight.
Decotis was riding well in the slippery conditions, but he soon fell victim to the charging trio of Rattray, Tickle and Seely, as well. Tickle needed to get on the move and make up max points on Hansen, and with all three pushing hard, it wasn’t long before they were slicing through lappers. It seemed certain that the lappers would provide some passing opportunites for Tickle and Seely against Rattrey, but that just didn’t happen. Even though you could have thrown a blanket over the three of them for much of the race, the battle turned into a game of follow the leader, which left Rattray second and Tickle third. Sometimes that’s what happens when a track gets soaking wet.

Hansen slid into second early, but was unable to keep pace while riding with a broken hand.
Garth Milan photo

Tickle scored a podium with third, but could have benefitted from making up maximum points on Hansen.
Garth Milan photo
Hansen held on for sixth, preserving his points lead by a single point over Tickle as the West Lites tour goes on a break for nearly two months. However, Hansen announced before the race that his hand has gotten so bad that he will have to undergo surgery to insert a plate. Will even two months be enough healing time for Hanny?
Roczen's seventh place finish didn’t look impressive on paper, but once you consider the fact that he crashed twice during the race, you start to realize that seventh place was actually pretty good.
Even if Roczen had not crashed at all, he may not have had anything for Tomac anyway. The Colorado kid led every single lap, had the fastest lap and best average lap times of the race, and took the win by over 10 seconds. The rookie was flying out there, and now that he’s broken through for a win, he’s not going to be satisfied with anything less. Expect more great finishes from Tomac when the Western Region resumes in Salt Lake City.

No one could touch Eli Tomac on this night.

Rattray (left) scored a solid second after missing Anaheim 2 with a back injury.

Let’s get into the 450 main. Does it seem like nobody can get on a roll this year? Ryan Villopoto started the year out great, then he finished completely off the podium with a pair of crashes in Oakland, and got flat beat by James Stewart at A2. Stewart had dominating performances in Oakland and especially A2, then had a disastrous race last week in Houston. Trey Canard had been plagued by bad starts, unti he pulled out a dramatic victory last week. Ryan Dungey hasn’t won any races yet, but he also had a terrible race at A2 when his chain derailed, relegating him to last place. So far, this season is still hard to predict.
Stewart and Dungey need to make up points, while a victory for RV could have given him the momentum he needs to start turning this season into a runaway. All three of them needed wins tonight, but when it was over, none of them were standing on top of the podium.

Even in a driving rain, Villopoto looked flawless in his heat race. The main event would not go so well.
Garth Milan photo
America loves a comeback, and as those stories go, this one is pretty good. When the dust, or in this case mud, settled, it was Chad Reed who crossed emerged the victor. Reed, who had to start his own team this year, who struggled through the first few races, who many had given up on, started the race right when he grabbed the holeshot. He led for a few laps before Canard caught and passed him. Then, Canard crashed all by himself, allowing Reed and Stewart to go by. By then, Reed had found his groove and started hitting his marks, pulling out a lead. Stewart wasn’t closing on him. In fact, Canard and Dungey were both closing on Stewart, but before they could pounce, Stewart stalled his bike and coughed up a couple positions to Canard and Dungey. Canard then crashed again, and Dungey inherited second place, where he would finish out the night. Stewart passed the downed Canard to take third.

Chad Reed (22)grabbed the holeshot in the SX Main.
Garth Milan photo

Riding the momentum of last weeks' win, Trey Canard made a pass on Reed and led early. Then he crashed in the mud.
Garth Milan photo
So where was Villopoto in all of this? RV was in a first turn crash, and it was bad enough that when he got going again, he was almost half a track behind the second to last rider. He also lost his front number plate and rear fender. Earlier in the day, Villopoto mentioned how important getting a good start was tonight. Well, he holeshot his heat race and won it, then got a bad start in the main and ended up on the ground miles behind the nearest racer. Turns out these pro racers know a thing or two about racing.

James Stewart didn't have his usual speed, but took third.
Garth Milan
Villopoto managed to charge his way back to seventh, which is a pretty good ride when you consider how far back he was at the beginning of the race. It also allowed him to maintain a slim margin on Stewart in the standings.

Reed found his groove and logged a solid 20 laps.
Garth Milan photo
Kevin Windham pulled out of this race early after an early crash in the main. He did have a nasty wreck in his heat race that left him holding his wrist in pain. It’s very possible that his departure from the race could be related to that crash, although he did dominate the LCQ.
That’s it from the night’s action here in San Diego. Make sure you visit www.racerxonline throughout the week for more updates, news, and analysis from the race.

Reed's win seemed improbable just a few months ago.

Has it ever been this close between five riders after seven rounds? 85? I don`t know but this is one of the best seasons ever, so far.
I was glad to see Chad Reed pull off a win this year, don't think he'll be a player for the SX title this year but it was good to see that he still has competitve speed along with seeing him on top of the box after all this time, I'm sure he'll get on there once or twice more before season's end. To all the folks that will be bashing Josh Hansen (cause I'm sure they'll get on here with their lit torches) I think he did well under the circumstances. He rode well enough to keep his points lead, so hopefully he can heal up enough on the break and ensure he can do what he needs to so he can secure the number one plate for the West. And Ryan Villopoto, loved seeing him rock the white trash style on his Factory Kawasaki with the number plate missing along w/ the rear fender, all he would have needed is a paddle tire on the back and he would have fit in out at Glamis on a holiday weekend about 20-25 years ago. I used to see some ghetto setups out there back in the day and that is the first thing I thought when seeing him haul ass around that SX track like that. That's all I have to say for now...
1st: I am a stewart fan
2nd: I was a reed hater by default
3rd: I am still a stewart fan
4th: I am no longer a reed hater(not sure I really ever was anyway)
5th: This is the best season since 2006
6th: I am happy for cr22, can't believe people counted him out
7th: TC41 is fun fun fun to watch...200%
8th; rv2 is fast fast fast, if he started up front...well you know the rest
9th: js7 looked bored and didn't seem to care what was happening around him, that's ok though, he didn't land on anyone...
10th: An average js7 is really really boring to watch...just sayin
11th: something in my hopes RD5 doesn't win a race this year...not sure why cuz I like the kid(confused)
12th: rather than hating on riders each week, as moto fans I am no longer going to invest in that. I am going to sit back and enjoy the dynamics of each week. 5-6 guys can win...i love it...
Congrats to Reed! This year is the year of patience! The top 5 all have a shot at it, each rider brings a different specialty to the evening. Onward to Hotlanta!
Top five for Jimmie Decotis!
Hats off to Mr Reed and Team Two Two Impresive!!! What a season we have this year and the battle rages on.
Had to get on the roof 3 times to clean the sattelite dish. For this race tho every slip and slide was worth it damn Utah weather. I will admit I was wondering if reed had a win in him glad to see he did and I bet there is more to come.
Food for thought: Dungey is the only rider in the top five who hasn't lost points because of mistakes. His was a mechanical DNF. Take that away, he's within single digits (was in fifth with a shot at fourth when the chain derailed). Washed up? The RD bashers make me laugh. His approach will see him battling for championships for years to come. Just sayin'.
hansen's pass on cunningham was soo dirty, i mean the guys got ten years on everyone else and he still needs to ride like a goon and take people out. hopefully he gets a taste of his own medicine soon. good luck in the 450 class hanny
Congrats to Reedy. Tough luck again for K-Dub. Stick with it, Kevin!
Hansen just finished sixth (seventh even w/o "the pass") prior to having his finger plated on Monday. Pretty sure there isn't a "man" out here that could do that. I didn't like the pass, but Cunningham is a wild child himself (most crashes this season?) and who among us knows what might have been going on between those two? Kyle DID whip it in Josh’s face just prior. (Imagine if Hanny’s championship ended right there.) AND, Hanny did get the proverbial "wheel" on him; the slippery track definitely exacerbated the chaos ... AND he still didn't LAND on the guy. Again, no one here has been in a position of riding with a broken hand (for the second straight race), desperately trying to maintain a championship lead in a downpour, and his competition for the crown already past. But you’ll talk a good game. If you had no venom for Sipes and Malcolm last week (who were not, at that point, battling for a crown), give it a rest with Hanny.
ktm 144: Yes, Hansen has been riding aggressive but at the same time, he has been winning too, and he hasn't been doing it all of the time. I really don't begrudge Hansen for the agressive riding and Cunningham has been way agressive this season as well, taking himself and others out as well; I'd just chalk it up to a racing incident and leave it at that.
dirty move i never realy liked hanson, but his run this year had me becoming a fan. that move ruined it for me.i think hes a *****. go eli
I just read a tweet from CR22 to DV12 Reed trying to figure out what he is I liked the (byiteer) term yes Chad deos buy it all the only thing we mere mortals cannot buy is his talent, drive, desire, brain's and no matter what level of racing most of all you have to have some luck. Remember also he could go off and do whatever he wants to do and we are lucky that Chad loves racing enough to do it his way. It shows what can be done if you really want it.
I would never count Reed out from winning this Championship as someone stated above. With 5 guys within striking distance, the chances of "incidents" are much higher. So far 7 rds, and 4 different winners in the 450 class, excellent! It's only a matter of time before Dungey gets his win.
Hansen.....yeah Cunningham isn't a saint out there, but that was about as stupid as a pass gets. Don't expect anything else from the Lil one though. "Racing incidents" crack me up. A guy comes up the inside and blasts the other guy in a blatant fashion and it's considered an "incident"? My favorite rider (RV) did that last year and I called it like I saw it, B.S.! Once in awhile, there isn't anything wrong with being objective and saying your favorite or a guy you like acted like a jerk out there or did something wrong. That does happen and there isn't anything wrong with calling it like it is. For anyone that thinks that was a "racing incident" then there is no such thing as a take out move.
Reed.....nice ride but.....I saw Rick Ryan win Daytona in 1987 in mud over RJ, Lechien, Ward, O'Mara....mud is a huge game changer. As if we saw THE James Stewart floundering around out there in the squishy stuff last night. If anyone thinks Reed's win makes him a title contender again........sorry. Unless every round gets hammered with the wet stuff from here out, then anything can happen.
Hansens pass left me mad for one reason. It looked like he just got out of the way for Cunningham and was gonna let him go then next the corner blasts him. If your gonna just move out the way for people just to take them out then I have a problem with that. If you made a mistake and were actually fighting for that position and came inside and held a line not cut over the 4 ruts in that corner then that's fine. Hansen was my man for the west now I'm all for tickle.
Halfe316. Very well said, though I hope RD wins 2-3 and we have a close Title fight. Steward congratulating Reed was very classy. RD rode very well, ahead of the series leaders, and is doing what he needs to in order to get back in this. I am for a 5-way tie going into Vegas and winner takes all. However, I am not holding my breath on that one.
Man, Tomac ran away and was 10 seconds ahead in 4 laps, held a 13 second lead for a lot of the race, then cruised in to win by 10 seconds, but barely got a mention. It was all about Hansen's hand and the battle waaaay behind Tomac. Let's not forget the big news that Tomac won last night! Isn't that his 1st SX win? He smoked them and had a faster lap time than Stewart! No mention of that?
Villopoto's ride, wow.
Speed channel will have a 3 hour San Diego SX special on at 3PM Central time.
Dungey Sucks................everything he gets is by default...............hes got to feel like squid.
Congrats to Reed. That's awesome for him and the team. Canard was flying. If he had kept er on 2 wheels he would have won 2 in a row. The points chase is awesome. Glad I got my Vegas tickets. Hope it goes down to the last race that would be rad.
Tomac was ripping too. It would have been cool to see Roczen up there too with him. Those 2 had a solid heat race battle. Hansen's pass was brutal... he needs to get out of that lites class already. It's time he moved up to the 450.
If I were told before the season started that the top 5 guys would be within 23 points of each other after round 7, I wouldn't have been surprised. But what a long, strange trip it's been to get to this point. Did they have the WWF write the story lines for this season? And after all the Alessi bashing I did the first month of the season, I guess I have to shut up about that. He's an outdoor type guy, but he's stepping it up lately. Congrats to Eli...go get 'em!
If Dungys DNF was a forth place would be sitting six points out of the lead. Just sayin. Last year was no fluke, will find the speed to win a couple of these things
hansen is a crap i hope barcia killed that guy in Vegas, craig, canda, and now cuningham. hopefully barcia gives you medicine pro circuit *****es, and its funny eli really smoke lastnight. finally mitch has a team to fell worry about it, And remember geico honda is a support team and right now they're working hard. And Trey canard, damm man you are a real player right know its awesome to have a guy like you in the sport.
RACER X AND SPEED LOVES PROCIRCUIT AND JAMES STEWART. THEY JUST THINK BARCIA'S DIRTY AND PUT AN ARTICLE ABOUT HIM AND HIS AGRESIVE RIDING AND JUST SHUT UP FOR HANSEN, HE IS A PEACE OF MY SHIT AND HE RIDES LIKE A GIRL. IM JOSH HANSEN AND I THINK IM A BAD BOY HAHAHAHAHA YOU ONLY WIN DIRTY STUPID ANIMAL,
YEAH ALL THE PRO CIRCUIT GUYS THEY USUALLY THINK THEY ARE THE SHIT. BUT WITH OUT A PRO CIRCUIT BIKE THEY SUCK. THE ONLY GUY TU RESPECT IS TICKLE AND RATRAY
i hate ralph shahenn he sucks and speed too they dont care the sport. they just always talk about the fukest man on the plante. look at james stewart, loooooook at james stewart. loooooooooooooook at james stewart. i hate you ralphour sport will be better with out you
well, MEXICANN, at least you have a good attitude about it!
( LOL )
Thumbs up halfe316 right there with u,a b-kr have you looked at the points, like bubba rc and the rest of them say don't count reed out ever.when I think back the last 20 years I remember champions n the year but not all race wins,,although reed is way up there, top 5!! There are so many great guys out there I don't have a absolute favorite. But as I've said in the past.....here comes reed......
Great race. CR will just get faster..
Class comment by JS after the race too
Who said Reed wouldn't win this year? Dont even go wtih the conditions blah blah blah. Dungey will also win this year. I wantted Villo to win it all im amazed that he is leading considering some of his starts, I wouldnt know but they say championships are won on your bad days.
Dirt ahhhh Mud
Why the big surprise over Hannys only move ? He changed it up a litltle by going for the front wheel instead of a full on side punt. He gets points for riding hurt in my book . Cunningham WILL even the score for himself and all the others, watch.
Dirt
I dont wish anyone to get hurt, but I would be lying if I said that I wanted that turd Hansen to win the West. I hope that his hand heals, but I also hope that he loses the title. And where are the folks that were saying Reed wouldnt even get another podium this year? LOL.
Not a big Stewart fan or hater ( unless he doesnt do TGO) . James did look uninspired but hey Villo was behind him and he had more to lose than gain in those conditions. Didnt see anything close to the 53 times he threw down in the qualies. That was a smart mature ride, check the points
JimM
CarlsbadCa
Thor and Kawi: "uhh, ooooooooops."
I didnt think that move was that bad because that what i've come to expect from him. The three points puts him up by three but I don't know. Its one thing to do Tomac , Canada and Tickle like that but Cunningham? Tick tock tick tock tick tock ...........thats the clock ticking down till Cunnigham takes the CShip out Hansens grasp. Just when I was starting to quit basihng Hanny a little.
JimM
Carsbad
Cunningham should clean him out! I was hoping for him to catch back up and put Hanny in the cheep seats! It was a stupid move and with a championship on the line now has a bounty on his head. Nobody will feel sorry for him when he gets takin out... Championships are won on your bad nights. RV has more passes then all top 5 combined...... 3-4 starts outside the top 12....
AUSSIE! AUSSIE! AUSSIE! OI! OI! OI! Congratulations to all of team Two Two. I think a smart rider will win this title & CHAD is a very smart guy + so is Dungey. Unless JS7 gets good starts every race IMHO he is done.
This is a SX championship that will be remembered.
Nice to see ET19 get his first SX win, can he win the title?, IMO Hanny will get pay back for all the s##t he does & not clinch the west Lites title, IMHO BT20= 2011 west coast SX Lites champ, but I'm pull'n for ET19!!!!
SAFETY FIRST RIDERS
just had to say it again..........
the real douche bag move was cunningham flashin his rear wheel right in hansen's face 20 feet in the air. silly boy. hansen was just letting him know that the time and place for aggressive moves is on the ground, not in the air, and, if ya wanna do it with classic sx style, ya do it in a corner. and just like an old pro, hansen was gonna finnish the job the first time, lord knows what type of crap cunningham would have came back with.
oh and where all all the 'informed fans' of the sport that were bashing reed now?
@Jimbo James Stewart threw down a 53.9 in qualifiers then RV threw down a 53.9 in his heat race.
Go hanny!!!
Funny, but the article didn't mention tthe CHEAP SHOT Hanseny put on Cunningham!
I'm watching this Speed coverage of the race. What's with this Mike Martin of monster truck judging? Kind of racial. Seemed stoned when he said, "It's gonna be lottalotta excitement."
The two best rides of the night were CR and RV i believe!!! It was actually nice to see Reed get that win and you could tell it meant a lot to him after the race!! Stewart did not look comfortable in the main at all, it could be as someone said, that he knew RV was behind him and that he would gain points on him, "smart" ride....I guess?? RV WAS pushing it....great ride by him too!! Sef, I can't believe you STILL reference JS (though indirectly) when talking about Hansen drilling Cunningham....what about RD running right in to the back of Byrne?? Didn't he see that he had STOPPED in front of him?? I forgot, nothing can happen that would ever be as bad as something Stewart is involved with, right?? Thats funny! Anyway, Stewart gains points on RV and Reed and Dungey gain some points on both of them....this thing just tightened up a bunch......awesome!! Lets get to some stadiums with lids on 'em for awhile !!
Cunnigham earned what he got over the finish line jump. Props to Hanny for hanging on to the points lead with his injury. Now Hanny and Barcia both need haircuts, they look like idiots.
From the TV angle that whip by Cunningham sure looked sketchy. Wonder where that came from ? That sure got 100's adrenalin up for a bit. Either way its on between those two and Hanny has alot more to lose. Bye,Bye Cship when Cunningham gets his shot.
J
poor Hanny got his feelings hurt when Cunningham whiped it. It doesn't take talent to do what Hanny did to him, any one of them out there could do that if they felt like being a dick. Cunningham caught him, passed him and didn't even touch him. And Hanny has to do that, could of cost him some points if he fell. He's one smart feller there.
fan of the sport, didnt Dungey just get 2nd place?? So I doubt he feels like a squid, that wasnt a very smart comment. Reed ran a great race, he was pulling alot of time on Stewie and was gapping him, he was on. It was weird when Stewie stalled his bike. Havent seen a top guy stall out in a few seasons, it was strange. RV2 had a terrible time early, but he was flying too. If he had a good start, he would have done some damage. But he can pass like nobodies business. Canard has a never say die attitude, he doesnt no the meaning of ride conservative, he was pushing no matter what. And TOMAC-- the kid got a victory in his rookie season, and guys told me I was an idiot when I said he may get a win this year, were are they now..
Way to go Reed! If he keeps getting good starts he'll be right there. Still a lot of races left and now he has some serious confidence.
All fans will agree that he is not the first rider to take another rider out ... and some of the viewers who watched the race appear to think that the move was done in retaliation. I am OK with it if no one gets injured. At least the lites class is NOT a bunch of lightweights!
On the Lites podium, could Tomac possible hang a bit more crap around his neck? We can still see his nose.
Wow, Villopoto was looking like a bad a$$ with no front number plate and no rear fender after a crash, and after being 1/2 lap behind the 19th place rider and working his way back up to maintain his points lead. Let's face it, he's the man.
Some guys are destined for great things. Like John Force, when he crashed and crawled out of the black, smoking wreckage to walk back down the dragstrip in a cloud of smoke. Villopoto is made of the same stuff. Kind of like Pastrana.
Love the Twitter updates...being in Ohio I was watchin' the Speed broadcast and found out @CRtwotwo had won seven minutes before the race ended! Lovin' the coverage your staff provides!
Congrats to Reedy, and congrats to Eli!! Colorado is proud of you Buddy!!
RV straight railed it after being half a lap down from 19th place!!
(Thats how Champions do it Ladies and Gents!!)
This season is turning out to be a great one!! Keep it up Fellas!!!
Wow, how soon everybody forgets. That take out of KC35 by Hansen was exactly the same move KC35 put on Roczen, except Hanney didn't take himself out in the process. Looks to me like Cunningham got a little of his own medicine. Besides, Whippin it in front of Hansen must have pissed him off. Live and learn...............
Does anybody know what caused Villopoto to lose 1/2 a lap to the 2nd to last place rider on the first lap? How did he go down?
First, Cunningham got his verbal lashing when HE was in the wrong. Now it's Hanny's turn. I never heard that Hanny was now the sheriff that needed to retaliate for Roczen or whoever else Cunningham may have wronged. I guess maybe Hanny didn't like getting a tire waved in his face, but I think that is the angle we all had on TV. Maybe still it was uncalled for, but I agree with the people saying that Hanny just opened himself up for a retaliation that could cost him dearly in the title chase. Cunningham seems to be a guy that doesn't let things go as seen with the Roczen deal.
I heard RV had to actually pull into the pits to get what was left of the rear fender pulled off. Of course, why would anyone want to know that from the TV telecast.....? I was screaming at the TV as we watched Reed roll around after getting the checkers while guys were scrambling for the line.....which we got to see none of. I also like that as soon as a guy falls, he is listed as "Out" on the position scroll at the top of the screen. At one point a guy in around 6th was listed as "out" because he just went down, even though he got up a few spots back.
I wonder if Tomac is sponsored by the company that sells the coconut water he was drinking on the podium? If he is, he forgot to mention it. But I still googled it anyway, so maybe it was just effective guerrilla marketing! Can't wait to see Cunningham pay Hansen back!!!
Woohoo! I wasn't even planning on going till my wife surprised me with tickets. Go Reed! Thata boy! That was domination from my seat. Crazy night. There was even hail for a minute. Stayed till the very very end (thank you ponchos). Went down to the podium and witnessed Stewie and Dungey drench Reed with the bubbly. took the trolly back to the hotel and laughed at the nightmare which was the parking lot traffic. I'll never forget 2011 san diego.
Oh! Also got pics with Roczen and Miss Supercross. She's so hot. Can you tell I'm stoked? So stoked!
How many more people is James Stewart going to land on, jump on, run into before he really hurts someone?
First off I would just like to say well said sef154 as well as Stacy K.
Now for all you HATERS get a life, or start watching soap operas or lawn bowling.
Get of Hansens back he rode as well as he could have if anyone NOTICED once he got some laps behind him and some adrenaline in him he rode fine. (i recently broke my hand and it was around two weeks later that I had the most pain & least amount of movement) and Cunningham got what he came looking for.
As far as the R.D. thing goes I've posted this before,he's fast then then learns more then haul a$$ again look at his career so far. Also can you get you're heads out of you're a$$e$ JS DID NOT land on top of JT if he did with the amount of damage to his front rotor JT would be missing a limb, watch again he hit his rear wheel even JT say's it was just an incident.
If you can't apreciate the season were having just go AWAY... just saying
Great to see Reedy back on top! Congrats 22 motorsports...
Decotis top 5! Nice. Also, good to see KTM starting to roll. Keep it up Shorty and Alessi!
Next week, The Wizard (RD1) and The Flying Squirrel (Dw15) taking down wins!!!
snooki Paluzzi, Davalos, and roczen all have the speed but cant buy a break. Ride4EVA... Cunningham also took out DAvalos when he took out roczen. It would have been Davalos' night at dodger stadium if not for KC35. last night He put that wheel about 4 inches from hanny's goggles, almost thought he was gonna Lil' stewey him! Hansen must have gotten mad cuz he let kyle get what he had coming. Hanny did put him down, But why does KC35 ride with such a chip on his shoulder this year??? i always been a fan but dayam he's getting gnarly. Good Job Reedy. in true privateer form, killed it
I'm a Reed fan, actually, I'm a fan of any rider that can make the main in the premier class.. But, before the main, I had said to my brother, "One thing is for sure, Reedy will not holeshot and Reedy will not win tonight" LOL. Never say never. Hats off to him and also James who is showing a lot of class this season. I get the feeling James is so confident that he will win the title this year, that he just does not need to put out on a track that does not suit his style do kudos to him.
Also, anyone get the feeling in a year or two we will see James and Chad join forces as "one" team? They are both fine racers and I don't think it is going to take them long to figure out that they don't really need to work for anybody but themselves since they are risking their lives, not anyone else. Chad already did it and if James joins on as equal partner, I can just see all the sponsors running to them and their team. It would also be fair justice IMO because there was no way Kawa should have ever let James go at his peak and no way that Yamaha and Suzuki should have let Reed go. Teams are showing a huge amount of disrespect to the top racers in the world so what could be better than the top racers outdoing all the top teams!!!
well few weeks ago, some guys here were definite that CR22 would never see the TOP STEP again...
Well guess what, he did it on a team that he owned, managed and ride with!
Congrats to TWO TWO Motorsports!!!!
MEXICANN thumbs up dude. An as for stewart wtf was that you rode so f-ing slow you killed it in the corner wtf. I think he's show has got to his head. Look at how he rode two years ago he was the fastest man around look at him now not no more in my book an its sad cus i'm a big big fan but starting to loose faith. GO Reed I'm glad you won. keep em coming champ.
How about a supercross demo derby at the break before the main events?
My money is on Hannie and Stewie!!
This far into the season and we have:
rv2
Js7 (-3)
cr22 (-16)
tc41 (-16)
rd5 (-23)
all on the same race. That's 5 guys all in the same race, and a tie for third. How long has it been since that has happened?
woo hoo.
I have to agree watching JS7 ride around was so boring but you cant hate on the guy. After all he rode but but closed in points. Its just maturity. He knows he is fater than anyone else and with 10 races remaining he was better off with a podium than pushing and crashing and risking it. This thing is gonna go down to the wire but Im still betting on Dungey, Canard or JS7 for the title. Remember Dungey had a DNF and is still very much in contetention. At one point he was 37 down on RV now he is only 23. Take the DNF out and he would be right there with RV and JS.
What??? Nobody's said a word about witnessing the rare Sub-Frame Enema that 250 rider took after his wrench forgot to install the seat bolts? OUCH!!!
"Thank you sir may I have another!!"
@dgizzy, 23 behind is 23 behind, no matter how you define the consequences... The Dunge takes a lot of time passing people when in traffic.. He must figure out those differences before that No. 1 plate will be stripped off from his bike... CR22 made it from dead last to 6th or 7th. RV made it from dead last to 7th... If the dunged would succumb to the same faith as theirs, I don't think he could come that close given the performance he showed when in traffic...
But I do still believe that The Dunge is still the man to beat comes outdoor season.
So far, the season has lived up to its hype... Top 4 had gone to the top of the box.
GO CHAD HOLY $#!T I KNEW HE COULDDO IT
NOW WHERE IS THE D!CK#EAD THAT RECKONED HE WOULD NOT WIN AGAIN
HUH!!!! WHERE ARE YOU HIDING YOU INTERNET FORUM USING HEAP OF CRAP, AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OI OI OI!!!!!!
Heres to our man CHad bringing home the silverware come vegas. If reedy can beat em tonight he can damn sure beat em again, DONT COUNT HIM OUT HE WILL WIN AGAIN!!!!
Dickheads I think Mitch. Gota love it. Go Chad. I don't care if he doesn't win, he is riding well, doing his own thing and still up there with the best, washed up!!! don't think so. They are all awesome. Can't believe anyone calls out any of these guys. Also never find any of this boring, just watching these guys is great.
Well so far the JS (3 wins) is done he will never win a gain people are gone, The Reed ( 1 win)is done he will never win again people are now gone, The RV (2 wins) will never come back from that to win again people are gone, The RD ( 0 wins)will smoke them all people are gone..... RV IS AN ANIMAL!!!!! He looked like he was on a dry track the way he went by guys!!! Show me another guy who can come thru the pack like RV... JS is the only one. Anyone else who got the start RV had would not have make to 10 I would bet on it.
AARON... You say >Villopoto managed to charge his way back to seventh, which is a pretty good ride when you consider how far back he was at the beginning of the race< Pretty good??? That ride he put on was UNREAL!!! Show me ANYONE else out there that could do that!!! RD would not have made it up to 12th I bet!!! hell 1 more lap and RV could have had 5th!! .... Pretty good...LMAO!!!
Funny to hear you defend Hanny, sef, The way you rip into other guys for way less than that. Hmmmm
WOW shocked to hear so many of you say Reed has a shot at the title, Like I said last week under sertain condidtions others can win but on a normal night only RV and JS can win. There is no one out there that can match them head to head on the track, They only get beat when there is a mud race or a bad start and guys like RD, Reed and TC can't count on that happening every week. The last few weeks have been odd. Point, If RD, Reed or TC got the start RV did where would thay have ended up?? not in the top 10 I would bet on it. I would HATE to see someone who did not win a race win the title, Or someone who only won on an odd night. To me that would cheapen it. But that my opion.
whatever I said the same thing when I saw RD slam into Byrne!!! WTF how did you not see him?? LOL
damn chain! great five way battle.they are all bad dudes, get over it haters. do you d bags realize how fast weston p. is? c. blose? and the big 5 vanish from them....im rooting for all 5 take it to vegas boys.
Concerning Dungeys bump into back of Burner... We only saw a side view on the tube, muddy conditions most likely played a part here, possible Dunge coming out of deep rut I don't know. People want to see Dungey ride more aggresive on the other hand if he does make a mistake people are ready to pounce. Top 5 guys are just amazing. Have a good day!
Not pouncing on RD, He NEEDS to be aggresive, That was not being aggresive he hit a stoped guy.
Great ride for the Two Two's and congrats to Lars!!!
Man, lots of luck for the Dunge thats for sure. Trey handed him his podium position twice in one race and JS7 was obviously just getting points and if he didnt stall he would have had second. After a bad week last week and RV2 having a bad go this week, I am impressed JS7 kept his cool and salvaged points on a risky track. The first 5-6 laps....stewart passed 5 or 6 guys including Dungey and was catchin 22 and 41....then Trey fell and 22 took off....JS7 said he road bad, but almost a 2 second faster qualifier??? .....I think the sign of the laps will show RV2 was just as fast if not faster than Reed.
BTW, love the double standard between JS7 running into Thomas while both were racing and then RD running into the back of Byrne, who not to mention was at a dead stop.....classic.
I agree Redbeard, i really dont believe that Dungey did anything wrong so to speak, and once again (and everybody hates this phrase) it was racing!! The simple fact remains, if JS would have run in to the back of Byrne, these boards would have LIT UP with people *****ing and crying about it!! That is a fact!! I also agree that RV probably had the best "ride" of the night, CR had a great one too and it was good to see him get it, but man there wasn't anybody who was attacking and pushing to move forward as hard as RV was!! AFter Trey passed Reed i really thought TC would go on for the win, he was starting to pull and looked really good, BUT, as you said Redbeard, after he fell, Reed stepped it up big time, you could tell he knew it was his at that point!! Also, no one has mentioned it yet, so i will, i thought i t was pretty classy of STewart (the guy who many say never gives credit to other riders) went up to chad while CR was doing his interview, and tapped him on the chest and shook his hand congratulating him!!! Nice move JS!!
I dont think Byrne was injured or even knocked down, he got bumped, not landed on.. I think that is the reason.. And Dungey hasnt ever hurt anyone before either. So not a double standard..
I wouldnt be surpirsed if RV did have the fastest laps Redbeard, he was hauling , and Dungey is as fast, but just cant come through the pack at all. He better keep getting good starts, he can stay on the podium fairly consistant if he does. But he needs to start putting in a wheel and being aggresive if he gets caught in the back. Reed looked great, he said something about 3 weeks ago that he recieved some help from Honda, maybe that made a difference, might have been some suspension parts or something.
Gee BD200 last year when I said RD is not good at passing guys you yelled at me for weeks now you are saying it.... Funny stuff. Als I think any help he got from Honda was nulafied by the mud IMO.
No, Byrne was not injured but its just and example of how people jump all over JS7 about crazy things like that and RD is a saint. RD has had his moments and he has crashed into people before in the lites and has had some pretty good crashes all by himself....it happens. So far this season, Dungey has not been able to hold off JS7, TC, RV or even CR....he has not actually passed them for the podium positions, they have handed it to him by falling.....Yes, it still counts as that is racing, but in head to head racing, RD has not come out on top....He lets the other guys race it out and takes advantage of misfortune....
Great race for Jimmy Decotis, hes really fast and deserves to be up there battling for a spot on the podium, keep him on a pro team and with more practice and experience he should be top 5 week in week out. Anybody catch the triple he was doing in the rhythm section with the step on step off deal at the end, ONLY RIDER to do it. 450 guys didn't even size it up...GO #66
I dont thin k the mud was that bad. It wasnt like it was a sloppy mud race. It had a few guys sliding around, but not that bad. Because Dungey cannot ride in the really bad mud, and he got second. Reed got some suspension help from Honda, and anyone who has been on a track knows suspension is everything. Dungey passed alot better last season. The only guy he never passed was RV. And now he acts like he is riding on eggshells. I think he is missing Decosters advice.
The lites class needs to keep there eyes on Ben Evans. He's only gonna get faster over the next few years. So happy for him. 8th! Go get'em Ben. Your loyal Utah fans.
