The Fox Fifty: Tennessee
Thursday, August 5, 2010 | 5:30 PMWith much of the motocross industry gathered in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, for the 29th running of the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch, we’ve decided this would make a perfect week to feature the Volunteer State for our Fox 50 feature.
Tennessee is home to country music, the Grand Ole Opry and Muddy Creek Raceway, which is one of the finest motocross tracks east of the Mississippi. Tennessee is also home to the 2001 125cc AMA National MX Champion, Mike Brown, who resides in Piney Flats. He’ll definitely be in the running for Tennessee’s fastest motocross racer, as well as the following racers:
Nathan Ramsey (1999 Western Regional 125cc SX champion, Pontiac SX winner)
Jon Boruff (Fast local pro)
Ron "Wirehead" Jones (Fast national rider)
Bobby Terrell (Qualified for 125 SX main events in late ‘80s. Has several state championships)
Kenny Kizzar (1986 250 B Stock Loretta Lynn’s champion)
Gene McKay (Super fast mini racer who would beat the likes of Jeff Ward and Brian Myerscough, Got his pro license in 1976 and rode a few 125 Nationals and then vanished)
Mike Johnson (Kawasaki and Suzuki Rider in the ‘70s and ‘80s)
Andy Cate (Yamaha support rider. Won everything in sight in the ‘70s)
Ryan Yearwood (2009 Florida Supermoto Pro Class champion. Converted from motocross to Supermoto when AMA Supermoto came to Nashville)
Doug Harrington (Team Green expert in the ‘80s)
Hans Neel (Fast local pro and KTM support rider)
Jamie McCoy (Fast local pro)
Kevin Blaylock (Fast local pro)
Rick Anderson (Fast National pro)
Bob Collie (Fast national pro)

would like to more Gene Mckay .. where are they now !!
bd, I beleive Matt Walker is from Georgia.
is kevin walker [ the one who beat dr. dubach at the LL ranch on wed] from tenn, or just lives there now ?
Kevin is from Virginia. They've already had the Virginia top riders.
You guys left Mike Duncan off the list, national #47 from the late 80's. He definately should be on the list.....
Boy I remember Kenny Kizzar back then he was fast. he came up to Michigan to race the the silver dome amateur race and ghost rided his bike off of coors mountian while he was leading the race. I think he was pissed at his dad.
Awesome list! I grew up on Muddy Creek. I loved racing there. Mike is definately the fastest to ever come out of the state of Tennessee, but the fiercest and the most exciting would have to be Ron "Wirehead" Jones. If he and his brother Kerry didn't beat you on the track, they would beat you off. Lots of exciting stories about those two.
Yes Mike was fast!, I was there the day he ran off from Pedro (Peralis)?, who was also very fast. At StoneRiver Motocross track in Nashville. and now they have no tracks anywhere near Nashville Tn.
I think Mike is with out a doubt the fastest in TN. Muddy Creek is the best track I have ever ridden. I wonder why they don't race it in the outdoor nationals.
yeah mike duncan is right, he is my cousin and lived with us one winter in fla running a winter series down there, get him on that list!!!
Mike Duncan should really be on the list. There are guys on the list of riders to pick from I know he consistently beat.
