Your Collection: 1978 RM125
Monday, October 11, 2010 | 10:16 AM
This week's collection comes from David Maclaskey of Richardson, Texas:
"This is a 1978 RM125 I am building as a tribute to my late brother that passed away three years ago. A bike like this was the last MX bike he had. I painted the helmet for him back then and it was still in his closet at our mom's house. Hope you enjoy."

Way Cool. Your Bro would be proud of you. Solid.
Sweet. Nicely done, not an over the top restoration, clean.
Building? it looks great right now, cool project! I dig the helmet too!
Thanks for the pics! That was the bike that started this whole motorcycle crazy train for me,as thats what my cousin rode in 78' and my dad, grandpa, and uncles took me to wapella,il to watch him race. I will never forget that day or that bike,THANKS BRO!
I was only riding for maybe a month on my new DS125 Suzuk(anyone remember those?) and we are squidding around the old strip mines trying to get the nerve to climb one of the easier highwalls when braaaap....here come this 78 RM125 and up over the steepest part....turns around and come back down. Turns out it was a girl....a grade above me in school and light years above me in riding ability! The first time i was impressed by someones riding ability. I went on to race bikes and then quads. She went on to get married to my wife's uncle many years before I married my wife. I see her now at some family functions and we always end up talking about that day. Pretty cool bike.....bring back lots of memories.
I had soooo much fun on that bike!
Nice!! In the late 70's in the 125cc class, the 77 and 78 RM was the bike to have or the Yamaha YZ 125... Both bikes very close to each other as for power and handling. I loved my 77 RM 125, my father tricked it out with all the Moto-X Fox Factory stuff, RR reed valve, bigger carb, etc. Its still my favorite bike of all time.
good job! only that's a '79. the '78 had a rounder metal tank with solid letters on it. I was too young to ride one but brings back memories of dreaming about it. I was on a jr 50 that year.
CA207 I think you are wrong. 77's had round metal tanks and 78's had plastic 79's had the edge on the fender
Definitely a '78.... '77 had metal gas tank with a steel swing arm, '79 had long travel suspension with the new "GP style" side number plates and very square fenders. Nice Bike!!!!
78 for sure , 77 metal tank, 79 GP style side plates Anyone remember the 76 RM100 that had the down pipe .Knew a guy that had one and I had 77 XR75 and we would trade and ride. Loved that 2 stroke. I I was 13 at that time
you guys are right, my bad.
If this wasn't a tribute bike I'd be asking you to name a price! Awesome machine! It takes more than love to do that for a sibling. Thank you.
