Sean Hamblin’s professional career debuted north of the border in Canada where he landed himself the 2000 125cc National Championship aboard a Blackfoot Honda. The following summer, he returned to Canada piloting a Kawasaki KX125. Sean finally got his chance to shine on factory equipment when a spot opened up on the SoBe Suzuki team in 2002. He turned a lot of heads when he landed on the podium in Binghamton and secured eighth place overall in the 250 class. Having earned more than just a temporary spot, Sean remained with SoBe in 2003 and finished eleventh in the West Coast Lites Supercross Series, with a fourth in Phoenix as his best finish.
Sean also raced select 250cc Supercross races while the West Coast Lites were on a break and finished impressively in twelfth overall. The ’03 outdoor series looked promising for the Suzuki rider until an injury at round four left him sidelined for the remainder of the year. Sean made a full recovery by the start of the 2004 Supercross season where he ended up eighth in the premier class. He kept his Suzuki up front throughout the ’04 AMA National Motocross Series and rounded out the season in tenth. Sean took on the series on a privateer Kawasaki KX250 two-stroke in 2005 and struggled all year, ending up with a 22nd and a 24th in each premier championship. For the 2006 Supercross season, Sean jumped back down to the Lites class and charged his Bill’s Pipes/Rockstar Suzuki to a thirteenth-place ranking. He returned to the 250 class for the Nationals, but the team ran out of cash during the series and his bike ran out of parts.
In 2007, Sean signed on with the Suzuki Swift Motocross team to do MX2 racing in Europe, and then Sean returned to AMA racing in the spring of 2008 where he started out on a Tuf Powersports YZ450F. After the first few rounds of the AMA Motocross Championship, Sean shined among the factory riders and was given a spot under the Factory Yamaha tent, where he is set to race the remainder of the series.
