Who was the fastest in the deep Southwick sand? Take a wild guess. Of course it was the 2008 AMA Motocross Champion, James Stewart, who recorded a 2:00.158 on lap two of the first 17-lap moto. The second-fastest lap time in the class came from Honda Red Bull’s Andrew Short, who recorded a 2:03.570 on lap two, edging out GP sand specialist Marc de Reuver, who logged a 2:04.440 on his way to finishing a very impressive third on the #154 Red Bull Honda. Take a look at the top 20 fastest riders from both classes below:
Other riders worth mentioning down the list include privateer Honda rider Jeff Alessi (2:05.925) and MDK KTM’s Matt Goerke, who had an outstanding day going until his KTM 450 SX/F let go in moto two. Local hero John Dowd also deserves some credit, recording the tenth-fastest lap time in his class en route to a sixth overall!
In the Lites class, we see both Ryans on top of the chart, with Brett Metcalfe scoring a lap time not that far off. But check out rookie Blake Wharton from the GEICO Powersports Honda team, who is running lap times just two seconds shy of the fastest Lites riders in the world! That’s not too shabby for only his second pro national.
Other notable times came from rookie Steven Clarke, who made his debut with a top-ten lap time, and Canadian Jeremy Medaglia, who guided his Boost Mobile/Yamaha of Troy YZ250F to the tenth-fastest Lites time.
