48 Tommy Hahn

Tommy Hahn has been one of the riders consistently flying under the radar throughout his career. The young rider out of Kansas joined the pro circuit in 2004. In his first Supercross race ever, he earned third overall at the highly acclaimed U.S. Open. He also raced two select outdoor national rounds with the Factory Connection Honda Team. At Steel City and Glen Helen, he scored top-10 individual moto scores, putting him on the map as a rookie contender for the 2005 season.

In 2005, he stayed with Factory Connection where he would make an attempt at the West Coast Lites Supercross title. He did not win, but he did finish a consistent tenth overall in the final season standings. The season included a hard-fought fourth place in Anaheim, California. The outdoor nationals were again fairly good for Hahn. He didn’t set the world on fire, but collected two top-six finishes at sandy Southwick and high-altitude Lakewood, Colorado.

The 2006 season saw Hahn return to the Factory Connection team. For Supercross, he switched coasts and rode to a career-best fourth overall in the final points tally. He achieved a second-place finish in Houston and collected three top fives as well. At the season-ending East/West Shootout in Las Vegas, Hahn rode to third overall among the best riders from both coasts. In the Motocross Lites Series, Hahn raced a limited schedule, but in the races he did participate in, he garnered a best finish of sixth overall at California’s Glen Helen.

In 2007, Hahn made the jump from the Factory Connection squad to American Honda when all of Team Honda’s riders were hurt and they didn’t want to go into Anaheim without anyone running their colors. Unfortunately, he was hurt before the opener, too, and ended up having to switch coasts and race the Lites East. His season, although not his best, was not bad. He earned two podiums in the Supercross Lites East Coast series, one of which was at the grueling Daytona Supercross. For the outdoors, Hahn geared up and rode to an eighth overall in the points standings, with five top-ten rides. Although good, the season was not good enough to retain his factory status, and he was dropped from Honda at the end of the year.

For 2008, Hahn joined the newly formed Motosport Xtreme Kawasaki squad managed by Bill Keefe. Looking rejuvenated, Hahn had one of his best Supercross seasons to date. He went to battle in the West Coast Lites Series where he earned two second-place finishes and four top tens on the way to fifth overall. A trip back under a factory awning is definitely still a possibility for the young rider. John Leonard
