It just goes to show you what you've gotta do for mainstream press
these days. Ricky Carmichael beat the fastest riders in the world at
Daytona a couple of weeks ago, but it was Travis Pastrana and his
heat-race backflip attempt that got the coverage. In this case, ESPN The Magazine
awarded Pastrana with this remarkable two-page spread photo (March 27 issue), shot by
photographer extraordinaire Paul Buckley, and all RC got was a
name-drop. Of course, crash photos always sell, and when the photo is this good, it sells to ESPN. If they didn't run it, we definitely would have.
