Scott Riders Burkhardt and Henry Podium At X GamesTuesday, August 8, 2006 | 8:50 AM
Carson, CA.- Even with a slow pit stop for Mark Burkhardt and some confusion which resulted in Doug Henry having to pit twice, both riders were able to get on the podium in the Supermoto Race at X Games Twelve. Late in the race, Burkhardt made an impressive push which brought him to Jeff Ward’s back wheel on the final lap. Trying to capitalize on his superior speed on the pavement, Burkhardt showed Ward a front wheel in one of the last turns of the pavement section. Ward closed the door on Burkhardt’s pass attempt and finished just a bike length ahead of him at the checkered flag.
Henry, severely handicapped by having to pit twice, put on a charge in the second half of the race but was too far back to close the gap. Burkhardt took the silver metal and Henry got the bronze.
