Metcalfe to Suzuki
Sunday, October 3, 2010 | 3:33 PMWord just came in from a source close to the deal that Brett Metcalfe will be joining the Rockstar/Makita Suzuki team to race alongside Ryan Dungey in the 2011 AMA Supercross and Motocross Championships. This makes for a very strong duo, as Metcalfe was also the guy who most consistently gave Dungey fits toward the end of the 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships.

And the new manager is....??? O'Show???
Nope, manager is Mike Webb.
Xcellent choice..No one tryed harder this year....Great team 'mate ' and now on the badass Suzuki it just gets better. If ALL the players show up this year it is ON....
They(Suzuki) are gonna need a strong team mate to help out Dungey in SX. I wonder if its a multi yr deal or just 2011. Seems like they must have their money right bcoz Metcalf had a few pple interested in him.
Congrats Mety! The good news: Arguably the best bike on the gate. The bad news: Post dated paychecks.
Excellent choice. Congratulations Metty. I've been a suzuki fan as long as I've followed motocross. These have been the greatest 8-12 years in history. Bret will be a force to be reconed with outdoors and I personally can wait to see him Indoors. Aside from Windham I don' know who Im pulling for, but Mettys up there. It would be eaiser to make a list of riders whom I could care less who won ie...Stewart, Reed, M.Alessi(Id love to see Jeff on the box.) Thats just my opinion, for what its worth(not much.)
post-dated checks, now that is a good one!
I'm pretty sure Suzuki and all the teams takes out an insurance for bonuses.
I'm sure Dungey got paid. Its all rumors. Metty did good and will continue. Good looking team.
Metty is strong,I under estimated him this year outdoors on the 450.Is Stroupe still with Suzuki ? I sure did miss that dude outdoors ...hope hes well rested, not sure ,think he`s one more eligibility year n the 250`s. And isn`t Grant with Suzuki ,still haven`t heard about Pourcels employer for the 11 season. Already lookin fwd to the 11 outdoor season,in other words motocross. Not , one main moto of about 15 minutes. And seperatism of he 250 talent.
Confirmed!! Congratulations Metty!! Working hard really pays off. Now keep the ball rolling next year. The best wishes from all your fans. GO METTY!!!
One less chair. And the music plays on. (Congrats, Metty!)
Im not sure what im looking forward to. The 450 or 250 class. I think the 250 will more more interesting again. Dont forget Musquin and Roczen will be at A1. Roczen only doing a few races part time. Cairolli will bring his 350 to A1 too. Looks like Roger got the KTM boys going at it in America. Bercy SX coming up and Canard,Musquin Roczen and Cairolli are racing. I think Stewie and L&M will be there
Mike Webb managing, Dungey and Metcalfe on a proven bike-that'll be one strong team indoors and out, can't wait!
Good for Metty - he earned it and is a perfect postion to help RD win another championship. It's going to be tough next year with JS and RV comign back.
Could this be a first... A rider to have ridden for factory backed teams of all the big 5 - KTM, YOT, PC Kawasaki, Gieko Honda and now Suzuki. Well done Metty!!
I remember when Suzuki hired Mike Alessi after a 2nd place national finish on a KTM. MA was hit by what at first I thought was the Suzuki curse. I have been a fan for Suzuki since 1976 when I bought and road my first 2-stroke. I stuck with yellow even through the dry years of no championships. Boy was I relieved when they got a hold of the GOAT, RC.
Go metty, Now you won't run out of gas!!! Would be something if RD does leave now, Cash the check's now Brett just to be safe LOL!!
onya Metty! no one deserves this more after such a hard charging season! AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OI OI OI!
Gongrats Metty.. The motor-home days are over,, now you can fly to the races...
I would think that if Dungey wasn't getting paid they'd need to take care of that before signing a new top teammate. Plus you'd think Metty would be 100% sure that was not the case before signing there. Man, what a team they're going to have in the 450s.
I agree BKR but why would they let The Man go if they have Money for Met?? Hmmm. Either way where ya been BKR?? You missed a lot of fun last week. Go read the 5 min with BT LOL good times.
OH YEAH!!! Metty is my Boy!! Woohoo!! Great news for sure. Been a lot of rumors floating around in the last couple of months that he was going to Suzuki... Now its confirm... Strong team for 2011. "I'm Super Pumped".
Congrats to Metty! Well deserved!
Wow I thaught Regal was gonna get metty's ride. He's proven, fast, in shape, and costs a hell of a lot less dough than metty. metty will take the opportunity and make good of it. He's well off on a 450 and the zook is a lot better bike than the new honda's
BillC, not sure what the DeCoster deal was about. Not sure why Honda let him go in similar fashion way back when. That certainly wasn't about money! I'm not saying Suzuki isn't feeling the pinch, but I find it hard to believe that they can't pay Dungey.
Even if dungey doesn't get paid what is owed to him, He should be thankful he has a job right now. Look at how many great riders will be without a ride, and he is guaranteed one from somebody, after his stellar season. And, he does not seem like the kind of person who really cares so much about money. There is plenty of money to be made in his future, and it will come, eventually. When buster douglas knocked out mike tyson in 1990, he was paid just a few million, but in his very next fight, he became a very wealthy man. Dungey will get what he deserves, he just needs to let it all come to him.
elf846, What more does Rd need to do?? I mean I see what your saying but still sucks for RD right now, On top of that its a hard sport, It could all be over for any one of these guys every time they get on the bike so they need to make it NOW.
Yeah bill, I was thinking the same thing in the back of my mind, actually, but I didn't want to say it on here. I dont want to jinx him, or send any bad karma his way. It does totally suck for him, but I guess that just shows where this sport is at right now, unfortunately. I hope that he and all the rest will stay healthy, and give us a GREAT 2011 season.
From what I have read DeCoster wanted a 3 year deal and Suzuki didn't want to commit for that long. I have yet to see proof that Dungey isn't getting paid. I would guess most of the team money comes from Rockstar and Makita. I highly doubt Dungey isn't being paid.
The word on the street is that Suzuki was frequently late with win and championship bonuses, not Dungey's regular salary. It is just a rumor, but their actions do lend some credibility to it. Maybe they didn't think Dungey would be THAT dominate- oops! ...those are IOU's- $150,000- might want to hang on to that one.
Well there is Dungey then there is uh uh uh uh, no body.
