Knew we would hear this week, would have put my money on TLD if I had to bet. This could just be another "test" ride though. I just hope like he!! he is in for the season
He's TESTING...nothing is in concrete yet!!! He was just at Yamaha yesterday.
this makes sense...Townley is gone...get's the Pro circuit stuff...sticks to the honda he seems to like...and a way better team than hart and huntington..besides ...valli is full ..l&m i doubt..and they have two guys..don't see him riding a ktm..moto-concepts is full..kawi won't work..suzuki is set..honda set...and gieco has windham..and he doesn't have to start his own team...looks like a clear choice right here..

but how can they afford Reed if they couldn't afford to match Townley's overseas offer? Of course I am assuming they could not afford to keep Townley, but maybe they had the money but didn't feel Townley was worth the extra $ they would have had to pay him?
If you were the "race manager" and knew you had Reed coming in to test your bike and you were trying to sign him. Any "intelligent" PR guy would have his numbers pre-printed on the bike. BTsmith...open your eyes. Yes, he may end up signing with them, but right now it's nothing more than a "test". Sorry to disappoint!

Would love to see him on a Factory bike where he belongs. I guess it will be the loss of the factory teams and the gain of a team like TLD. Unfortunately for Reed, he's probably going to sign for a "lot" less. Why walk away from 5MIL on the table with Kawi?
Everybody see how much offense hondarider took to my comment? Poor guy must have little man's syndrome. And for the record, I'm a TLD guy & ride Honda, but can't stand Reed. So if he's not on TLD Honda, sweet deal.
TLD is a team that is superbly run with great equipment. Plus they MAY have Red Bull money that could help get Reedy on board.
hondarider19, There's no way in this economy Reed had 5Mil if he stayed with Kawasaki. He never looked good on the bike anyway.

A championship contender on a "privateer" bike? That sounds pretty damn cool to me!
Red Bull is one of the premier sponsors on the TLD team... I don't know why the rumor keeps coming up that they are leaving. Ben's situation was dificult because he didn't want to do SX in 2011. It's very difficult to maintain value here in the US when you only want to do nationals. In Europe he is seen as a title contender, and I believe he will be, so his value is higher. There is no ink signed on this deal yet but Chad likes the Honda, likes the PC stuff and wants a legit team where he can win. If he is going to race in 2011, this is the place for him. I hope it all works out. Bike looks good with 22 on it, doesn't it?
personally I'm really tired of Chad Reed and his games. noone really cares.. he's a washed up Cy cry-baby... give it up. GO DUNGEY!!!
HAha dont beleive the hype!! Reed is weighing hid options. He is looking for the right bike 1st then make a deal. yesterday at Yami track now TLD. And if so will he be racing for less money than Townley? Remember TLD wanted to keep Ben but Bens offer for GP's was too high for any AMA team to match.
IMO this bike looks super sweet. TLD would be a great choice for cr22. he likes the big red machine and hopefully gets on the team. i always had a love hate feelings for the guy but TLD and pro circuit backing could really do some great things with mister 22! hope to see him @ A1!
I think reedy might end up forming his own team but he is looking for the right bike that suits him first.

Nobody cares? Just look at the messages board dude. There are plenty of people who care. Personally I think Reedy would be a HUGE lost to the series. With all the "what ifs" Dungey had to deal with this year, the series needs all the big guns firing.
Reeds riding red in OZ so it would make a good fit.Riding it in OZ for two months at his deal and won the 1st race.
Remember the comment Ping made in the racerhead? seems like he knew reed was looking at them and then now this. With pre-printed backgrounds. Gets to keep the honda and PC. And in the tweet he put 2011??? as if its going to be like that in 2011. I bet we'll get an announcement saying Reed to TLD later this week or early next.

Nice work Troy!! Nobody tests with printed numbers, surely... unless its all part of the 'marketing' the team to Reed. Makes sense as a number of you here have pointed out. BT wasn't interested in doing AMA supercros (to spend summer back home in NZ)s, only the Nationals and we all know where the money is for the teams right?! Reedy made mention how he likes the 'underdog' tag, racing without the factory setup to prove a few things... TLD's a perfect fit. Reedy on the line for 2011!!!!!!!!!
I love all the critical thinking going on here even after Ping posts a comment about what is going on. Pre-printed backgrounds could be had in anyone's hands in a few days for a few bucks...a National caliber team can have them done same day if they want. I gotta say, with what the NBA recently went through with the Lebron sweepstakes and his tour around the league, what Reed is now doing is eerily similar. I would say if you are wooing a guy like Reed, going full tilt in the effort is the way to go...complete with the bike exactly as it might look in his pit. Smart move TLD! I think this is where he ends up. That bike looks sweet!
If Reed moves to TLD it will add more to the team and the sport. Look what happened after he signed with L&M, now they are a major player in the game. I think the sport would be much better if all the factory teams disappeared and only non-factory teams stay around. I think the racing would be much better. Don't get me wrong the super trick factory parts are super sweet.
Go Reed TLD be perfect, loves the Honda, PC, needs clothing, perfect fit right there! forget yamaha i can see Reed doing well on TLD!! A1 wouldnt be the same without him on the gate, will be an epic season forsure!! pitty BT101 not there tho
I have to say that if this is where he ends up, I called it weeks ago when it was posted that BT101 was leaving TLD.
Townley is off to Europe so it wouldn't surprise me if CR22 ended up on a TLD Honda. It would be a good fit!
Hey Ping, You are right man- the 22 Looks GREAT on that Honda. And for the rest of you guys still assuming what Townley and Reed will be and has been paid etc... Mr Pingree has just written to you all confirming the Townley Situation with the $ etc... SX is the most valuable exposure for any sponsor, Reed is and will be a title contender on what ever he rides (Especially on a bike he's comfortable on!) so to me if I were paying the bills, I would be betting on RED!(22) Great fit. Here's hoping. Thanks for the info Ping. the 101 lives on your bike still now that Townley left the USA. (Is this the real reason??? Haha)
The bike just looks so sweet!!!! TLD would be ringing bells this season if they would stick to CR22 to race this season... TLD had proven the 2010 MX season that their bikes are competitive with the rest of the factory teams... It is just that BT loves soaking dirts, ends up in the ground too often... Of course a price he would pay not racing more than 2 years, then race in a very competitive zone he wasn't prepared. With Reed's consistency, and given that he is 100% healthy and comfortable with the equipment he rode, then he would be a serious threat to anyone... Another exciting A1... And what make it more sweet, he is on a Privateer bike that everyone of us can relate!!!!
TLD is taking a chance on Chad "DAD" Reed. His lack of focus will be blamed on the bike/team.
7 may retire if 22 handles him on a non-factory team. I would love to see that! The bike looks comftorble.

Any top level team that is willing to hire Reed after seeing how he fullfilled his high dollar contract with kawasaki last year will get what they deserve. I personally want to see Reed race in the US for 2011 so we can see how he stacks up to all the new speed. I don't think his ego is goiing to be able to handle it.
Gotta hand it to all of you guys that called this weeks ago. If this doesnt work, there's always KTM and Roger!!! I think that CR's best fit was on a Suzook. I have to think that CR is difficult to work with, otherwise why would he keep switching teams so often (other than the money)? I like Reedy, but he really is a head case...

TWK101, that logic is hard to argue with. I too want him out there and am thrilled to see (hopefully) him on TLD for SX AND MX. Those who think he will be battling for a title though...or even wins? Well...... I'd love to see him romp all over James...but.....not going to happen. Plus you have all this new talent on top of Dungey/RV. Highly competitive top 5's will be the norm for him in 2011. With this field that is actually pretty good.
If you go to Transworld's site they actually took the time to make a phone call and sort some of this out. They talked to team manager Tyler Keefe and he basically said that all of the cards are falling into place and they're excited about the possibility of Reed joining the team.
TWK101 - I agree that this year will be stacked, but I really think that CR and JS will find thier way to the front quite a bit, It certainly wont be the run away like in 09 between those 2. KW has some game as well, he will win one at some point as well (I should say he has the ability to do so). Like you say - Lets get CR on this bike and line them up. It will be an all time season this one. Lets hope the we see them all there come A1.
I love how all you F's act like you know everything. You know exactly how much he makes, how much he was offered, what his life goals are, and exactly what you would do in his situation. When he shows up at the races half will say "I knew exatly what was going on." Face it, you don't know poop. And as far as what you would do; the answer is take the most money, even if Hussaberg offered it. Don't judge him. If Subway called tomorrow and offered you $0.25 an hour more to be their sandwich artist you would take it
Y'all can say what you want but Chads podium days are over. Teams can get RV&Dungey for way less what Reed is asking for and they are confident That these guys will hand it to Reedy all season long. I was gonna include CP but the guy is asking a lot also. CP seems to forget the GP money is not available in USA 2011 but oh well just surprised nothing being said on his deal.
Reed if you are reading this (haha). Please whatever you do just ride. We need you it won't be the same without you. You too Pourcel.
I see Reed on TLD next year. I personally also see him running up front. Last year was the first year in 7 years that he had a bad year in SX. He broke his wrist. So what, new season. If is head is in it, he run with the leaders. All it takes is that 1 race to get the confidence back. If Red Bull is still there i think they can offer him what he wants, or will settle for. I just hope everyone stays healthy this year, tired of the 2 man title run year after year.

And if you think he is asking for more than what Dungey can cammand your completely off base. PING just commented on here that BT 101 didnt want to race supercross, so thats why TLD let him go, not money. Do you not read those post?? BT101 is considered a title contender in the GP's. So he went there. Reed would be a perfect fir for the TLD team. Hope he signs. Its not the money, did you read the interview with Reed dgizzy, its about a real team he trusts and a bike he likes, and is confident on, not money..
ya know.. now i see what reed is doing. all these tweets with different color bikes, and the Vodaphone deal, he's building hype and drawing in potential sponsors. as much as i don't like him, (or at least listening to him talk) that's very smart. I don't believe he really has anything for Dungey or stewart (if stewart get's off is but and trains) but this should be the best supercoss season since Wardy, Johnson and the gang were all banging bars. i'm super pumped! and we haven't even heard about purcell yet...
I´ve enjoyed watching Reed, but his time is past. If I was TLD I´d offer him a bonus only deal. I bet he wouldn´t be interested. There are just too many young hotshots for the old man to handle, when all he really wants to do is stay home and play with his kid. I hope he sees the light and goes quietly.
Wow, you're only as good as your last race. I guess? Chad is a fighter and in my opinion has just as good of a chance to win as Dungey and Bubba. A1 will be here soon and then we'll see what happens!
What TWK101 said!......but if he didn't line-up,,,well, I don't think it would be the end of Supercross. I actually don't think he'd even be mentioned after the 2nd round. The show must go on!
I'm not the biggest CR fan, and it certainly wouldn't be the end of Supercross without him, but to doubt his ability to podium is insane. And his value to a team such as TLD - a team looking for a breakout SX-class rider - is huge. Then the outdoors, well, he won the opening round last season, right?
Who cares !! and please do not forget about Villopoto . The only rider to beat Dungey on a regular basis besides Bubba @A1

This season will be epic!!! I never thought as a Canadian I would say I was looking forward to January! Deeeeeep field. TLD stepping it up a little more each year is a great business model folks. Do you think TLD will get their hands on a factory quick shifting gearbox?

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned Canard as being a contender. He'll be there too.To win this season, the winner will have to hang it out like never before, and CR doesn't ride like that. He will have few wins regardless of what he's on.
Great! Done! O.K., now on to Pourcel...........TLD should be signing #22 to a "normal" contract (SX & MX) The days of SX only deals are over, I hope. If I were a team manager, I wouldn't be encouraging any talent to think they are good enough to warrant a SX only deal. I've been on both sides of the fence (employer & employee) and the tail wagging the dog NEVER works. Question for somebody who knows, did BT#101 receive any goodies from Honda? Does anyone think it would be prudent for Honda to build another bike / motor / suspension for #22 considering their win record since GOAT's moving on?
Carlsbad..Yes I too dislike the supercross only contracts. After all Motocross was originated out doors & in Europe! I love both but would like to see the riders racing both series. I know now were going to here this isn't Europe & Supercross pulls in more money!
Reedy must have put together a deal that's going to pay him something more than "**** money." There are a few outside the industry sponsors that are pretty interesting and definitely outside the box: Seaspan, the international shipping company; Selle Italia, bicycle saddle maker and sponsor of Tour de France champion Alberto Contador; shoe company Avia; and perhaps a few others. Glad he was able to piece something together; it will be great to see him out there.
Canard should refresh a few guys memory after the first round or two. Dont think he will be a title contender in his first year. But he will be a podium threat I think.
Phreek, yes, I saw Henry on that at the Glen Helen Nat. The lead he pulled on everyone was incredible!!! Really, the past few seasons have come down to just two guys. Reed/Windham, Reed/Stewie, Dungey/Villopoto. Its all we have, but thats boring. In '97, you just didnt know who was going to win on any given weekend. It was actually exciting!!! LOL. CR hasn't burned bridges has he? LOL. Regardless, we need CR and Pourcel in the series. And yes, I think that Canard will be competitive for sure.
haha Sandranger about knowing everything! A thought for those that claim some people "think" they know everything.....not quite.....they KNOW it. This year is going to be sick though with the depth. We've NEVER seen anything like this. Guys with titles in their pockets are going to have a hard time qualifying at times if they screw up just a little. We could see a title contender fail to qualify this year, ruining his hopes. We're going to see races with several really fast guys in the LCQ! I count AT LEAST 16 guys that are serious threats. Dungey, RV, JS, Reed, Windham, Canard, Pourcel, Millsaps, Tedesco, Grant, Short, Metcalfe, Weimer, Stroupe, Brayton, Hahn....add Regal, Sipes, Chisholm, Byrne, Wey....that's already beyond a full gate. Wey finished 7th in 2010! Brayton was 5th!!! I doubt either one sniffs the top ten in SX at season's end in 2011.
Yup, it could be EPIC!! But then again it seems like one or 2 guys always rise to the top. There are a LOT of fast guys but the list of guys that could be in the hunt for the title is about 4-6 at the most IMO, with a lot more that could grab a win if things fall into place. I just hope that all stay healthy for at least 10 rounds please.
I love the silly season... Reed on TLD would be great for the sport... TLD is a real first class team and getting a top rider would put them up another notch... I hope it works out.
There will be a few guys who can pull through the pack. But this year more than ever, the start will be critical for them to get a podium.

TLD's bikes look better than factory Honda's. BD your right about Canard, hes super fast on a 450 and has proven results. Ur gonna see big things from this kid if he stays healthy. Wonder why its so quiet over at the L&M stables? Hope they don't switch to KTM's this late in the year.
This thread pulled everybody out of the woodwork. Alot of CR22 haters out there for sure. I know Chads diamond earrings are so 10 yrs ago and super irritating, but he can still ride and win. 2011 will defiantly be a pivotal year for him and alot of the older guys. What really flicks my bic is watching a quitter. If your getting 5th, work harder the next weekend. Don't pull off the track in the middle of a moto with a bunch of bogus body language and blame the bike and team. Don't care who you are but you should be fired for this type childish behavior.
